She concluded her meeting. “Thank you for stopping by. Just give me a call to let me know when to expect the first shipment of makeup.”

Cy moved out of the way for the distributor rep to leave. Then he focused that million dollar smile on her. “Working hard, as usual?”

“It’s been a long but productive day. I also managed to sell out of all but one of my new makeup palettes.”

“I’d try it, but it’s not my color.” He entered the conference room and leaned down to kiss her. Dahlia tilted her head up and back as his kiss went from gentle to deep. “I missed you.”

  “You saw me at lunch.”

  “That was hours ago.”

“More like four. Wow, you’ve really got the newlywed bug, haven’t you?”

  “And you don’t?”

She grabbed his shirt collar and gave it a little tug, pulling him down so that his face was mere inches from hers again. She felt the soft heat of his breath on her mouth. “You can ask me again when I get off work.”

“I’d like a clue now so I can know what I’m in for.”

Dahlia closed the space and pressed a kiss on his mouth.

  “Knock, knock.”

She broke away, looked around Cy’s shoulder, and saw Nelle, her last appointment of the day. Her former intern was there to get her makeup done for graduation photos. She and Brandon were going to walk across the stage and get their degrees that evening.

“Hope I’m not interrupting.” Nelle looked from her to Cy with a sage, all-knowing smile.

“Not at all. I was just telling my husband why he needed to leave and let me finish working.”

Nelle cast a look of doubt at the two of them. “It didn’t look like you were being persuasive, but it’s none of my business. Hey, Cy. Catch any bad guys today?”

“Business has been a little slow for me this week. I like it. I could use a rest.”

Dahlia looked at him. “You, rest? Yeah, right.” She turned to Nelle. “So what colors did you decide on for your pictures?”

“Actually, I want the red lipstick you’re both wearing. What is it, Five Alarm?”

“That would be the one.” Dahlia stifled a giggle as Cy tried to nonchalantly wipe away the evidence of her kiss. She handed him a makeup remover towelette. “It’s very popular.”

  “I can see.”

Cy managed to get all the lipstick off his mouth. “You might want to create a no-lipstick look for your next line.”

“Where’s the fun in that?” She puckered up and blew him a kiss. “See you soon. Love you.”

“Love you, too.” He opened the door. “I’ll be at Jumpy Java.”

“Yes. Show people at that coffee shop how great my lipstick looks.”

He froze, hand on the door. “I didn’t get it all off?”

“I’m kidding. It’s gone.” Dahlia loved teasing him. Their humor and silly talk was what made their love work. She looked forward to the end of the day when she could see him at home. She hoped there were many, many more of these days for years to come.
