  “Six months.”

  “Six months!”

“What can I say? I’m into long-term monogamy.”

Colin slept through most of the flight – it’s a long way to Florida – but I spent the time working on my character. It felt good to flex the acting muscles and do the work. It didn’t take me long to realize that I couldn’t stray too far from the real me – after all I was playing a guy with my name and life – but critical things had to change for me to make this work. My past romantic history for one. All my old girlfriends became boyfriends. Christina became Chris. Stephanie became Steven. My high school girlfriend Leslie became…well, Leslie. That one was easy. I began to build my emotional backstory. I had only had a few steady boyfriends before Colin. We were quite happy together but sometimes he could be really queeny and selfish. That would work – everyone though Colin was kind of queeny and selfish.

I woke him up after we landed and the plane taxied towards the gate. He peeked out at me from behind his sleep mask. “What?”

“Are we thinking about getting married?”

  “What?”

“Are we thinking about getting married? Your parents might ask.”

He sighed dramatically. “Tell them we’re thinking about it. We can’t decide on children. You want them and I think they’re horrible icky things.”

“You should wake up – it’s almost show time.”

He looked out the window at the airport. “Ugh, Florida. I can already feel the humidity.”

We collected our bags from the overhead compartments and made our way off the plane and down the gate to meet his family.

The welcoming party consisted of Colin’s mother and father – his sister, Sara, was too busy with wedding plans to join us. They seemed happy enough to meet me. Colin’s father was the spitting image of Colin without the fashion sense and detailed grooming. Colin’s mom gave me a huge hug and declared how nice it was to finally meet me. “I have heard so much about you!” They both seemed like lovely people and Colin kept them from doing too much prying as we navigated the airport parking garage and started the drive to the seaside cottages in the rental car.

Colin had been right about the humidity – the air was thick and heady and spiced with a salty flavor from the sea. “It cools off at night,” Colin’s father assured us. “But it’s a steambath the rest of the time.”

The cottages were, as advertised, by the seaside and spread out around a pool complex that even sported a nine-hole golf course. The place was so big we had to take two golf-cart vehicles to our room – one for our baggage and one for us.

There were more hugs and kisses and Colin’s folks left us to relax a bit and get ready for the rehearsal dinner.

We bundled our bags into the room. “A single?” I noted.

“Mom made the arrangements. I couldn’t argue with her.” He plopped exhausted on the large bed. “I won’t bite.”

  “You snore.”

  “Oh, I do not.”

  “Yes, you do. Loudly.”

“I’ve never snored in my life.”

“I can hear you through the wall.”

He laughed. “See? Isn’t this fun? We’re already arguing like a couple!”

I woke up early – in addition to snoring, Colin also tosses and turns. It was like sleeping next a blender. Honestly, I didn’t really mind - it was a beautiful morning and the rising sun made the ocean look like brilliant orange glass. The sand felt fresh and good under my feet as I took an early morning jog.

As I walked back to the bungalow I reflected on the events of the previous day and engaged in a little actor’s self-critique. How was my performance so far? How well had I committed to the role? I felt like I was hitting all my marks and making proper decisions for the character. It felt good to be so immersed in a performance – I hadn’t had the opportunity to really act very much in the last year. And yet soon I’d be flying back to my regular life. It didn’t feel quite right to see the closing curtain looming – I felt like I was just getting into character. There was a lot left to explore.

Back at the bungalow Colin – resplendent in a silk kimono – had ordered room service and was halfway through a plate of eggs and toast.

“There you are! I took the liberty of ordering breakfast. I’m simply famished. I haven’t felt this hungry in a decade.”

“Being in a relationship agrees with you.”

“Everything agrees with me, Jake.” He dabbed at his mouth with a napkin. “Now, I just want to say that you are doing a great job as my fake gay boyfriend. No one suspects a thing.”

  “Good.”

“But I have a few notes.”

  Everyone’s a critic.

After Colin’s notes, (“Be sure to tell everyone how wonderful I am. Also, I’m terribly well hung”) we dressed and walked to the designated beach area where the service was to be held. Chairs had been set up, divided by a red carpet that led to an altar.

The altar was really something. It was obviously handmade by a master craftsman – graceful lattice intertwined and twisting into an art nouveau design. It was a real piece of art strikingly set against the beautiful blue sky and gentle whitecaps of the breaking waves behind it.

I’ll assume you’ve been to a wedding before and get to the meat of the matter: beautiful bride, handsome groom, crying family (especially Colin), Man and Wife, kiss the bride, please move into the Caribbean Room for dinner and dancing!

Dinner, toasts, dessert, coffee – and then the party started. They’d hired a band, Kyle and the Cabanas and there was an open bar. The moving and grooving started and everybody seemed to be having a good time.

Even me. I was firmly entrenched in my role as fake gay boyfriend that I actually kind of forgot I was the fake gay boyfriend. I’m not saying I suddenly found Colin attractive and want to have babies with him but I was so deep in my role that I started treating him like my boyfriend. We posed for photos, danced together and generally had a good time. Of course, Colin is hard to keep up with, especially after he’s had a few drinks. He eventually disappeared and I found myself in lovely conversation with his Aunt Marcy from Ohio.

“We are so happy Colin finally found someone. It’s time for him to settle down. He’s a wild one.”

  “He certainly is.”

“When he was a little boy he used to just run around the house naked, waving his willy at everyone.”

“He really hasn’t changed that much.”

She made a sly glance over my shoulder. “Uh, oh, speak of the devil. You better go keep an eye on him.”

I turned to see what she was looking at and saw Colin in obvious and deep flirtation with a guest I hadn’t seen before. Colin’s body language betrayed how attracted he was to this man even from across the room. And even a straight guy like me could see why. He was strikingly handsome – brown hair with just a hint of gray over brown eyes and chiseled cheekbones. He would have cleaned up in LA playing authority types. Handsome, tall and obviously well built.

“That’s Sam. He built the altar for the wedding. He’s a great carpenter. Also, pretty handsome. Too bad he’s gay.” She fluttered her hand to her mouth. “Oh! No offense.”

“None taken. Excuse me, I better go make sure my boyfriend doesn’t get stolen!” I was being playful but I did have to talk to Colin. He’d had too much to drink.

I approached but didn’t say hi, just an “excuse me but I need to talk to my boyfriend a moment” as I dragged Colin of to a corner behind a Ficus plant.

“What the hell are you doing?”

“What’s it look like I’m doing? God, isn’t he gorgeous? All those muscles.”

“You’re supposed to be here with me! The whole point of this was to impress your family and now you’re going to blow it!”

“You’re right, I just get so horny at weddings. Must be the champagne.”

“Just dial it down a notch. If you want to get busy with studly over there at least be discreet so your family doesn’t find
out.”

“I’m so glad I brought you!” He drunkenly threw his arms around me and kissed me. “It’s so nice to finally be in a grown up relationship.”

  “Oh shut up.”

One of the bridesmaids suddenly appeared with a wild look in her eye. “Sara’s about to throw the bouquet!”

  Colin almost caught it.

Eventually, things died down. The happy couple vanished into their first evening of connubial bliss and the crowd dispersed, heading back to their rooms. A few factions of young people made plans for further partying, an idea which Colin thoroughly endorsed, but I managed to convince him he needed to change in the more casual clothes and got him back to our room. He passed out halfway through taking his pants. I got him situated as best I could and left him, snoring. I needed a drink, I popped a beer from the mini-fridge and just sat relaxing. From our patio I could hear the quiet rush of the ocean and I stepped out into the night to enjoy the view. The sand looked golden under the moonlight and the hot tub had never looked more inviting.

I switched it on and undressed while the water heated up. And then I slipped into the warm bubbling water. The swirling jets caressed my naked skin and I felt every muscle in my body relax and I didn't realize how tense I had been. This masquerade had taken more out of me than I realized. But it was over now. All I had to get through were a few simple goodbyes in the morning and I would be back to my normal life in Los Angeles. This thought actually depressed me a little bit. What was I going back to? More unemployment? More rejection? What was I doing with my life?

Just before I drowned in self-pity I heard a voice. “Hello? Anybody home?"

  A figure moved into view.

It was Sam, silhouetted in the moonlight. I recognized him immediately. He was wearing a white bathrobe and carried a bottle of wine. I guess Colin’s flirtation had gone a little further than I imagined. But I was too tired to play the jealous boyfriend.

He came onto the patio and saw me in the tub. “Oh, sorry. Hi, I’m Sam, we didn’t get properly introduced earlier. Colin said you guys were having some people over for some hot-tubbing and invited me. I guess this is it?”

“Colin is passed out inside. And honestly, I doubt he invited anyone else but you.”

“Oh.” A look of realization crossed his face.

“No problem. I’m Jake. Get in if you like, the water feels fantastic.” I was relaxed past the point of caring. And it appeared that my performance had been extended slightly.

“Thanks,” he said. He took off his robe and stood at the edge of the tub, above me.

Say what you want about Colin, he’s got good taste. Sam was incredibly good-looking and he looked like a statue standing there in the moonlight. I could make out every thick muscle in arms and torso. They rippled gracefully as he moved. Under the robe he had been wearing a tight racing style swimsuit but he obviously had noticed that I was naked and gracefully stripped it off before slipping under the water. For a split second my eyes were transfixed at the sight of his cock.

Maybe I was getting a little too into character.

My own dick was getting hard.

He passed me the bottle of wine and I took a big swig and passed it back. He took a drink and wiped away crimson droplets from his lips.

  “This is nice.”

  “Yeah.

“So Colin said you were an actor? That’s really cool.”

“Uh, yeah. I haven’t had much success as of late.”

“I’m sure you will. As good looking as you are.”

I felt my face grow red. I hoped he couldn’t see me blushing in the moonlight.

“Seriously, man. You’re better looking than most movie stars. You’re going to do great.”

“Thank you. Colin said you were a carpenter?”

“Yeah. It’s about all I can do. My grandfather taught me and I’ve been building things ever since. I just like working with my hands.” He held them up – they were rough, strong and powerful, as were his wrists and forearms.

“So what else did Colin tell you?”

“Uh, well actually, he said you two were in an open relationship.”

  “He did?”

A look of mild panic crossed across his face. “Oh, hell, was he lying to me? Sorry, I shouldn’t have said anything.”

“It’s okay.” I improvised. What would my character say in this situation? “I guess we do have an arrangement of sorts. He was hitting on you pretty hard. I would have to be blind not to notice.”

“Yeah, he was hitting on me pretty hard.” He smiled as he swirled the frothing water in front of him. “I have to say he’s not really my type.”

  “Really? What’s your type?”

“Honestly? Guys more like you.” He smiled. “I have a confession to make -I didn’t come here because I though Colin was in an open relationship. I came here because I thought you were in an open relationship.”

I didn’t know what to say. What would my character say? Would Boyfriend Jake do? Well, Boyfriend Jake just found out his boyfriend is telling people they’re in an open relationship even though it’s never been discussed. And the lying boyfriend is passed out drunk.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable. I should go.”

He climbed out of the pool and stood at the edge to dry himself. I can’t take my eyes off his body – he’s strong and muscular, his legs are powerful, his broad furry chest, the round curves of his ass cheeks. I follow the towel as he wipes the water from his body and I see his cock now, thick and hanging, water dripping from the head. It’s as thick and powerful as the rest of his body. My heart was pounding. Sam finally put on his robe.

I feel strange. There’s a knot in my chest and a feeling of expectation in my stomach. And I can’t deny it – I’m turned on. Maybe it’s the hot tub, maybe it’s the night air and the moon, maybe it’s…maybe it’s just that I want to have sex with this gorgeous man. I felt my cock stir beneath the swirling waters.

Sam ran the towel through his thick brown hair and dropped it around his shoulders.

  “Good-night,” he said.

How the hell did I end up here? All of this is so alien to me and I’m not sure what to do but I know one thing – I don’t want him to leave without me.

“Wait,” I say. I stand up in the water. Warm water drips from my body and a cloud of steam surrounds me in the cool night air. My cock is fully erect and standing proudly. I meet his gaze.

  He smiles.

  We went to his room.

Part of me couldn’t believe what was happening but the actor part of me knew I was doing the right thing. This is what my character would do. And my character would be nervous too, just like I was. Sam poured us glasses of wine.

  “I don’t have a lot of experience…” I stammered.

“It’s okay. We can go slow. Or fast. Whatever you want.” He reached out slowly and began to unhook the sash of my robe with his strong fingers.

“Let’s start here.” The robe fell open and his hands moved across my flat stomach and waist. He looked at my cock and smiled before taking it in his firm fingers. I gasped and moved closer to him as he caressed my cock firmly but softly. It grew and swelled even more in his hand. It felt so good I got lightheaded and stumbled closer to him. I could feel the heat radiating off his body and it felt so warm and inviting. I put my arms over his strong shoulders as he continued to pull at my cock, one hand now stroking my balls, pulling gently at my sac.

  “Is this okay?” he asked.

“Yes,” I whispered. And it was. It just felt so right to have him touch me. I felt I should return the favor so I reached out and with a hooked finger and pulled loose the sash of his robe. He quickly shuffled it loose and it fell to the carpet.

His cock had already been testing the limits of the fabric but now freed it sprung up between us.

It was swollen and getting harder and he brought both our cocks together in his hands. A spark of hot pleasure ran through me as he gently rubbe
d our two shafts together. He tugged and gently swayed his hips and I could feel the huge head of his dick slide down the underside of my cock, the tip pressing against my ball sack.

I started to shiver with excitement and he put a hand on my shoulder to steady me. I had never been this close to a naked man before let alone rubbing penis with one. The heat generated by our dicks was tremendous.

I took his cock in my hand. It was so warm, velvety soft but firm and hard at the same time. I stroked it softly at first, nervous and clumsy, and then with more confidence, enjoying the sensation of the pulsing under my touch.

My own cock was throbbing and swollen in Sam's hand. We stood together, stroking each other’s cocks. There was something powerfully masculine about the two of us stroking each other’s hard cocks.

He inhaled deeply. “That’s good man. You feel good?”

“Yes,” I said softly. “It feels so good.”

“I like your dick, man.” It swelled in his hand as if in pride for the compliment.

Sam put his hand on my shoulder and squeezed the muscle. I felt a wave of tension release and reached out to touch his muscular chest. It felt good to explore another man's body while I stroked his cock. It was almost like sexual massage.

Sam's hand moved across my chest and massaged the muscles there. I could feel tension leaving my body and the hollow being filled with hot lust. His fingers pinched my nipple and I felt a jolt of arousal flood my body. Thrusting my hips I worked my cock back and forth against his. The sensation was almost overwhelming.

Losing myself in character, I leaned forward and kissed him. If I had thought about it for one second I wouldn’t have done it but I was completely in thrilled now. Our tongues met and I could feel the stubble of his chin as I sucked needily at his tongue. He pulled me close, his rough hands encircling my waist. Our cocks pressed together up against our bellies as he took my face in my hands, pushing his tongue into my mouth. Mine met his with equal lust.

Suddenly he pulled away, leaving me panting for more. With his hand on my cock he led me over to the large bed.
