When she didn't reply, Dane continued.

"We can have a long engagement, if you want. But I want you to know I'm serious about the little family we have here, and the life we can have together. I love you, and I can't imagine my life without you and Kerri in it." He squeezed her hand lightly. "So I'm asking you, Ren Maddock...Maybe not today or tomorrow, but someday in the not-so-distant future, if you would be my wife."

Ren's eyes filled as he spoke and when he finished with that word—wife, they spilled over. It wasn't the ring, or the question, it was the idea that he had picked her. Of all the women in the world, he had chosen her, first. She hadn't been picked first for a single thing since her father had passed away. She turned in his arms, pressing a gentle kiss to his lips. Her whole body melted into it as his hands slid up her back and he held her to him. All too soon, he broke the kiss.

"So you never gave me an answer." His tone was teasing as he tipped his head back with a smile to catch her eyes.

  "Yes. Yes, of course yes."

Two years and a few dirty secrets stand between them.

For as long as she can remember, Emma Pierce has wanted to leave her sleepy hometown behind. She finally succeeds…and two years later, finds herself back in Three Rivers and face to face with the reason she left—a cowboy she can't resist.

Noah Baylor has made his fair share of mistakes, and letting the girl next door leave him in a cloud of dust ranks near the top of that list. When Emma rolls back into town, he vows not to let this second chance go to waste. He's a different man now, who knows what he wants…and what he wants is his best friend, Emma Pierce.

He's hurt her enough, but the only future Noah wants is one with Emma in it, and time is running out for him to prove it before she walks away for good.

  —ABOUT AMITY—

Amity Lassiter lives in Eastern Canada with her herding dog, her barn cat, two horses and her Mister. She has loved telling stories her entire life and even before she could write could be found in her grandmother's basement, reciting fiction into an ancient cassette recorder.

The most influential author in Amity's life would be Peter S. Beagle, the author of The Last Unicorn, who introduced her to her first achingly impossible love story and made her believe in magic. She met, and shared the most surreal small talk with Beagle in May 2014.

She loves critters, coffee, and cowboys - and she still believes in unicorns.

  —ACKNOWLEDGMENTS—

I need to thank my mom and daddy. If I am honest, I've had more than my fair share of silly ideas in this lifetime, and they've always been sure that, once they confirmed I actually meant it, they supported me 100%, even if failure was imminent.

Mr. Lassiter believed I was a writer even when I didn't believe I was a writer. For his ability to wait for me when I'm on a roll, understand that I didn't change out of my pyjamas all day because I had hit a sweet spot, and his tolerance for 90% of his dinners being done in the slow cooker so that I could spend less time cooking and more time writing, he deserves an award.

My sister, Shay, who in the early days understood that 'let's go for a drive.' actually meant 'let me hold you as a captive audience and figure out what the hell is wrong with my story arc', and still got into the car without the need for force.

And last but not least, the Divas of RD. Keriann, Zoe, Elle, Kate, Elianne, Mel, Jules, and too many others to name, for knowing what I needed most - whether that was a hug or a kick in the ass.

This book is a part of the Hearts of Three Rivers: The Baylors series. Each book stands alone as a complete read, but features appearances from other family members who may have their own story to tell in a different book. Amity's stories can best be described as 'sweet western heat', and contain open door bedroom scenes, but no frank language.
