Crashing into Her Page 28

by Mia Sosa

A DJ spins a remixed version of Sister Sledge’s “We Are Family” at my request. I’m still annoyed it’s one of the top fifty songs couples ban at their weddings according to one survey. What is wrong with people?

Anthony leads me to a dark corner beyond the dance floor, not bothering to find our table. There, he raises my hand to his mouth and plants a soft kiss across my knuckles. “I love you, Eva Montgomery.”

I’ve gotten used to the little flutter that skips across my belly each time he says it—and he says it a lot. “And I love you, Anthony Castillo.”

He wraps one of my curls around his finger, toying with it as he stares at me with smoldering eyes. “You’re the most beautiful woman in the room. I wish I could take you away from here and make love to you all night.”

I pull him close, sliding my arms inside his jacket and resting my hands on his waist. “We can’t leave yet. I have a surprise for everyone, especially you.”

He draws back, his wicked smile coordinating perfectly with the devilish glint in his eyes. “A surprise. I’m intrigued.”

I stand on my toes, placing my mouth near his ear. “I hired a reggaeton band.”

Instead of laughing at the news, he staggers backward, his eyes widening to comical proportions. “Shit, I did, too.”

For a few seconds, we stare at each other in silence, and then we fall over in laughter.

  See? A perfect match, indeed.

  Acknowledgments

Confession: I’m teary-eyed as I write this. The Love on Cue series holds a special place in my heart because it reflects my true voice as a writer. I’m beyond grateful to the people who helped me navigate my journey to this page.

To my sweet, supportive husband: Your love and encouragement (and thirty-minute dinners) mean the world to me. Thank you for always holding it down and making me smile. You’re my person. Always.

To my daughters: I’m blessed to have you and so proud to be your mommy. Thank you for all the ways—big and small—you helped me finish this book. I’m able to make readers laugh because you make me laugh. I love you more, okay?

To my fierce, independent, and stylish mother: Look Mami, I’m doing the thing. Eu te amo muito.

To my agent, Sarah Younger: I can’t imagine doing any of this without the benefit of your sage counsel and excellent GIF game. Thank you for making my dreams come true.

To my editor, Nicole Fischer: I can already predict how this will go. I’ll say you’re a magician; you’ll say it’s your job. And although to a large extent that’s true, you perform your role with such love, attention, and skill, that I do believe there’s some sorcery going on. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

To my beta readers (Ana Coqui, Susan Scott Shelley, and Soni Wolf): You’ve read every book in the series. Wow. I can’t thank you enough for your invaluable feedback and thoughtful advice. I owe you empanadillas, don’t I?

To my trusted reader, C. Lee: Thanks for sharing your expertise and good sense.

To my critique partner, Olivia Dade: Not even a move to Sweden could keep us apart. Thank you for always being “there” in the most important sense of the word.

To my partner in publishing crime, Tracey Livesay: Thank you for cheering me on, keeping me accountable, and making me cackle. We did it, woman.

To my 4 Chicas posse (Alexis Daria, Priscilla Oliveras, and Sabrina Sol): There are not enough pages to catalog the ways in which you’ve helped me grow as a person and a writer. You’re all amazing, and I’m thrilled to be traveling on this journey with you.

To the rest of the Avon Books team: Although you often work behind the scenes, your love for the romance genre shines through for everyone to see. Thank you for helping me share my stories.

  Bianca, you’re still a gem.

Would it be weird if I thanked my four-legged writing buddy, Zoe? Never mind. She can’t read anyway.

  About the Author

MIA SOSA was born and raised in New York City. She attended the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in communications and met her very own romance hero (spoiler alert: she married him). Mia once dreamed of being a professional singer, but practical considerations (read: the need to generate income) led her to take the law school admissions test instead.

A graduate of Yale Law School, Mia practiced First Amendment and media law in the nation’s capital for ten years before returning to her creative roots. Now she spends most of her days writing contemporary romances about imperfect characters finding their perfect match. Mia lives in Maryland with her husband, their two pop-culture-obsessed daughters, and an adorable dog who rules them all. For more information about Mia and her books, visit www.miasosa.com.
