Mary and most of the other pack members stood, sat, and lay on her crowded front porch. I let out a sigh of relief that they were in their human forms. I hated when Lucas was nervous, because it made me feel like I had to mark him as mine again, which annoyed me.
A howl of welcome came from the pack when I stepped out of the car. I howled back and ran onto the porch. I knew Lucas was rolling his eyes, but I didn't care. I jumped up the short stairs and landed in the middle of the group. Hugs, nuzzles, snuggles, and licks greeted me and they surrounded me. Every now and then the group would turn me in a direction where I would catch a glimpse of Lucas's dismay, but I refused to feel guilty. He knew what I was before we got married. I had given up a lot for him. Lucas asked me again and again why I didn't call the pack for help, but any time I did he'd get angry or frustrated with them.
Once I was re-acquainted with the pack Lucas and I were invited inside. I took his hand and drug him behind me afraid that he'd leave if I didn't. Mary had prepared finger foods and offered us all wine. I took a glass gratefully, but Lucas declined.
“Do you really think it's appropriate to be drinking right now?” He asked crossing his arms.
“Oh, leave her alone!” Joseph, one of my pack mates said. “Alcohol doesn't affect us the way it does you humans!”
Lucas rolled his eyes. “You think you'd be more worried about the pair of murderers on the loose than your bellies or your gullets!”
“One should never hunt on an empty stomach.” Mary grinned settling the argument.
Lucas crossed his arms and refused to look at me. I tried to ignore his anger and focus on what the others were saying.
“Mary, did you say we were going hunting?” I asked.
“Of course we're going hunting!” Mary laughed.
“We're going to show those bears what they get when they mess with a wolf!” Joseph howled.
Some of the others joined in and I couldn't help myself. It felt so nice to be around my friends again.
After we finished eating Mary broke us up into three smaller groups leaving out Lucas and the two other humans in the room.
“I'm going with, Lyka!” Lucas protested.
“No, you're not.” Mary said shaking her head. “You can't shift. You're not a wolf.”
“That doesn't matter!” Lucas retorted.
“Lucas, I don't want you to get hurt!” I said tugging at his trying to get him to sit down.
“And you assume I'm going to get hurt?” He snapped.
“Lucas, don't do this right now, please.” I said trying not to let my anger show in my words.
“If I'm not going, Lyka's not going!” He said.
“Fuck you!” I snapped. “I'm going on the hunt! This started because of me!”
Most of the time when we were alone the species problem didn't get in the way, but throw in other shifters or humans and our relationship hit stormy waters.
I stormed out of Mary's house and into the backyard. A few of my pack mates followed on my heels trying to offer comfort. I stripped my clothes off and allowed my body to shift into my wolf for the first time in months. Once my transformation was complete I let out a howl of sorrow and rage.
My pack mates joined in the howl and we set off through the forest. The human news was the only source of information we had to go on, and it said that the bears were last seen heading into the forest off of the highway. We weren't sure where they would be, but the forest the news woman spoke of was our forest. The bears were in our territory now.
We moved silently through the forests keeping a sharp eye out for anything unusual. My ears were alert and my wet canine nose sniffed the air seeking out anything that smelled unfamiliar. We walked over an hour and found nothing. Some of the younger wolves were getting restless, but Joseph, I, and the other adults were determined to find the bears. In the distance we heard a howl of alarm.
My body dashed instinctively towards the howl. It was Mary's voice that sang through the evening sky. The group she led must have seen something or found the bears. Howls sounded this way and that as she led us and the other group toward her. My paws ran swiftly over the forest floor. Anticipation of the hunt pumped through my veins and my heart pounded in my wolfy chest.
As we approached the battle I could smell that the bears were in their human forms. Their stench filled my nostrils and made me want to gag. The group scattered as several large men sprang down upon us from the canopy. Growls and snarls surrounded me as one of the attackers charged me with a knife.
I managed to avoid his blade and land a shallow bite on his right thigh. He growled in pain, but swung his dagger again. Joseph pounced him from behind, but the brute easily knocked him aside. As the battle went on the pack became confused and scattered. We were used to fighting animals, but these bears staying in their human form was something we hadn't expected. I was still fighting the brute when another joined.
I howled for help my eyes searching for one of my pack mates, but I was alone. The man had successfully separated me from my fellows, like a wounded deer for hunting. My heart pounded in fear as my flight instinct took over. I ran as quickly as my four canine legs would take me, but my instincts had led me into a trap. I tripped over a branch and a net sprang up around me lurching me into the air. I yelped in surprise and growled as the men attempted to approach me.
I snarled through the netting and tried to swipe at them, but it was futile. Another man joined them and prodded me hard in the ribs. I recognized him from the robbery, but couldn't do more than bitch at him. I was trapped and alone. The bear men had outsmarted me! I heard someone approaching from behind, but was unable to turn my head to see who it was. My nose told me it was another bear. A loud sound echoed around my skull blurring my vision. I tried to force my eyes to stay open, but the world around me faded away into darkness.
I woke sometime after dark. The bear men sat around a fire laughing. While I slept I shifted back to my human form. I winced as I tried to lift my head to look around. The world blurred and I decided that it might be best to just lay still for a while. I was in no condition to try to escape, so I resigned myself to be still and listen.
“By morning the bitch will be signing over the territory to us!” One of the men from the store laughed.
“If she wants to see her pack mate again!” Another man laughed.
I had to bite my tongue to keep from growling.
“If Mary doesn't sign the land over, we'll just take her with us and try back this winter. If they suck at fighting this much during the summer, these so-called-wolves will be sittin' ducks this winter.” The first man laughed.
I heard a quiet noise in the distance, but couldn't smell anything. I wondered if it was just the wind or if the blew the brute delivered to my skull had knocked out my sense of smell as well. I took a deep breath trying not to draw attention to myself. Maybe if the bears thought I was still out cold they would leave me alone for a while longer.
The noise sounded again, closer this time. The bears fell quiet and I could tell they were straining their ears to listen for movement. When nothing came of it they resumed their conversation. This happened several more times before one of the larger men went to look for the source of the noise. I closed my eyes again willing my head to stop pounding.
For a few moments the world was quiet and I could hear my pulse pounding away in my ears. The silence startled me and my eyes sprang open just in time to see the battle begin. I spotted Mary and Joseph, as well as a few of my other pack mates, but wolves I had never seen before had also joined the fight. In the distance I heard the screech of an angry cat. I tried to sit up, but my bounds prevented me from moving. It was Sanchez! It had to be! I knew his angry voice anywhere! The bears were doomed! A grin spread across my face.
Someone was close behind me. My temples were pounding, but I forced myself to look over my shoulder. It was Lucas! I cried out in relief only to regret it! Pain shook through my body and I thought I was going to pass out again.r />
“Shh..” He hissed as he cut me free of my bounds.
“Lucas..” I whispered.
My husband picked me up and navigated his way through the battle. I squeezed my eyes shut and buried my face in his chest, fearing at any moment one of the bear men would attack and I'd be dropped to the ground. Somewhere along our journey I must have fallen unconscious again, because I woke sometime after sunrise on Mary's sofa. Lucas sat on the floor in front of me, head leaning on my breast. His soft snores told me that he was indeed asleep. I didn't want to wake him, but I had to find out what had happened.
“Lucas.” I whispered softly, stroking his hair.
His eyes opened sleepily, but he grinned at me. His lips brushed against mine, but the throbbing in my temples forced me to pull away.
“What happened? How did you guys find me? Did we beat the bear men?” I asked.
“Easily enough. The bears actually told Mary where they were holding you. They wanted her to exchange you for the land, because they think there's a diamond mine somewhere in the forest.” Lucas explained.
“And of course we beat the bears.” Sanchez said startling me. “The council is going to eat their bitch asses for dinner.”
“Maybe not, but they'll have to pay for their crimes.” Mary interrupted. “The Council of Shifters intervened.”
“Only after I called them, dog breath.” Sanchez said rolling his eyes.
Mary growled and others tensed ready to fight.
“Guys, I already feel like I'm going to vomit can you please not fight right now!” I whined from the sofa.
“Anything for you.” Sanchez said as left through the front door.
The next day I was feeling much better, but wasn't quiet ready to go back to the city yet. I knew that Lucas was ready to get back to his urban jungle, but I wanted some time in my forest. I wanted to breathe the fresh air and run through the trees. Lucas felt obliged to tag along with me fearing my head injury was making me act irrational.
I remained in human form and kept my pace slow and steady so that Lucas could keep up. I wanted him to see the inside of my world and to feel like it was his home as well as mine. He was my mate and I loved him. There wasn't another I could imagine sharing the rest of my life with. We still hadn't talked about the argument we had about the hunt, but I was afraid to bring it up. I didn't think I could stomach another 'I told you so' comment.
“Look about the other day..” Lucas said then stopped.
“I don't want to talk about it.” I said quickening my steps.
“I think we need to.” He said following on my heels.
I stopped and took a deep breath. My heart pounded hard against my chest as I waited for Lucas's blow up and lecture.
“I'm sorry, okay.” Lucas said taking my hand. “I worry about you, a lot. Even in the city I worry about you. You always seem to attract trouble. I know you don't go looking for it, but you always find it. Then there's the pack. Every time you get around them you act different. I know you don't think you do, but you do. I don't want to lose you to them. You seem so happy around them, but I just don't want to lose you.”
I looked up into my mate's eyes and kissed him softly.
“You're not going to lose me, Lucas. You're my mate. I know I act differently around the pack, but it's not like I can go out in the city and be myself. When I'm alone with you I'm different too. It's the way people are. I'm not one-dimensional. I need you and I need the pack. You're always asking why I never call them for help. Well, the answer is because I know they make you uncomfortable.” I told him.
“I've never said that.” Lucas said crossing his arms.
“You don't have to. The look on your face, your body language, even your smell tells me that. Words are nice, but sometimes actions and scents speaking like a billion times louder than the words you don't say.” I said touching his face gently.
“I just don't feel welcome.” Lucas sighed.
“That's nonsense. They've welcomed you, just as they would any other member’s mate. You just have to get to know them, and well maybe get to know the wolfy side of me a little better too.” I smiled.
“I'd like that.” Lucas said leaning down and brushing his lips against mine.
I deepened the kiss and plunged my tongue into his mouth. His lips tasted of coffee and cinnamon. Lucas's hands groped my ass and I moaned into the kiss. His hands traveled over my ass and back. I ground my hips into his and felt his dick twitch. I smiled into the kiss and undid his jeans, freeing his half hard dick.
I gave it a firm squeeze causing Lucas to moan. My wet pussy made me rub my legs together in anticipation. I deepened the kiss and pulled Lucas down to the forest floor. As I nuzzled into his neck I felt his hand slip under my shirt.
I wiggled out of my jeans and got on all fours. I wanted him to take me as a wolf takes their mate. Pushing my hips into the air I wiggled my ass at him. I heard Lucas chuckle. A faint blush warmed my cheeks. Maybe I was being too wolfy for him.
My doubts were washed away when I felt the head of Lucas's now fully erect manhood pressing against my pussy. He rubbed it's head between my lips and over my swollen clit before slipping it inside of my body. I howled softly as his hardness filled me to the brim.
Lucas's hands gripped my hips as he began to thrust. My fingers dug into the forest floor gripping the grass as bolts of pleasure shot throughout my body. His body hit into mine again and again pushing his erection deeper into my sopping wet pussy. I moaned as my eyes rolled back into my head.
Surrounded by nature made every sensation feel more raw as if our lovemaking was touching something primal deep inside my soul. I let out a loud joyous howl as my climax washed over me making my body quiver. Lucas released his seed into my pussy and let out a howl. It was a weak, wimpy, human howl, but it let me know that my mate was trying to accept the wolfy side of me.

Stay Close My Angel
by
Molly Ellis
ANDREA was living the life that most people dreamed of. She had a wealthy father that gave her a trust fund that was larger than the entire budget to run a state. Andrea shared a huge mansion with her husband of eleven years and although they lived quite comfortably, she felt alone. The end to another dull day was drawing near. Andrea came out of the shower and fastened her neat frame into the thick rose colored robe that her husband had bought her for Valentine’s Day about three years ago. She loved that robe and it was fast approaching the time to eventually be discarded but Andrea was too sentimental to let it go that easily.
She hadn’t been seeing much of her husband as of late and the few times that she did, very little words were exchanged. Andrea and Michael were not exactly estranged, rather they were strained. The tension in the rope of their love was so tight that the slightest thing could break it. Andrea wasn’t in the mood for another argument but she could not ignore the lingering scent of another female on his clothing as he walked through the door.
Andrea had grown to distrust Michael so much that sometimes she felt as though she was sharing a house with a complete stranger. Things were not always this bad and Andrea always kept the memory of how he cared for her when she was sick alive in her mind. It was that memory and the fact that she still sometimes needed him around that made her more patient with him than she needed to. She did not waste any time approaching him as he made his way into the bedroom.
She demanded that he tell her who the scent belonged to because the last time she checked, his favorite cologne was Esquire and not CHANEL No.5. Her demand was the catalyst to another epic fight that forced her to make a decision about their relationship once and for all.
