Ranger: A Motorcycle Club Romance (Cold Angels MC) (Bad Boy Bikers Club Book 4)

“You remember when we started this little thing of ours?”
“You mean this relationship?”
“That’s right,” he said.
His tone was serious, and made my stomach tense.
“We agreed on a few things, one of them being that we’d never hide any secrets from one another.”
Uh oh.
There was something I’d been hiding from him, something that I had no idea how to bring up.
“Y-yeah,” I said.
“Now, no one’s perfect, but I’ve got a feeling, call it a sneaking suspicion, that you’ve got something really big that you’ve been hiding from me. If that’s true, and you want to tell me, now’s your chance.”
There was no getting around it. I was going to have to fess up.
“You’re pregnant.”
And then he beat me to it.
I looked over at him and saw that all the seriousness on his face was gone and replaced by about the warmest, happiest smile I’d ever seen in my life.
“How … how did you know?” I asked.
“I took out the trash the other day and I saw the test in the bag. You’re not the best at being sneaky. Good thing you’re a musician and not a spy.”
My face went red. I couldn’t believe it—the cat was out of the bag.
“So … you know …” I said, my voice trailing off.
I’d been excited and scared the moment I found out that I was pregnant with Ranger’s baby. Things had only gotten happier between us over these last few months, and we’d only fallen more deeply in love.
But part of me had been scared that he wasn’t going to be happy about being a father. After all, his life was all about being free and on the open road. And now, here I was, tying him down with a baby.
“Yeah, I know,” he said. “And it’s the best damn news I could’ve ever hoped for!”
Relief spilled out over me.
“You’re … happy about it?” I asked.
“You bet your ass I am,” he said with a big grin. “Why wouldn’t I be?”
“I don’t know,” I said. “I guess I worried that having a baby would cramp your style or something. Less time out on the road with your guys.”
“It’s going to be different, that’s for sure,” he said. “But Cassie, I love you so damn much it hurts. I love you so much I can hardly stand it. And now we’re going to have a little baby and every time I look at him, I’m going to be reminded of how much I love you.”
I smiled.
“Or her.”
“Or her,” he agreed.
He slipped his arm around me and pulled me close. I kissed him heart, my heart overflowing with joy.
“Plus,” he said. “Dakota’s got me working more high-up jobs that don’t have me scrapping with thugs. Feels like as good a time as any to settle down. Maybe you and I can move out of this place, get an actual house in a nice part of town.”
“That sounds so nice,” I said.
“Then it’s settled,” he said. “But now, let’s go get that baby of ours some grub. I can smell the sausage from here.”
Ranger pulled me in close for one more kiss.
I couldn’t have been happier. Everything was as it should be.
Epilogue
Ranger
I raised my glass and the four of us tapped our drinks.
“To the newest addition to the Cold Angels!” said Dakota.
“Hear, hear,” I said.
“Well,” said Cassie as she brought her glass of sparkling water to her lips. “I don’t know about that just yet.”
“Yeah,” said Angela with a smile. “Let’s wait until the kid’s out of diapers before we induct him or her into our little club.”
“I don’t know,” I said. “Could get the kid a little leather jacket; maybe a baby tattoo.”
Dakota let out a bark of a laugh and Cassie gave me a playful swat on the arm.
“Yeah,” said Dakota. “A little stick-and-poke skull and crossbones for the kid. Maybe a heart with ‘Mom’ written on it.”
I laughed at the idea of it, and Cassie and Angela couldn’t help but chuckle either.
I took a slow sip of my beer as I looked around the bar. It wasn’t just any bar—it was the place where I’d seen Cassie perform that first night we’d met. Now it was ours, yet another one of the acquisitions we’d made over the last few months since the fight with the Heretics.
Jackson, the former Angel who’d asked me to keep an eye on Cassie way back when, was even still behind the bar. He gave me a slight nod as we met eyes.
“I think the place looks pretty damn good,” said Dakota, his arms stretched out over the back of the booth as he looked around the joint. “If I do say so myself.”
“Also helps that there isn’t drug-dealing going on in the back,” said Angela. “Easier to relax when we don’t have to worry about shootouts happening.”
“Good point,” I said.
Things had calmed down to a major degree since the fight with the Heretics. With Red Flag dead, the heart had been ripped out of the sex-slaving, drug-dealing group that he’d made the gang. Their grip had loosened on the city and given us plenty of room to grow—not to mention to take over some of their territory.
We’d grown in strength since then, and used our new influence to make sure that no one around the town got into the flesh trade like Red Flag and his thugs had. There was peace now, and with it, the Cold Angels had been able to do some actual good around the city. Cassie had brought new life into our club and had encouraged us to give back to the community through charity. It might’ve been weird as hell for some of these churches to see leather-clad bikers come in to help build houses or pass out toys, but they were always happy for the help.
And now the gang and I could relax. Dakota and Angela were expecting a kid of their own, too—I guess Cassie and I had inspired them. All around me, the rest of the Angels were drinking and laughing and having a good time, and I felt strong surrounded by all this brotherhood.
We were only going to grow in the coming years.
Right now, however, I had more pressing concerns.
“How are you feeling about the show?” I asked Cassie, putting my hand on her leg under the table and giving it a squeeze.
“I don’t know,” she said. “It’s been so long since I’ve been onstage. I’m worried I might’ve lost whatever talent I had.
“No way,” said Dakota. “Ranger showed me some of your YouTube videos—no way talent like that just goes away.”
Cassie blushed.
“Thanks,” she said softly and sweetly.
“He’s right, Cass,” said Angela. “You’re going to kill it up there. I just know it.”
I felt in my pocket for the little thing I’d brought with me today. I’d wanted to give it to her after the show. But now, sitting here with her, I realized that I couldn’t wait another minute.
“Maybe a little present will help get you in the mood,” I said.
“Huh?” asked Cassie. “A present?”
I took the box out and popped it open. Cassie’s eyes went wide as saucers as she took in what was inside—a sparkling diamond ring.
“Cassie, you’ve only been in my life for a few months, but I already can’t imagine my world without you. And now that we’re about to have a family, I figured that it was long past due to make it official.”
I glanced around and saw that the Angels had spotted what was happening and were all gathered nearby.
“So,” I said. “Would you make me the happiest man alive and—”
“Yes!” she shouted out.
Cassie threw her arms around me and planted a big fat kiss on my lips. The Angels around us broke into cheers as I slipped the ring on her finger.
I felt so full of love at that moment, I could hardly stand it. Cassie was my girl, and she would be for the rest of our days.
“I love you, baby,” I said.
“And I love you too.”
&n
bsp; More cheers.
Then the MC for the evening stepped up onstage and announced that Cassie was next. She gave me one more kiss before slipping out of the booth and heading backstage. Ten minutes or so later, Cassie appeared onstage, her blue guitar slung around her shoulders and the diamond glittering on her hand.
She looked so damned beautiful. I couldn’t believe she was mine.
“Thank you all so much,” she said. “I just got some very, very good news.”
Everyone in the crowd knew what it was and let out a cheer.
“So, I’d like to dedicate this next song to the man of my life, my one true love. I love you, baby.”
I raised my glass as the crowd glanced back at me. I hated to admit it, but there was a little misting in my eyes as I looked up at the stage where my future wife and the mother of my child stood.
But no crying, though—Angels don’t cry. I promise.
Okay, maybe just a single really small tear that I wiped away before anyone saw. At least, I hoped no one saw.
She launched into her song and I watched, totally captivated.
Cassie was the love of my life, and I couldn’t wait to see what was in store for us next.
