by Death
Thank you to Kay Garlick, who is gracious, good-humoured and wise, and who offers sound advice.
Thanks in abundance to my soul-sisters, Faith Claringbull and Jane Tillier, who know what makes my heart sing, and who join their voices in such wonderful encouragement. Together, we’ve walked the good times and bad, and I could not have made this journey without them.
Finally, the boys. My son Sebastian: I have written around the school run, his social life and his bed time. This novel has only appeared on my laptop when he has not appeared in front of it. One day he will realise that his mother knows four-letter words. That day is not yet.
Thank you to Tim: husband, friend, confidante, lover. He has had my heart for eighteen years – long enough for me to know that he won’t appreciate me gushing in public. Instead, I am dedicating this novel to him, as a small token of my love and gratitude – for all the sticky toffee pudding, for the one word he contributed, and for everything else.
