I stepped around him and dropped my clip to the floor while putting a fresh one in.
“You should have disarmed me,” I said to Anthea as she was crawling toward her down guard to remove something from his belt.
I grabbed her by her head and forced her neck up to look ahead at the wall.
She pressed a button the device and TV’s in front us came on.
They all showed the same thing, it was several news channels across the board.
“I told you that you wouldn’t win, no matter what,” she coughed up. “ADU will thrive.”
I put the gun to her head but couldn’t make a move.
“You’re not worth a bullet,” I said and tossed my gun on the table then took a seat in the nearest chair next to me to see what lay before me.
Every single station was showing the threat. It was everywhere, today wasn’t a message. Hell, they didn’t care about the nukes at all. This was a distraction, America was being invaded and I’m here to watch it all.
Epilogue
After what felt like forever of watching the news stream the chaos, I heard coughing and wheezing coming from behind me. I didn’t have to turn my head, I knew who it was.
“So that is what being shot feels like” Mackey said as he stood up and braced himself on the table.
“You’re lucky I missed” I replied without turning around.
“How did you know I was wearing a vest?” he asked as he took a seat behind me a few places down the table. I heard him began to take off his shirt and vest.
“I didn’t” I replied.
There was silence.
“I figured if someone who knew people would die today, that someone would have gave them ownself a fighting chance,” I finally said.
“I’m sorry,” he said. “You haven’t seen the bigger picture.”
“I am now,” I said. “It’s all over the screens.”
Mackey and I just sat there for what felt like forever.
Note from the Author
Hello there everyone,
I am Vincent King, writer of this short story you have read today. I thank you for taking the time to read and enjoy Ethan’s story. Ethan is a new character I have added into the Freebird series. For those of you that enjoyed his story, it is not over yet.
Freebird: The Service is a special short story I used to place between Freebird and Freebird 2: American Battlefield. While this story is free, Freebird 2 is likely to be one of my biggest and most greatest launches ever. If you haven’t read Freebird yet then I am sorry you just read spoilers but the story is still great to read and will heavily impact Freebird 2. Freebird 2 is currently set to release late 2018.
I would like to give a special thank you to my lovely girlfriend Brendilyn for being there for me. You are an amazing person and I cherish you to the max.
I would also like to thanks to my loving and supporting mother, Onur my graphic designer and Danielle Raver who took her time to see Boothe’s story come to life.
Without any of you, none of this would have been a reality for me.
Thank you again,
Vincent
