River's Heart Page 3

by Shayne Ford

“There’s nothing to tell. She works for me,” I say, barely keeping my face straight.

“I don’t like your smile,” she says.

I don’t like it either, especially when it gets me in hot water with her, but I can’t wipe it off my face.

  “What’s with you and women?”

“Yeah, exactly. What’s with it?” I say, dropping my gaze to her cleavage, and slipping my hands inside her robe, the silk sliding off her shoulders.

Gently, I cup her sleepy tits, flicking her puckered nipples with my thumbs.

A blush spreads over her face.

“Uh... um... Do you know each other well?” she asks, distracted.

“Yes, we know each other well,” I say, my fingers weaving into her hair.

She tilts her head back against my palm, her eyes streaming a deep crave while a quiet moan falls from her lips.

“What else do you wanna know?” I ask softly.

“And you’ve hired her because... um... she’s skilled?” she asks with a mellow voice.

Her nostrils flare, and her eyes glint with a primal need as her legs open for me.

My hand glides up on her thigh, my lips curving into a knowing smile.

“Yeah, you can say that... She has skills. She’s not as skilled as you, though,” I say, crushing my lip beneath my teeth as my gaze dips to the pink flesh between her legs.

My blood simmers in my veins.

I watch her going through colors, struggling to control her body. She’s so turned on, I could easily take her right now.

Looping an arm around her, I bring her close to me. She takes my face in her hands and kisses me softly, her touch sensual and warm, coursing through me,

My lips come onto hers, hard and passionate as my fingers slip into her hair. She follows my lead, curling her hand around my neck and sliding her tongue over mine as we connect in a deep kiss.

  Ravenous and wild.

Her legs wind around my waist, her hands tracing down my back and slipping inside my jeans. She grabs my ass, and fire sweeps through me. I tear away, my eyes glued to her swollen lips.

She pulls me back to her, and I take her mouth again. We’re both famished, and her body’s quickly scaling up, mine not far behind her.

A sound of bubbling water falls in my ears.

  I break the kiss.

“You’re so hot, Layla... You have no fucking idea...You better go before we set the kitchen on fire.”

Flushed, she ties her robe, sneaks behind me and scampers away.

I set the food on the table and walk outside.

I find her sitting on a lounging chair.

  “Are you okay?”

  “Yes, ”she mutters.

  “You wanna talk?”

  “No, I’m fine.”

  “How’s your Roman cat?”

Her eyebrows pop up. She gives me a small smile.

“How do you know he’s a cat?”

“He likes to watch TV and doesn’t mind when you’re gone. I figure he’s a cat.”

  “He’s good.”

“Food is ready. Interesting name, though,” I say and turn around.

  She follows me inside.

I pull the chair out for her and take a seat myself before I fill the glasses with wine, and we start to eat.

“Mmm, this is excellent,” she murmurs as she tastes the food. “Is there anything you don’t do well?” she asks, glancing at me.

A smile comes to my lips.

“Lots of things... But I do well everything I like.”

Batting her lashes, she lowers her eyes, her cheeks turning red.

We take our time eating dinner and chatting. Her stories relax me, pulling me out of my head and into her world.

We talk about music and life, food and nature. I get a glimpse of her past, and I begin to understand how she managed to preserve her innocence and stay true to her nature.

Relaxed and trustful, her eyes glint with glee, her words flashing unbridled passion for all sort of things and facets of life that escape most people.

I suddenly realize how easy it is to be myself in her presence, and that’s an invaluable gift.

She takes a sip of wine.

“Hmm. It’s interesting what a turn my life took,” she says.

  “Good, or bad?”

“Unusually good,” she says, and another blush seeps into her complexion. “I’m sorry, I don’t think I’m used to drinking wine,” she says, rushed.

Smoothly, she pulls away from the table and vanishes into the bedroom. Soon, the water starts running in the shower.

I grab my drink and slither outside. I pull my shirt off me and sprawl on a lounge chair, enjoying the silent evening.

Moments later, her heels click clack across the bedroom before she stops next to me. I glance up, a smile tugging at my lips.

Grinning, she unties her robe and peels off.

Tall and naked, her hair cascading down her shoulders, and her eyes full of love, she observes me as I drink her in.

Incredible beauty seizes the eyes of a woman whose heart belongs to you.

She steps out of her heels, smoothly straddles my lap, and leans forward, her hand brushing the ridges of my abs. My eyes follow the soft swaying of her breasts.

Slowly, she runs her hand below my waist and gives me a long stroke. Cupping the back of her neck, I bring her to my mouth.

Our lips and tongues roll together, sealed in a kiss.

I slide my hands down her body, and fill them with her breasts. Caressing her skin, I stroke every inch of her chest before I let my fingers drift to her slit, smoothly touching the engorged flesh between her folds.

Her nails dig into my chest.

She starts moaning, and I stroke her harder. She begins moving her hips, and grinding against my hand as I increase the pace, and I swiftly take her to the peak.

She scales up unexpectedly fast, the soaring pleasure taking her by surprise.

A raging fire simmers in her eyes as labored breaths escape her lips. Her stare goes blank for a moment, her muscles hardening, and her back arching.

She tips her head back, her thighs steeling on either side of me, her moaning becoming louder and louder.

I stroke her fast, her nails sinking into my shoulder as she begins to shake and shudder. Groaning, she sways her hips, her scream tearing into the night.

“Fucking hell, River,” she says, smiling guiltily.

She pulls her shoulders back and stretches her torso as my gaze sweeps the hourglass shape of her body. The smooth lines of her neck and shoulders, and her full chest. And then her flat stomach, and sculpted thighs. The sight makes my cock stir inside my jeans.

I brush her long hair away from her face, and feast on her insatiable stare, my fingers tracing her body, keenly registering the softness of her skin and learning every curve and line.

A gust of wind tousles her hair.

I brush the mane of hair over her shoulders and cover her breasts with kisses. My tongue slides over her nipples before I pull them, one by one, between my teeth. I squeeze them and bite them, shudders rushing through her body.

Her fingers thread through my hair as she cups my face and lowers her head, locking my lips again. Deftly, she lowers my zipper and opens my fly, her fingers wrapping around my shaft. Slowly, she strokes me as her wet, warm flesh, glides up and down my hardness as well.

A moan crawls up her throat.

She calls my name, so soft, my insides melt.

  “River...”

Without a word, I slide my hand under her butt, lift her up, and carry her into my bedroom.

Naked, we glide onto the crisp sheets. She sprawls on her back as I lie next to her. Her eyes swing to the projector hanging across the room.

  “What’s that screen for?”

A smile rushes to my lips.

“Are you sure you want to know?”

Grinning, she nods as she props herself up on her elbows.

  “Yes.”

I snatch the remote control off the floor, and press a button. Her eyes gleam with revelation as the screen splits, displaying six live feeds from around the house.

  “Oh... A security circuit?”

  “Disappointed?” I ask, amused.

Puzzled, she looks at me as I tap the remote again and the screen fills with the full live feed of the bed, the slightly tilted angle giving us a frontal view of ourselves.

  Perfect shot.

I watch her carefully, anticipating a reaction, and sure enough, it comes. As soon as she gets a glimpse of herself lying naked next to me, surprise and horror wash over her face.

  “Oh, no, no...”

“Oh, yes,” I say, barely withholding my laughter.

“Is anyone watching us right now?”

“Would you like to?” I ask, grinning.

  “I can’t do that.”

“There’s nothing to do. Just relax.”

  “Why is it so funny?”

She tries to snatch the remote. Faster than her, I move it out of her reach.

“Are you recording this?” she asks warily.

  “Do you want me to?”

  “No. Of course not.”

  “Running for the office, huh?”

  “You can’t record this.”

“Oh, yes I can, and I might, if you pester me. ”

She frowns at me, and I let out a soft laughter.

  “Good thing, I’m entertaining.”

“You’re funny as hell especially when you’re scared of... nothing?”

She turns her back to the screen and examines me. My eyebrows shoot up.

  “Yes?”

“Do you do that often?” she asks.

I bit my lip to squash my incriminating smile.

  “What?”

She points over her shoulder at the screen.

  “That... thing, and women.”

I glance at the screen, indulging myself for a moment in the high definition image of her ass. Studying her through my eyelashes, I tease her with a lopsided smile before I pull close to her.

  “I don’t do women here.”

  “Really?”

“Yeah. Really...You’re the only one,” I say softly, my breath fanning over her lips.

Her smile dies out, her expression shifting. She’s serious now, and so am I. It’s a brief moment before I pull away and move my focus back to the screen.

“Your loss. It's a good angle.”

I touch the remote and zoom in, and then I place it on the floor.

She rolls onto her back, her face buried in her hands.

“That’s even better,” I say, running my eyes over her body, my fingers tracing her inner thighs.

She parts her legs as I smoothly run my hand up.

Goosebumps form on her skin, a soft trembling claiming her body. Gently I run my thumb over her slit and brush her clit.

She shivers, so sensitive, so beautiful.

I flick my eyes up and catch her studying me, her hands no longer on her face. I smile. She bends her knees, opening for me more, and my eyes dip again as I slowly stroke her clit.

I lower my head, and press my tongue on her flesh, slowly pressing and licking. Her thighs jerk, her hips tilting up against my mouth, her sex warm against my lips and tongue. I start kissing and sucking her.

Her fingers latch onto my hair.

I roll my tongue over her clit, tasting her real good, feeding the frenzy between her legs. Her thighs begin to shake, her spine curving as her hips push against my mouth again.

She presses my head between her legs, moaning and groaning.

“That’s fucking good,” I say, grabbing her thighs.

I keep her glued to my mouth as I thrust my tongue into her.

Her body starts to give in, her movements getting harder, her moans louder. Her grip tenses in my hair while waves of pleasure sweep through her.

I shoot a quick glance up, just as her eyes root to the screen. Lips parted, and chest heaving, she rocks her hips, looking beautifully intoxicated.

I tear my mouth away, pull up and hover over her. In one smooth motion, I fill her up.

  She moans.

I drive myself back into her again, my tongue plunging between her lips. Groaning, she clasps her hands on my ass and rocks her hips, meeting my thrusts.

Moments later, I want her on her stomach. She rolls, and I pin her under me, entering her again. The long, deep motion makes her squirm.

Propped on one arm, I fill my fist with her hair and start hammering her. Every time I thrust, the sheet rumples between her fingers, and a low growl rolls off her lips.

A pleasurable sensation wraps around my shaft and swirls inside my body, escalating to the impending relief.

My pulse starts racing, my breaths rolling faster as my muscles turn hard like rocks.

The sweeping sensation crashes through me, a roar building at the bottom of my lungs.

I pull her hair back, and she tilts her head up. I soak in her profile, the glint of sweat on her lip, the flaring of her nostrils, and the exertion of her neck.

She arches and pushes her hips higher, and my grip strengthens on her hair as I pound her forcefully, her body responding, edging.

She shudders under me, growling my name as I crash into her with full force, rocking her body and mine, and riding that crest with her before we find an ocean of relief.

And then… As we scale down, it dawns on me how hard I’m falling for her.

“I thought you were gonna leave early.”

  Steve glances at me, curious.

“I thought so, too, but the kid sleeps in.”

He smiles as I throw my bag on the back seat.

“We’ll probably make a stop tonight.”

“Drive safely,” he says while jumping into his car.

Shortly, he pulls out of the driveway.

I walk back to the house and scan the rooms. The bed is empty, a sound coming from the shower.

I pour myself a cup of coffee and wait in the living room. As my gaze roots to the city skyline, her words come back to me.

It’s interesting what a turn my life took, too.

You never know when that time comes. The moment when everything shifts, sometimes for worse–– as it happens many times, and sometimes for good.

  Like now.

And if it happens to be good, you get that feeling in your heart, that all the time you thought you lost was not in vain.

  “Hey.”

  Her arms curl around me.

I spin around, her eyes lighting up, and filling with joy as I bury her in my arms. She’s warm and soft, her hair smelling like flowers.

She glues to me as I stroke her hair, and give her a kiss.

“I need one,” she says, pointing at the coffee mug sitting on the table.

“You’ll get your coffee, but we need to leave right now,” I say, breaking the hug and walking to the kitchen.

  She follows me.

“Are you going to tell me where we’re going?”

“It’s cold and snowy. Pretty much like New York this time of year... in case you missed it. Sugar? Cream?”

“Cream, and a little sugar. Business or pleasure?”

  “Both.”

“Are you sure I like it the way you do?”

“I’m damn sure,” I say, smiling slyly.

  A blush kisses her face.

I mix her coffee, my eyes running down on her. She wears low rise jeans, and a fitted, long sleeve top.

“How’s the clothing?” I ask and taste her coffee.

“Love it... It fits great. I may borrow your assistant... go shopping with her. ”

Her words catch me sipping coffee. I choke, unable to push back laughter.

  “You what??”

She’s such a little fox. Her eyes play a naughty smile as she gauges my reaction.

“Going shopping, huh? Yeah, sure. Why not?” I mumble.

Like that is ever gonna h
appen.

I plop the coffee in her hand, turn to the fridge, crack it open, and grab a couple of bottles of water, all the while evading her gaze.

She’s like a rat terrier circling the perimeter.

She knows she’s onto something, and she massages me any way she can to coax me to spill more information. That’s not going to happen. Not anytime soon, anyway, but what I keep forgetting is that she’s getting better and better at reading me.

Smiling, I pull away from her, trying to escape her scrutiny.

We stop shortly on our way out of the city to get something to eat, and then we drive straight to Las Vegas, and up North on I-15N.

Although it takes a few good hours until we arrive at our first stop, being with her is such a sweet relief. She’s quiet and calm, and quite the observer.

Resting her brow against the window, she either daydreams or gets excited about the little things parading in front of her eyes.

The scenery changes as we drive further north and by the time we enter Utah we drive through the thick of the winter. The wind stacks snow into big piles at the side of the road, the daylight slowly fading out.

We pass through small towns–– the kind I grew up in. Kids play outside and dogs follow them around, moms trying to get everyone inside. Christmas trees glow in the windows.

I give her a side glance. She watches everything with the curiosity of a child.

She hasn’t spoken in a while.

  “You okay?”

She turns to me, the ghost of a smile playing on her lips, sadness lurking in her eyes.

  “Yes, I am.”

  “Are you sure?” I insist.

“Yeah,” she murmurs softly and cuts her eyes back to the window.

  “You didn’t talk much today.”

“Everything is fine. I really enjoy it. It’s been a while since I’ve been on a trip.”

“Your eyes tell a different story.”

  She looks at me again.

  “What do they say?”

“I don’t know. Something is missing.”

  “Nothing is missing.”

She shifts her focus back to the road, and I don’t press any further. I check my phone and scroll down, sifting through messages when I find Thalia’s.

“We’ll spend the night at a lodge,” I murmur, going over the information and reading Thalia’s comments.

She wishes me good luck, her words bringing a smile to my lips.
