“Where is she?” “Does she whom?”
“Come on, you idiot. I saw on the news saying that the cap- sules would charge to recover the country’s economy.”
“What? Are you police or something? What are my charges and where is my judgment? How many years will my sentence?”
“Do not be funny. If you do not tell me where she is, I will be your judge and executioner, because you are sentenced to death for complicity in making the world disappear.”
“What do you win with that? How many cops like you are out there? Two? Three? Have you found this site? You’d better put the gun down and understand that there is no safer place. We have energy for ten years, and food until the end of the plague.”
“For the last time, where is Rachel Hayes?”
“Simple. Everywhere. Each zombie on this planet is her.”
Frank felt the need to pull the trigger right there, but at that moment heard a message from the pilot saying he had found a bespectacled girl ensuring that Rachel was in a cold room camera or something.
“Above! Take me to that room.”
As Daylet said, there was Rachel, imagining that things would work out forever. I could not believe what he had before his eyes.
Someone had broken through a jungle to hunt zombies. Someone had taken the trouble to find her to judge her by her actions. So- meone found her in the least likely, at the end of a road victory smelling place. No one said a word. It seemed that the time had frozen in Iceberg, and precisely right on the room cold chambers. The silence was broken with a whimper when the pilot pushed Daylet. all together he was now. Frank ordered the three were placed on his knees with his arms behind his head. Rachel’s eyes burned with rage when he saw the jarring piece of black bangs placed near it.
“It was you, right?” She criticized foam in saliva.”
The girl was silent. The scene looks bad. Imagine the sound of the gun and the body of Rachel shot by swarthy man. Colin then fall, and finally, a penetrating bullet tear life. It could not be otherwise. A set of sensations caused a ringing in the ears, unable to know if Rachel was blaspheming.
Both the pilot and Frank lived convinced that lightly wrest answers would not be easy. Tried, nothing more and nothing less, with the woman who poisoned the world. Frank had faced the worst scum; people with plans impossible to describe. He was a victim of kidnapping and torture. His life was in danger many times death made her ally. But deep down, a demon disturbed him deep, where it is more intense. And I felt fear. I was afraid of Rachel Hayes.
The three were locked in a room cleaning. None dared to utter a word. It was possible that, after coming so far, come to fall at the finish line. Rachel’s head was bombarded by ideas that aimed solely out of the way those two men who had appeared from nowhere. Colin every second was slipping a handful of hope, like the sand of an antique clock escapes. And poor Daylet looked suffocated at the hands of Rachel or executed by the dark man. At the end of the day, she also found at the same site and that made her accomplice. Suddenly, Frank opened the door and raised his index finger.
“You. Walk.”
Colin was taken aback not believing him out to him first. With cowardly eyes looked at Rachel, warning that the blonde woman Frank was the one who caused the apocalypse. But there was no- thing to do, the man’s finger pointing him as an arrow between the eyebrows, and that caused a fear attack that is embedded in the eyes in tears. Tremors suffering in his chest were as strong as if a fish out of water were fluttering on the walls of his heart.
The door closed again, and Rachel stared at Daylet in a way so sturdy that the girl thought the glass would break his glasses.
“Isn’t nothing happening to you?”
“Nothing. I do not know where they came from those two guys. Brown spotted me and all I did was ask for you. The hatred that crackled in his eyes was so hot that apparently did not you run away from this or with a blood debt.”
“Do not be dramatic! We have around us a dozen chemicals.
We can invent something to free us from these intruders.” “Admit it, Rachel, is the end.”
“What you say, idiot? If for you it is the end, for me it never will be. And in the unlikely event of having come this far, you sink with me. Your hands took part in the production of capsules Z.”
“Under constant threats!” She shouted the girl pulling one of his cigarettes with trembling hands.
The burner fire drew her a yellow mask on his face disappeared
almost immediately.
“Apology,” whispered with a macabre idea to just fabricate, “give me one, please?
The girl froze. It was the first time he heard apologizing to the pretty witch. Amid the confusion, he reached out with a cigarette and lighter. Then, Rachel dropped the cigarette and intact pieces made with goodbye foot. Rack his right grabbed wide jar with a yellow liquid inside. Intentionally, he twirled it until the label was facing the girl. The message was clear. In the bottom of the paper were the words of warning and a skull engulfed in flames.
“Tell a brief history? It was once a clean room that became to the hell. How about? She said threatening it off and on the lighter near the bottle with flammable liquid.
“I thought we had a deal” said Daylet clarify it to avoid dying charred.
“You’re smart when it suits you,” said Rachel fanning the smoke in front of his face.
In that, the door opened again, and this time, the dark came to take by force Rachel. She resisted avoiding to be touched. The pilot went ahead to show the interrogation room while Frank was less than a meter away. They came to a place bigger than the clean room tad. In the center was only a table and chair. It provided the only light the lamp batteries participating from a corner.
“Where’s Colin? What have you done with him?”
Frank turned and motioned to the pilot to shut the door. The man agreed and stayed close to the inside. the duel would not miss it for the world, but he also feared him that woman.
“What we did to him is not half of what we do with you.”
“I thought you were something like law enforcement officers.”
“Forgive me my lack of education not to introduce before. He’s navy pilot. I’m, say, a select portion of the confidants of Pre- sident of the United States. You know he died? You know your family, right now, you can be in a trance? I will not belabor you. Give me the cure!”
“And then what? Would I go through my brains?” “Give me the cure and negotiate your freedom.” “There’s no cure.”
“Don’t passes list. I said I will not extend to you. Give me the cure and move to the next level.”
“There is no cure and no more levels. The end of humanity
came for my sake, and now the planet is dominated by zombies.”
“What are you going to do? Do you think you’ll get away
through that door and you’ll stick a flag with your name?” “In my world there are no flags.”
Frank turned to look at the pilot and returned abruptly giving such a strong blow on the table the whole room shook with fear.
“Why the hell did you do? Why?” He shouted as if possessed.
“I did was to eradicate the problem. The human, polluted air, contaminated the soil. We are the cause of water, radioactive, electromagnetic, thermal pollution. We pollute with garbage and trash all the time. Human intervention has only served to alter the ecosystem that nature, barely, seeks to replenish. The human being is disgusting,” replied loudly.
“The zombies are repulsive!”
“Do not! Zombies are a reflection of our souls. Its disgusting
aspect is what we are inside.”
“What you tell me about the good things? Have you ever wept with emotion? Do not you like art? Have not you read a book that will provoke a catharsis for life? You don’t like music? Do you have any idea what your deceit incited saying the virus was in the air and, therefore, the Z capsule was salvation? I think even a joke that the drug had pr
inted the letter that begins the word zombie. You did not give time to recover our history. Whole cities have di- sappeared under the flames. Even if we wanted, we could not save the trace of our passage on Earth. You talked about pollution, and what genetics? Where is the genetic contamination?”
“Exists. It was with the genetic pollution eliminated the others.
We need the world to live, the planet does not need us.” “We are the pinnacle of evolution! We use right!”
“Precisely for being the last should respect the position of those who dwell before us. Why not use reason to prevent mer- cury contaminated fish die and birds Inked oil? Man kills for ple- asure, zombie’s necessity; and with such good fortune that are not interested in anything else on their menu that human flesh.”
Frank expression was ebbing before exposing Rachel. The woman defended all of existence as if it had been calved from the womb of the Earth. He came to think, at one point of interroga- tion, she was right. There was silence, and without asking around, left the room. He looked at the pilot and noticed that the man was as confused as him.
“You see her eyes when I asked for the cure?”
“Not much. It’s a little dark in there, and I have your skills.” “Well I never gripped my eyes with both nerve after a question
like that.”
“Then, is there a cure or not?”
“No friend. That woman is telling the truth. There is no cure,” let out a huge sigh.
“You think the bespectacled girl knows something?”
“The three came together, but do not see them that connec- tion with each other. In fact, I think the girl hates Rachel lenses.”
“What will we do then, Frank? The thing is very ugly out there. But if you give me a choice, I would go as far as possible from that crazy. That woman makes me nervous.”
“She has an ace up his sleeve. There is no cure, but something must float on his head, and still do not know what it is. Let’s go inside.”
Hair was opened in furrows through his fingers. He leant his forehead and elbows on the table. Feeling the door open again, she took a deep breath and could better distinguish the features of the dark. His eyes adjusted to the dim light and a voice inside ordered him not to negotiate at all.
“Tell me about your plans. Tell me what you’d be doing if we had not arrived. What the hell can exist after the apocalypse?”
“Nothing,” replied calmly. “Henceforth, there is nothing for you.”
“And for whom, then? Tell me, and maybe I can understand you. Or do you think I crossed the country to hear that there is nothing more to be done?”
“You understand me? Is that what you want? Are you trying to look good in your eyes with me when he does not turn off the flame of hate when you look at me? I’ll tell you what I think. I think you crossed the country to put a bullet in the brain, and now you’ve got me head, your instinct tells you to depend on me.”
Frank cracked his knuckles and let go a slap on the face that left her on the floor. Rachel was bewildered, dazed by the force of the blow. He recovered with messy hair and bright eyes. He is rubbing his lower lip with his tongue and discovered the taste of blood.
“You’re the devil in the skin of a woman.” She leaned forward and whispered in his ear: “You’re wrong... I am God.”
“You are insane. Sick. Dead inside and out.”
Frank’s hand went to the holster, and the pilot prepared the ears for the outbreak of shooting.
“My name is Rachel Hayes! The person who favored the life of the species that man kills without mercy. Dr. Z who created the virus to exterminate the worst predator in history. The woman who opened the way to a new land without us. My mission is ac- complished... Now you can shoot.”
Those words sounded like a hymn of farewell. Frank stared at him, and again felt the demon of fear wriggled inside. He dodged her eyes and whispered some instructions to the pilot. The man nodded and left the interrogation room leaving the door open. Minutes later, he returned with Daylet. She toured the area loo- king for Colin, but only found the messy face Rachel.
“This woman says that after the apocalypse of the undead there is nothing else to do, is that true?”
“I do not know. This harmful bitch dragged me here like a dog tied to a chain.”
“Interesting! That is, you are not exactly friends.” “The hatred, yes, as you have no idea.”
“Well, do yourself a favor and put a bullet in the head,” Frank offered the gun and put a lot of attention to their movements.
The girl licked inside and lifted the gun reviewing a series of events since he saw her appear at the laboratory where the cap- sules were manufactured. He pulled his hands up to the withered face and pulled the trigger. Frank, who paid special attention to his fingers, saw the girl pushed him to the force required to fire a bullet right there, just that the man tested when he handed the gun without taking insurance. Daylet relaxed his muscles in the absence of the shot. Frank hands gently pulled the gun, and can say with some confidence. It was clear that the girl bangs huge lenses that caused a ghost schoolgirl shot, if not because he was given the weapon secured, it would have made Rachel’s blood had crashed against the wall.
“This end of the world is more complicated than it seems!” He scoffed keeping the gun again.
The girl shook with nerves and although his eyes remained still, Rachel’s image was distorted after his tears.
“Where’s Colin?” Daylet asked.
“You’ve just earned my trust, and I think the least we should do is give you an answer, but no one has worked enough.”
“Asks whatever. I will try to clarify without hesitation” She spoke immediately imagining Rachel strangling her from a distance.
“I’ll be direct. Where do they keep the virus cure Z?”
“There’s no cure.”
“Rachel told me yes, but refuses to tell me where the guard,” lied in front of everyone.
“Impossible, the cure does not exist.”
“All right. If you hate her so much, why do not you run away? At the end of the day, not wearing a neck chain as you mentioned a while ago.”
“Because he has tied me under threat, and we have a deal.”
Rachel lined her eyes with her to plead with the look that did not mention Samantha.
“What kind of deal?” Speaks.
“She injected me a load of virus within a chip, and if I want to
save myself, I owe to safeguard her first.”
“Are you infected, then?”
“Did not you hear? The virus is inside a chip.”
“It’s not a deal. It’s a bloody blackmail. And how you are su- pposed to put safe?”
“In this installation there is a special room that functions as a time machine. This is where the bodies chambers to be resusci- tated in the future are frozen. She knows the process better than anyone, and his plan is hibernating until no traces of the plague on the planet.”
“Ah, so that was your secret!” Frank exclaimed with a smile, as if the case had been closed there.
“What guarantee have not become infected after she is frozen and how she will know not kill her inside the tank cold?” He asked the pilot.
Tan was impressed. His colleague into the air and the mi- llion-dollar question so hard to answer that, if persuaded, change plans in the next few minutes.
“Things of scientists. At the beginning of the freezing pro- cess, the network sends an automatic message to amnion, which is the computer that handles encrypt information with data from people frozen. When the codes come into your system, begins a
countdown to the scheduled date for the thawing of bodies and
restore blood was replaced by cryoprotectant fluid.”
“What about your chip?”
“My system will be out in a few days. By then, this bitch will be frozen under automatic code which is operated from amnion, and so both have fulfilled our part of the bargain.”
“
Why you pulled the trigger, then, when I gave you the gun?” Frank interjected.
“Because I’m tired, and despite the times, there is still a be- trayal,” she lied.
Both the pilot and Frank were convinced with the explanation of the nerd. It seemed convincing. They walked to the door to discuss the issue and realized that the girl did not move.
“You come?”
“I’m leaving right away without diminishing weight” She said convinced.
When the men left the room and disappeared with his faint shadows, Rachel spoke softly:
“I owe you one.”
“With this, they are already two,” fingers Daylet replied in
peace.”
“Hey, girl, I also saw you pull the trigger.”
“I look like a fool, but I’m not. My father had an equal. Of
course, I realized I had locked.”
“You are big. Now you’d better go.” She winked and began to shout. “Let go, bitch!”
“I hate, disgust you feel!”
Daylet was on him and left her lying in a push that tasted like revenge. Rachel stood up and raised his chair. He waited until the girl was about to go out and hit the moment the door closed. He walked past the two men like the cat who broke the vase.
“Where do you think you are going?” He asked the dark. “Smoke cigarette! Is prohibited?”
After the ostentatious answer, Frank stared meditatively, his
eyes hung in the air, hunting ideas as a flytrap plant.
“Had you heard talk about those cold rooms?”
“He makes a time,” said the pilot. “I read in a magazine and then looked for information on the Internet. Hey, buddy, you will not be thinking about getting into one of those tanks?”
“You would do it?”
“You are kidding? I prefer wildlife before freeze for years.” “If you’re sure of what you say, then I need a huge favor.” “I commanded you.”
