“Nice meeting you Lara but I have to go” I said and left.
I entered my class, this time the number of students are greater than the number of students in my literature class. My subject is Calculus, I’m not really in to mathematics but I have to take this class because it’s a pre-requisite in my course.
As I entered the class, many pairs of eyes are staring at me and I’m currently thinking of the reason why. Maybe because I’m too good looking, maybe because I’m a human, maybe because I transferred from a University in the city or maybe because the Delta is my friend and the Beta is my enemy?
Of all the reasons that came in to my mind, I think the latter one is the answer and whatever the reason is, I don’t care.
As usual I looked for a spot that is near the window and because the heaven is so kind, I found one. I immediately walked towards that seat and reserved a seat for me.
I looked in to my watch and its 2 minutes before the class starts but the professor isn’t here yet. “And nice to meet you again” Says a thin voice from a very familiar girl.
She smiled and sat down beside the seat I’m sitting “Look who’s here, the Delta’s friend and unfortunately the Beta’s enemy” She said.
“Lara, don’t tell me that you followed me until here?” I asked “Cassandra dear, don’t be too full of yourself. We have the same schedule for this subject. I was actually surprised when I entered the class and saw you sitting here” She said.
“Don’t you think its destiny?” She said smiling, I sighed “Destiny is cruel Lara and if destiny really did this? Then it’s an omen, a very bad omen” I said.
As Lara is bothering me, our professor entered the class and started discussing about the principles of calculus. Calculus doesn’t go well with me. I’m not even good at solving problems.
“About what I said earlier, it’s actually true” Lara said and leaned towards me to move closer.
“I told you, the Beta hates humans---“
“The Beta doesn’t really hate humans” Lara said and looked at me “What do you mean?” I asked.
“The Beta doesn’t hate humans, he just hate the fact that he fell in love with a human and the painful fact that the human whom he loved so much is the Cardinal who has to die in the hands of his best friend who is the Alpha” Lara said while looking straight at the professor.
I stared at Lara and again for the nth time, I felt pity towards the Cardinal’s tragic and painful sacrifice. It’s not only the Cardinal whose struggling to be sacrificed but the people around her also needs to struggle for the Hybrid Empire.
It must be too painful for the Beta to accept that the woman he loves needs to die.
“What’s with the sudden silence?” Lara asked. I shrugged “Nothing, you’re actually good with words. The way you explained about the Cardinal is like you’re narrating a story” I said.
“You seem to know about the connection of the hybrids in the higher ranks, are you acquainted with them or are you a family member of the Beta or the Delta?” I asked and Lara chuckled.
“You’re funny. Of course I know about them because I grew up here and maybe a lot of the students in this University know about those things. It’s just you who doesn’t know anything since you’re a transferee” Lara said mocking me being a newbie in this place.
“Tsk” I murmured and zipped my mouth. This girl beside me is also annoying, gosh, why is everybody annoying in this place?
And the rest of the time is me listening to the professor and to Lara’s chitchats of course. Wow, if I knew that Lara is this loud and noisy, I wouldn’t have entertained her at the cafeteria earlier. I surrender Lara, please stop talking now.
The class ended and I was not able to take down notes from the professor’s discussion because of this loud parrot’s annoying, blood boiling stories over here!
I left the classroom but it seems like Lara has become my tail, she keeps on following me and telling me stories that I didn’t even ask her to tell me. As Lara and I are walking, I saw Yvan standing in the corridor and it seems like he is waiting for me.
He walked towards us and Lara who never stopped talking unexpectedly zipped her mouth.
“Cass, do you still have a class?” Yvan asked.
“Yes, Lara and I have the same schedule for this afternoon but it will be my last subject for this afternoon, why do you ask?” I asked.
“Nah, I’m going to leave the University early this day because the Alpha is calling for a meeting and I think I can’t get you to your house today so I expect you to go home earlier than six pm” He said, no, more like, he ordered.
“Yes boss” I said “Good, see you tomorrow” He said, messed up my gorgeous hair, looked at Lara and left. Wow, great! Just great!
“D-d-did you just say my name in front of the Delta? A-and did he just looked at me??! Oh my gosh Cass this is a blessing!!” Lara screamed.
“Whoa Lara, calm down. What’s happening to you?” I said.
“I just can’t believe it happened” Lara said and looked at me with her sparkling eyes “Now I’m starting to really love you Cass!!” Lara said showing me her smile.
I sighed and entered my next class in which Lara is unfortunately my class mate and as usual, she sat down beside me.
“Lara don’t you have any friends? You told me that you grew up here so I assume that you at least have friends to hang out with” I said.
“Why? Are you getting sick of me” She asked “Yes” I responded, Lara laughed.
“Of course I have friends, I have a lot of them, and it’s you who doesn’t. You see, I’m staying here with you because you don’t have a lot of friends so I figured out that I should stay with you” She said and smiled.
I looked at her using my annoyingly bored face “I don’t need a company though, especially if it’s as loud and noisy as you Lara, I won’t bother to have one” I said.
“Ouch” Lara commented and held her chest like as if my words really hurt her.
I sighed and looked at Lara “Ok Lara I want you to please zip your wide mouth just for this time. This subject is one of my favorite subjects and I want to really listen to the professor” I pleaded.
I swear I’ll kill this parrot right beside me if I am not able to take down notes.
“Aye Aye captain!” Lara cheerfully said and brought out her notes.

The class ended and I don’t have a next class since I only have three classes for this day. I looked at my watch and its just 4 pm. I sighed. It’s too early to go home right now.
Granny said that rebelling wolves come out by 7 pm and I need to be home by seven so basically I still have 3 hours before the curfew.
“I suggest that you go home early after this class and don’t break your promise with the Delta” Says an annoying parrot beside me.
I looked at her and raised my eye brow but this annoying parrot in front of me knows how to be really annoying and so she raised her right eye brow too.
“But it’s too early, don’t you think it’s too boring to just attend school and go home early? I can’t live a life like that Lara” I said. “And don’t we have any clubs, restaurants, malls or amusement parks here that University students can hang out to?” I asked Lara hoping to hear a good response.
“Of course we have those, we also have malls here but that is mostly for the Hybrids because it is safer for us humans to go home early” Lara said.
“Wait what? You’re a human Lara?” I asked, all this time I thought that she’s also a human wolf.
“Of course I am!” She proudly said. “Look Cass, it’s too dangerous for us to roam around, we should go home now” Lara said as she’s trying to persuade me to go home.
“Ok let’s do it this way, can we not roam around at the mall for maybe an hour and then we can go home by 5:30 pm” I suggested, Lara looked at me seriously and sighed.
“You’re digging your own grave Cass and if the Delta finds this out---�

“Just this once Lara” I pleaded.
She looked at me seriously and then she sighed heavily “Just this once” Lara said that made me show her my happy face.
“I didn’t know you are this stubborn” Lara murmured “And I didn’t know that you’re too loud and noisy” I answered back. She looked at me with her annoyed face and started walking to lead the way going to the mall.
I smiled. I think I found a new girlfriend. This day I got two friends but I don’t know if it’s worth celebrating since the other one is an annoying jerk while the other one is a noisy parrot.
I looked at the mall that Lara led me to, this mall is one of the three malls in this place and compared to the malls in the cities, this is obviously smaller but this mall is honestly more sophisticated.
The way they built this is amazing and the design is a mixture of vintage and digital theme, it’s a work of masterpiece and I just can’t help myself adoring this mall because it is a work of art.
“This is Luna Canidae Supermart, what do you think” Lara asked, I smiled.
“Amazing” I whispered.
Lara and I entered the mall, it may be small but honestly speaking, this is the most sophisticated mall I ever visited.
“Cass, I have to go to the shoe store, I need to buy something” Lara said. “Sure, I’ll just be at the book store. I need to buy a new book” I said.
Lara nodded “Ok, I’ll see you there after I buy a pair of shoes” She said and left. I smiled and entered the book store.
Now I’m starting to really love this mall, even its stores are sophisticated. First I looked at the children’s book section and saw some books that I never heard about.
Maybe these children’s books are exclusively published in this place since the contents are about wolves and the Hybrid Empire. I walked and saw the novel’s section. I saw different genres like immortals, teen fiction and of course erotic. Most of the book’s genres are mainly about Immortals like wolves, vampires and sorcerers.
As I was browsing through the novels, one certain book caught my attention. I took it and read its title.
‘Someone’s painful sacrifice’it’s the title of the book and at the back of the book is not the outline of the story. Instead, at the back is a two line sentence saying… ‘If that someone that you have to kill is your mate, then would you kill her and live in agony or spare her life and live in happiness?’
Those are the lines printed at the back of the book, I sighed and just reading those lines made me feel awful. How could someone have such wicked destiny as that?
Chapter 3
I Met the Rebel's King
“It’s actually a good book” Says someone from behind me. I looked around and saw another being with great visuals, compared to Yvan and to that annoying well for nothing Beta, this guy over here is the most handsome one.
My eyes sparkled enjoying his perfect visuals, wow, how could this place have such handsome guys?
He smiled and in gracious goodness to the heavenly earth! I almost scream!
“This book is actually one of my favorite books” He said and picked up the book that I just dropped because of him. I don’t even remember that I dropped the book since I’m enjoying his visuals.
He moved closer to me and I can smell his damn manly scent and it lingers in my nose.
“Miss?” She said and waved his hand in front of my eyes whose staring at his perfectly made face. I shook my head “I’m sorry, whatis it again?” I asked.
He chuckled “I’ve read this book and it’s actually good, do you love novels?” He asked. I nodded.
“Uhh yeah, I actually have a lot of books, I keep it as a collection since its fun reading fictions” I said and smiled.
“Great! We’re the same. I’m also an avid fan of fiction novels and this book is actually one of my favorite one. I recommend this book to you” He said and handed me the book that I dropped.
I smiled “Thanks, I’ll definitely read this” I said.
“I’m Serafin by the way” He said and lends me his right hand “I’m Cassandra” I said and held his hand to shake hands with him.
“So, do you also go to Hybrid Empire University?” I asked him as we get our hands back.
“Do you go to that University?” He asked.
“Of course, It’s the only University in this place anyway” I responded.
“Cass!!!” I heard Lara’s voice from a far and so I turned to see her. “Right here Lara!!” I said trying to get her attention.
Lara saw me and walked towards me “Come on, we have to go. It’s already 6 pm” Lara said.
“Sure” I said and looked back at Serafin to bid goodbye since we have to go home now.
“I’m sorry Seraf—” I stopped as my eyes narrowed seeing no one behind me.
“Where did he go?” I asked myself.
“Who?” Lara asked “The guy I’m talking with earlier, didn’t you see him?” I asked.
“No and let’s go, we have to leave now it’s nearly 7 pm” Lara said and pulled me outside the book store.
“Wait Lara, I have to buy the book” I said “Forget it for now. Buy it when we come back here! We have go home Cass!!” Lara said raising her voice.
“Ok I’m sorry” I said, Lara sighed and got a taxi for us.
“Let’s get you to your house first Lara and then my house next” I said “Nah, my house is right beside your house so it’s okay” Lara said.
My eyes narrowed “We’re neighbors?” I asked.
“Yeah, I actually saw you the day when you first came here and I also saw you when the Delta dropped you home” Lara said.
“And you’re granny is friends with my granny that’s why I approached you earlier because you’re granny asked me to look after you. See, I became an instant nanny just because of you” Lara said.
I shrugged “Yeah whatever” I murmured trying to think about the guy I just met earlier.
“Lara did you really not see a guy beside me in the book store earlier?” I asked.
“Yeah speaking of that, I didn’t really saw someone beside you when I saw you in the store” Lara said.
Wrinkles formed in my forehead “It’s a little weird though, how did Serafin manage to leave in that short amount of time?” I asked myself.
After saying that, I noticed the sudden change of expression in the faces of Lara and our taxi driver. They seemed surprised and scared just because of what I said.
“What did you just say?” Lara said “Serafin?” She added, even the taxi driver is too curious that he kept on looking at us.
“Yeah, that’s the name of the guy I just met earlier” I said.
“It’s impossible miss, no one especially humans can meet the Rebel’s king” Says the taxi driver that made my eyes narrow.

“Cass, there is only one Serafin in Luna Canidae and that name belongs to the Rebel’s king” Lara said.
I looked at Lara “Are you telling me that what I met earlier is the Rebel’s king? That’s impossible, how could I, a human meet a Rebel especially if it’s their king?” I said.
Granny told me that rebels can’t stand talking with humans because the scent of humans makes them crave for human meat and blood especially if it’s the Rebel’s king.
“If it really is the Rebel’s king, I advise you to be more careful” Says the driver and stopped the car.
“Anyway we’re here” He added and looked at the address that Lara gave him.
“Thank you sir” Lara said and paid the driver, the driver nodded and left.
“It’s impossible” I murmured.
“Cass I think it’s not a good thing for you if you tell your Granny that you met the Rebel’s king because if you do, she may get a heart attack. Everybody in this place is scared of two creatures and that’s the Alpha and the Rebel’s king” Lara said.

I nodded, yeah maybe its better not to tell Granny about this case because if I do, she will definitely persuade me to go back to the city and I don’t want to leave Granny here alone.
“Cassandra!! Lara!!” I heard Granny’s voice calling for our names “Granny” I said.
“Lara, go inside your house it’s already 7 pm and you Cassandra, come inside the house and make it faster!” Granny said.
Lara nodded and looked at me “Bye Cass” Lara said and waved her hand. I nodded “Yeah, thanks Lara” I said and waved my hand too. I ran towards our house and entered.
“You’re late, I told you to come home before seven Cass” Granny said.
I smiled “Granny relax, I’m here already. I just visited the mall earlier but I promise that I won’t be late again” I said showing her my most innocent smile. Granny shook her head.
“Let’s eat, I prepared a very special adobo for us” Granny said and went straight to the kitchen.

I woke up because of the rays of the sun coming in from my window. I stretched my arms and stared at my ceiling. Wow, I had a very good sleep.
I grabbed my phone on the table to see the time but I stopped when my hands felt something unusual on the table beside my bed. I sat down only to see a book below my phone, wrinkles formed on my forehead after seeing the familiar book.
I grabbed it and read its title. “Someone’s painful sacrifice” I murmured, this was the book recommended by Serafin last night. I remember not buying it last night so why is this book in my room right now?
I opened the book and saw a note in the first page.
‘It’s disappointing that you were not able to buy this book so I bought it for you and brought this book personally here. Consider this as my friendship gift for you Cass, I’m looking forward to meet you again – Serafin’
I gasped after reading Serafin’s note, how did he manage to enter my room last night when I made sure that everything is locked? Does that mean that what Lara and our taxi driver last night said was true? That Serafin, the guy with perfect visuals whom I met last night was the Rebel’s king?
