“Damn,” Cayson breathed, disapproval seeping from him when he caught sight of his brother. “Hunter . . . no.”
I finally looked to the side, to the people standing a few shops down. My stomach dipping and chest wrenching for Hunter when I realized who it was.
“Told you,” Hunter said as Cayson continued trying to stop him. “I told you, I wouldn’t waste a goddamn second.”
“She’s got a kid, man.”
“She’s fucking here,” Hunter argued, sounding in a way I hadn’t heard from him in so, so long.
Like he would tear apart the world to get to the woman a block away.
Frozen. Staring in anguish the way Hunter had been. Diamond on her left hand that was visible from here. Clutching the hand of a little girl.
