There was a moment of silence while everyone took in her words before she spoke again.
“I will take a couple of questions now, if you have any.”
The journalists went immediately mad, shouting, waving their hands.
“Princess!”
“Ma’am!”
“Alexandra!”
Alexandra pointed confidently at a young woman who introduced herself.
“Ruby Costello, BBC. Ma’am, can you tell us if you still plan to have children and if so, how?”
“Thank you Ruby, yes, all being well, I do still plan to have children. I haven’t made any definitive decisions yet on how, but I’m sure you know as well as I do that there are many options out there these days.”
Alexandra pointed to another journalist with his hand up.
“Peter Johnson, The Daily Mail.”
Alexandra sighed inwardly knowing his question could be anything. The newspaper he wrote for was full of unsubstantiated gossip.
“Go ahead, Peter.”
“Ma’am can you confirm the rumours that you have been sleeping with your bodyguard?”
Alexandra smiled wryly, wondering how it had got out, but she had discussed the potential of this question at length with her advisors and with Erin herself. Once Erin’s name got out there, her privacy and that of her family would be a thing of the past.
The journalists all turned their heads in surprise at the question. None of them expected any answer other than denial.
“I can confirm that my girlfriend is my ex bodyguard Sergeant Erin Kennedy and I love her very much. For obvious reasons, she is no longer working as part of my protection team. We will be appearing together at some point, very soon, to enable you all to get some photographs, but meanwhile if you could give our home, the castle, some privacy, I would very much appreciate it. Erin has given me so much that I will be eternally grateful for. Mostly she has given me the ability to be authentically myself, Alexandra. In encouraging me to come out, she has given me a freedom that I never thought I could have.”
The journalists gasped and lapped it up.
Erin smiled, watching her girlfriend on television, addressing the world about their relationship. Alex was confident and eloquent. Erin saw the burden fall, piece by piece, from her shoulders with every word that she said. Alex was incredible and the way the light lit up her lovely face filled Erin with warmth. She sat happily in their amazing home in the castle with their tired Great Dane puppy, Audrey, lying across her lap.
Alex, I love you too.

Hey everyone, I just want to thank you so much for reading my book. I would love for you to pop on Amazon and review it if you enjoyed it. As an indie author, reviews really do make a difference and get my books noticed and would be hugely appreciated.
I wrote Her Royal Bodyguard following my own experience as a bodyguard (Close Protection Operative) to a member of a Royal Family. (It wasn’t the British Royal Family.) Being a Bodyguard isn’t as glamorous as you might think. It is a lonely, isolating profession. You give up your own life to live in the client’s world as their shadow. Working so closely for someone over time, with their safety your absolute priority, you develop a certain intimacy with them. Although I didn’t have an affair with my Princess (Sorry to disappoint!), I can see how easily it could happen.
