Brody liked to think that kismet brought them together in basic training. Kismet had also allowed them to be stationed at the same locations and in the same units since basic training. Perhaps fate would play a role in their lives again and make sure they got into the same unit. Brody silently vowed to do all he could to give kismet a hand.

Brody sighed. “Glad you have a shot at this. Only wish we were going to this recruit selection testing together.”

“Back at ya, Brody,” Dan said seriously. Seeing the light dim in Brody’s eyes and wanting to bring it back, Dan joked, “If you get any down time down under, ya gotta check out the kickboxing kangaroos. Send me pictures.”

“Sure, buddy anything for you.” They both laughed and sauntered into the barracks to finish packing Brody’s gear.

Dan bolted upright from his bunk and came to attention with Brody as a lieutenant entered their barracks. Lieutenant Moss recognized Broderick instantly. “At ease men.” Directing his gaze to Hunter, he asked, “All packed?”

“Yes, sir.” Brody glanced at the gear at the foot of his bed.

Moss turned his gaze to Broderick. “Broderick, your application has been approved, and you are going to recruit selection testing. You have thirty minutes to pack your gear. Report to the tarmac in thirty-five minutes.”

Dan’s mouth dropped open dumbfounded as Brody exuberantly yelled and began tearing into Dan’s locker tossing items he needed onto the bunk.
