  Acknowledgments

This book was hard to write—oh man, so hard—yet not in the sense of “what is it even about?” The novel was there all along, in my head and in my heart, but life got busy while Tate and Lyla’s story was being developed, and there never seemed to be enough hours in the day to get everything done.

I had to shoehorn in the writing wherever I could—had to dig to find the time needed to sit and focus, get it out, and make it the best it could be. It wasn’t easy, but eventually it all came together in a way that I love.

So, first and foremost, I want to thank my family for their patience, their understanding, and their willingness to stay flexible when Mom was trying to get it done. They gave me a pep talk when I needed it, they celebrated big and small victories, and they always let me finish that one last thought, paragraph, or page—so I’d be free to give them my full attention once more.

Plus, they pretended to be interested when I talked about all the minutiae of the plot and the characters, and the vagaries of the publishing industry—so I’m grateful for what good fakers they’ve all become, too.

Thanks also go to Deborah at Tugboat Design who, once again, has perfectly captured the feel of Hero’s story with her beautiful book cover. She’s so creative and resourceful, and always gracious about my odd, nit-picky requests. Basically, a dream to work with every time.

I also want to thank Helen Snay, my proofreader extraordinaire, who’s been waiting semi-patiently for Tate’s story from the very beginning. She’s cheered me on, begged and pleaded with me to finish it already, and occasionally even encouraged me to get up and move around a bit—all so she could get Hero in her hot little hands faster. Here you go, friend: enjoy your new book boyfriend! I hope you love him as much as I do.

Last but never least, thank you to my readers: Your support means the world to me. Never change.
