Trevor pulled her close and embraced her. “Thanks for introducing us.”

Trevor grasped Kenzie’s hand and caressed the top with his thumb. The plane had just taken off from Maryland. Kenzie pivoted in her seat, still holding onto his hand. “Do you know that God doesn’t give a spirit of fear?”
He nodded. “That’s from the book of Timothy, right?”
“Second Timothy.” She breathed in and let it out. “Satan has used fear to try to steal God’s plan from me. I can’t let that happen.” Kenzie stroked his cheek and held her hand there.
His heart fluttered at her gentle touch.
“June.”
He searched her eyes. “The wedding?”
She nodded.
His pulse picked up. She leaned in and closed her eyes. He gladly claimed her lips with his.

Winter and spring could not have passed more slowly for Trevor. Finally, their June day arrived. He stood next to the mountain stream where he had proposed, awaiting his bride. Fidgeting, he rubbed his sweaty palms together. He glanced at his father, standing next to him. His dad grinned and winked. Returning his gaze up the pathway, he strained for his first glimpse.
The music changed and the guests stood.
His heart nearly beat out of his shirt and tears brimmed his eyes.
Kenzie cantered toward him. Her simple white dress flowed to the ground and caressed her small waist with a section trailing behind her. One shoulder was bare while the other was covered. From that shoulder hung a long, see-through overlay that wisped in the breeze along with the tendrils of hair around her face.
Breathtaking. Literally.
She stepped in front of him, her eyes never leaving his.
He mouthed, “Beautiful.” Her smile widened and her cheeks glowed.
When the time came for vows, the minister paused. “Kenzie has prepared a portion of her vows herself. Kenzie,” he prompted.
Trevor gazed intently at her, not knowing of this plan.
Kenzie gripped both his hands. “I’ve learned to trust God over the past two years by reading His Word. In Hebrews eleven it says, ‘But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.’ By faith, I marry you today and know that I am being rewarded for seeking His plan.” A tear slipped down her cheek.
Trevor blinked back his own tears and swallowed. He was unsure how he made it through the rest of the ceremony being so enraptured by his bride.
The minister said, “You may now kiss your bride.”
Trevor promptly bent her over his arm in a dip and followed the minister’s command.
Both laughed as they straightened.
“May I now present, for the very first time, Mr. and Mrs. Trevor Wallen.”
He scooped her into his arms and started down the aisle.
With her mouth close to his ear, she whispered, “Won’t this hurt your shoulder?”
“Nothing hurts today.”
She wrapped her arms around his neck.

Kenzie snuggled near Trevor, as close as possible in the airplane seat. “I need to show you the last three passages.” She flipped to James. “This verse talks of not just listening to the Word but doing what it says.” She turned a few pages to 1 Peter. “This one is definitely meant for me. Casting my cares on Him.” She moved to the last highlighted entry in Revelation. “This verse says that the future is bright for the one who overcomes. Listen to this line from Nana Nita: ‘You’ll make it, Kenzie, just keep following the Guidebook.’“
Trevor reached under his seat and pulled out a book from his backpack. He handed it to her.
“What’s this?”
“Read the inside cover.”
“May the message of God guide you and shine through you more and more each day.”
“This is your Bible, not handed down. There’s a place for you to write your thoughts, if you like.”
Kenzie hugged it to her chest. “Thank you. I think I’ll do that, recording what I learn.” Just think, it might become a lamp for someone else’s feet.”
