Ruined Between the Sheets: An Anthology of Dystopian Stories that Get to the Point Page 75

“I’ll stay,” I whispered. A large smile broke across my face at the shock in his eyes. “You’ve ruined me, Hades. For all others. My heart and soul belongs to you.”

As soon as the words left my mouth, Hades surged into me as he took my mouth once again. My eyes shuttered close as I wrapped my arms around his broad shoulders, drawing him into me as he stroked me lazily, inside and out. Our lovemaking was unhurried and absolutely perfect. We stayed wrapped in each other for hours, or maybe just minutes. When we came together, we released into each other with a soft sigh. Hades owned me, mind, body, and soul.

  Chapter Five

On the day my mother came to collect me, Hades and I were in the throne room tending to the denizens of the city. He was absolutely serious that night when he told me he wanted me to rule by his side. I even heard whispers of marriage from the staff when they thought I wasn’t paying attention. Hades never mentioned it, but when we returned from his playroom that night, I found all my things from the first-floor bedroom sitting in his closet instead. Neither of us have slept alone since that night.

Hades was on his throne, as usual, in his demonic form, with me spread sideways across his lap. He said it was to show a united front, but I’m pretty sure it was to keep the raging hard-on tucked out of site. We were listening to a woman weep about how she ended up in Hell when there was a commotion at the doors.

My mother and her retinue of guards marched in, each with a look of pure aggravation on their faces. As if they couldn’t believe they had to step foot in the castle of the depraved and sinful. Hades was lazily petting my hair as they stopped at the foot of the dais.

“Persephone,” my mother shrieked. “What in all the realms do you think you’re doing?”

“I’m relaxing in the arms of my lover, Mother,” I quipped. “Does it bother you?”

  “Yes,” she all but growled.

“Hmm, well, the door is back the way you came. I wish I could say it’s been nice to see you, but frankly, I’d be lying.”

Mother gasped. “Persephone! What has come over you? You do not speak to your mother that way.”

What had come over me indeed.

Before Hades entered my life, I never would’ve dreamed that I could actually speak to my mother in such a way. Dream about doing it, absolutely. Multiple times, several times a day if you want to get technical. But to actually do it? I wouldn’t have dared.

But I knew the truth now. All of my life, I allowed my mother to have complete control over everything I did, knowing the consequences would be dire for me if I didn’t. But Hades had freed me. He knew exactly who I was and loved every dirty, twisted facet of me. My mother couldn’t hurt me anymore. I wouldn’t allow her to.

“You have no power here, Mother,” I responded, laying my head against Hades’ chest. “Leave while you still have your dignity intact. I won’t be coming with you.”

“You arrogant brat,” she screeched, scaring some of the souls who waited in line and aggravating others. “You are my child and you will obey me!”

  “No,” I said simply.

With her teeth grinding hard, she turned her hate-filled eyes on my lover.

“Hades,” she ground out. “What have you done?”

“I’ve given her a choice, Demeter,” he responded lazily, still stroking my hair. “Which is more than what you’ve ever done for her.”

  “I gave her life!”

“One hundred and seventy-eight years ago!” My calm demeanor broke, causing me to nearly scream the words towards the end. “And while I’ll forever love you for that, I think it’s time for you to go.”

  “You can’t be serious.”

“More than I’ve ever been in my entire life.”

“You heard her,” Hades spoke up. “Remove yourselves or my guards will do it for you.”

A blank expression came over my mother’s face seconds before fury raged in her bottle green eyes.

“Guards,” I intoned, not giving her a moment to act on what went through her mind.

The guards in the throne room circled around my mother and her entourage, forcing them back towards the doors while my mother hurled obscenities behind her. Each evil word she threw at us as she was forcibly removed from the castle was counted by whispered words of love and devotion by Hades. He was proud of me for standing up to my mother, said I was just the queen his kingdom needed and he was grateful to finally have me by his side. He told me we’d do great things together for the denizens of the Underworld, and I believed him. Because he was right. I was finally my own woman, but I had a strong man at my side who would help me achieve anything. And this was only the beginning.
