Keeping as straight a face as she could, Courtney gave her group a warm smile. “Don’t worry, children. Whatever the Senior Chief has planned will…” Hearing a commotion, she looked up and sucked in a breath. “Sweet Lord.”
“I hope he doesn’t spill anything on that,” Caspian said quietly. “Because his mom will be really mad.”
Courtney covered her mouth and stared at Senior Chief Caid Adams walking toward her in his dress whites with a chest full of medals and a big bouquet of flowers. “Happy Valentine’s to me,” she muttered.
“Courtney Walker, I’ve got something to ask you.”
A trail of adoring females followed Caid into the children’s area, and she couldn’t blame one of them because her man was a sight to behold. Standing, she held the book to her chest. “I don’t suppose it’s about what’s for supper.”
“No, babe, it sure isn’t.”
She watched the children stand and surround Caid as he got down on one knee and held the flowers up. “Honey, are you sure it’s okay to be on your knee?”
“He’s fine,” Lilly volunteered. “Plus, he has to, so he can ask you the big question.”
Courtney accepted the flowers and pressed them to her nose. “Thank you, Caid.”
“Do you love me, Courtney?”
Caspian took her hand and nodded. “She does.”
Giving her favorite child a side-eye, she shook her head. “I do love you, Caid.”
“Will you pledge your undying love and devotion?”
“Of course, she does,” Elena volunteered. “As long as you have some chocolate somewhere.”
Caid winked at Elena. “Got it covered.”
Courtney watched Elena give him a thumbs up and a satisfied smile only a four-year-old could. “I do pledge my undying love and devotion.”
“Ask her already,” Lilly shouted. “I can’t take it.”
“Good idea.” Caid pulled a box out of his pocket and opened it. “Courtney Walker, will you marry me and let me love you until our last day on Earth?”
Just as she was about to open her mouth, the kids shouted yes and jumped up and down. Tears streaming down her face, she knelt down. “Yes, Caid. I would be honored.”
“Love you, Court.”
“Love you, too.” Caid lifted her hand, slipped a beautiful ring on her finger, and then placed his hands on her face. “You really want to marry me?”
“More than anything in the world.”
Closing the small space that separated them, she pressed her mouth to his and knew there wasn’t a luckier woman in the world.
She’d found her warrior…a man she could love until the end of time and the person she would call home. When he released her mouth, she sighed and heard the loud whoops and hollers the kids were making. “What would you have done if I said no?”
“Caspian volunteered to give you a supersonic love laser glare if I didn’t get the answer I wanted, so I wasn’t all that worried.”

Tipping her head against his, she appreciated that the universe had somehow found a way to send her the most perfect man in the world.
