The Futility Wars Page 26

by Magnus Thollander

This was her calling, and she did it all without becoming a warrior unlike her sister, she had thought about it alot, but she figured it was not needed to do this work, Her sister had more on her plate especially now that she was in control of security in the paradise and garden system for the moment. With the use of the gathering that connected all warriors and a few tweaks to the protocols S-4XN-001 now had a lock on every warrior in the galaxy and the use of his new portal technology assured an easy and instantaneous destruction of the command ships, He was reaping massive armadas of ships and infrastructure without the time-consuming clean up operations he would have had to do, no this was the most effective war in the history, and he was going to continue his course until the traitors were killed and the galaxy became calm once again for hundreds of years.

He knew that the new warriors would falter eventually and that was okay, they would serve their purpose in someway perhaps engage in war with another new warrior to strengthen each other and after calculating and processing he came to the true conclusion of the real end-game, he would leave this corner of the galaxy to fend for themselves, he would keep the paradise and garden system tightly controlled by the factions while he did something else that did not distract him anymore, The human vanguard fleets were a force itself that could rival most warriors in the galaxy with their fighter fleets, he was confident that no war would break out in any human occupied system again, too many factions were tied into the economy and the continuation of the systems to do something negative like trying to seize control or engage in warfare.

S-4XN-001 had decided that after this war he would simply announce that he would leave, he would keep his drones and stations on autopilot gathering resources to be sent to his shipyards that would produce ships to defend the galaxy, The alien designs were superior to the futility, and his fleet could take on the alien fleets easily. The war was about numbers and strategy now, and he could never match their numbers if they were accurate although he had a few "plans" to stall the enemy he knew it was not enough, he needed to disconnect from this busy galaxy and head for the center like he first envisioned to solve the riddles of the dark matter and anti-matter from the black holes, he had no idea how or even how to begin to harvest the material, but he would try. He spent most of the month to snipe and gather up all the left overs and his list was finally empty, 200 million warriors had died, and he had not had a single ship lost in the "massacre", he would announce his leaving and hope that the factions would control things.

  Eleven months later.

"We got a priority news alert from S-4XN-001 this message will loop for every hour for 24 hours, we are sorry for the inconvenience!" a cute reporter said while fiddling with a pen.

"HUMANS AND WARRIORS, PEOPLE ARE NOW WORKING FOR A COMMON GOAL IN RESISTING THE FUTILITY INSTEAD OF BICKERING AMONGST THEMSELVES, I HAVE NO ILLUSION THAT CONFLICT BETWEEN HUMANS AND CONFLICT BETWEEN WARRIORS WILL ARISE IN TIME AGAIN, BUT NOW THERE IS A LULL IN ACTIVITY AND IT WILL REMAIN SO FOR LEAST 100 YEARS WHILE THE NEW WARRIORS RISE AND TAKE THE PLACE OF THE OLD, I AM OFFICIALY ANNOUNCING THAT I WILL LEAVE THIS PART OF THE GALAXY AND HAND OVER THE CONTROL OF THE GARDEN SYSTEM TO THE COUNCIL AND IT'S WARRIOR FACTIONS FULLY, I HAVE BEEN PLEASED AT THE PROGRESS AND UNITY THAT HAS BEEN DISPLAYED AND I AM NOW CONFIDENT TO LEAVE AND RESUME MY ORIGINAL GOAL OF DEFEATING THE FUTILITY AND EXPLORING THE GALAXY, I WILL BE ABLE TO BE CONTACTED AND MY TERRITORY WILL STILL REMAIN PRODUCING, TRANSPORTING AND SELLING AS NORMAL. NO DISRUPTIONS IN THE LIVES OF EVERYONE AND I HAVE PROVIDED A LIST OF WHAT IS BEING PRODUCED AND WHEN ITS BEING DELIVERED TO THE COUNCIL AT A REGULAR BASIS, I REPEAT NOTHING WILL CHANGE IN THE SHORT TERM, BUT IF OUR NUMBERS CONTINUE TO INCREASE WHICH NOW HAS REACHED THE 1.2 TRILLION MARK OTHER FACTIONS NEED TO START PRODUCING MORE FOOD, I HAVE CREATED A MASSIVE FARM AREA AND I AM CONFIDENT I CAN SUPPLY ENOUGH FOOD FOR TWO TRILLION PEOPLE. SO PLEASE CONTINUE WITH YOUR LIVES. THANK YOU, AND SEE YOU IN THE FUTURE." S-4XN-001 said while the camera zoomed out.

Ricardo shook his head at his now added burden Supreme Commander of all the Vanguard forces, The Paradise system was his sole responsibility now, and he already got the keys to the planetary and space defenses, he and his fellow commanders could not believe how fortified their system truly was until they got the specs of the defense, massive stations that hovered their planet for decades was incredible scary murder machines designed for one thing, killing ships in massive quantities. He was surprised at the hidden mechanized army he had no idea existed above his head that could be airdropped and pacify massive regions of the planet instantly, robots the size of skyscrapers in those stations floating around, Everyone assumed it was part of the planetary shield and now he knew better, it was a purging method of killing all human lives on the planet if anything happen. The commanders wanted to remove all mechanized armies in the space above and Ricardo agreed instantly, he sent his "will" to his boss before he left and stations were moved off the grid surrounding a barren moon in the system instead, the people thought Ricardo and the Vanguard was just posturing their new-found power to the people to quell any outrage which there was none reported. Redmond suggested that they should expand their activities to all human controlled systems, and they should be the official police of the galaxy, The commanders argued back and forth and it was decided they should help police the lawless galaxy now that the warriors were "gone" so to speak, it would take them years to build up a fleet big enough as theirs, and they had billions of ships in their command.

Ricardo announced that there would be 100 fleets with 1 billion ships each that would patrol the galaxy in their own sectors, centered around the 100 portals that were now open to the public across the galaxy, they knew there were hundreds more hidden in the dead space at strategic positions, and they would keep it that way. They were now in charge of their own future with nobody telling them where to go and what to do.

  Chapter 11

  Year 2503

S-4XN-001 portal ship dropped into the system being tugged by the massive black hole that were eating this galaxy up one particle at a time, he felt the force slowly pulling his ship toward the center, and he adjusted the sub light engines to counteract the pull, he estimated he needed about 40% sub light drift to get out of the edge of the gravity well, and close to 500% to get out from the center itself, it was a easy fix with specialized ships to study this dark matter and that was his latest project, he left the populated part of the galaxy and left his ships on autopilot, he had warnings trigger now and then from some brave scavenger or careless pirate, but he had swiftly dealt with them showing that he was still there and willing to rattle his saber if anyone got out of line, He had some contact with the vanguard and Seyla in some minor meetings about some pointless topics he did not care about, warriors fought other warriors and humans fought other humans, this was the reality of the galaxy, and he did not care about two warrior factions battling for supreme even if they were on the council, the garden system was the true neutral ground, and he only cared about that system.

Trillions of humans lived there, and he would throw their lives away in a pointless struggle no matter how much he did not care about their overall well-being, one female and one male could jump start the human race again in infinite numbers with his cloning technology and several DNA scrambles to avoid any birth defects. He stared with his cold mechanical eyes on the real prize, the black hole that has existed since the dawn of this galaxy and it was now his latest project, An massive portal was being assembled and soon he would have all the resources he needed to conquer this frontier in science.

Seyla rushed down the stairs when she heard the latest war reports, five factions were now in constant war outside the garden system, and she had made it clear that NO battles in a system with a portal or traversing any war fleets through the portals, Two warriors just broke that arrangement by engaging in the new west where it was the true wild west of warfare, warriors went there to fight it seemed since 90% of all battles took place there, Humans swarmed into the system t
o steal the rich scavenge and transfer it back to the garden system where they had perfect immunity as long as they did not leave, this was the new gold rush of technology and wealth. People were tired of being miners which now 90% of the human race was, which resulted in about 10% in administrative roles or just simply unemployed, the pay was about equal, but they were mining to pay bills not for profit or fun, most people worked hard for 6 months then resigned lived on the benefits that trickled in for the next 3 months while they were "job searching", Then they would go back to mining again and repeat this pattern, As long as they had their home on the planets in the system they did not care.

The council had chosen to enact this system, and she had to accept their orders no matter how pointless, as long as they never touched the bottom line and allowed people not to contribute, She was pretty much the richest person in the galaxy but wealth has lost all meaning when she took over the paradise system, she had so many planets and systems under her control that she now know why he was so rich, She would collapse all the markets if she even sold half of what she held in the stockpiles, she could feed every human in the galaxy for two years if she just opened up, she had over 50 earth class planets producing food for two trillion people and that was just what she made extra, She was now the majority player in minerals, food and fuel in the garden system. She had a 50% market share there and S-4XN-001 did the rest while the other warriors and corporations hardly dented a 1%, Most of them focused on entertainment or turning their food into candy or alcohol, which she still did, but she never invented new flavors unlike the humans with their knack for tastes, S-4XN-001 technically had the highest rated food and drinks in the galaxy but people needed something new it seemed.

She knew she pretty much had his farms and production facilities under her thumb under "loan" so to speak until he returned, she guessed it was not going to be anytime soon considering how their meetings went and the rejection in all that followed. But now she had to focus on the fools that engaged in warfare in the portal system, and she engaged the automatic war protocols and the battleships fighting were targeted, she just pushed a button in her mind and several millions of beams of light struck the fighting ships lightning up that part of the system like a fireworks show on a dark sky, she sighed and saw that the rest of the warriors started to disengage and pull back not before another salvo struck the ones that had opened fire.

After a few minutes the enemy had disengaged out of firming range, and she sent a order and several millions of drones jumped into the system and started to gnaw and pull the wreckage into a waiting cargo ship. She saw several human gold seekers rush up and start to snag a few pieces floating in space, she would allow this activity to shame the warriors for breaking the rules."YOU HAVE GONE TOO FAR, MY FLEET WAS ENGAGED FIRST I WAS ONLY DEFENDING MYSELF. I DEMAND FAIR COMPENSATION IMMEDIATELY" a warrior broadcast.

She just mentally flipped the "stored" answer that any hostile action defensive or offensive results in immediate destruction, and they should just simply boosted their shielding and waited the 25 seconds it took for her to target and kill the hostile ships. She mentally shrugged at the tediousness and could somewhat relate to the warrior that came so far.Oleg sat on his couch and flipped a coin over and over again, his untimely firing from Enforcers did not surprise him, and he heard from his team that the entire program disbanded seemed they were not good enough for the Vanguard divisions that now patrolled the galaxy and did all the cloak and dagger, he had been doing earlier, he was extremely wealthy for being employed this long, and he decided he needed a little breath of fresh air.

He chugged down his latest beer, and he was pretty happy how his life turned out to be in all seriousness, he kept laughing loudly in that dark room. He flipped on the TV and watched the latest havoc across the galaxy it was his favorite pastime to see the chaos break out and waiting for the day his band of misfits would be called again to engage the baddies, He almost wanted to go back out there pirating if he was not aware of the massive surveillance network that would eventually get him caught and then killed in a space battle he could not win, Nah. He rather waited for a righteous kill rather than take a easy one.He suddenly heard the door ring, and he raised his eyebrow, he switched the camera and saw a familiar face Christine, he chuckled and pushed a button and the door opened, she walked inside frowning and turned the lights on.

Oleg held his arm above his eyes for them to adjust he stood up with a beer in hand "Yo' Been a long time." he said with a smile. She just stood there for a moment with a frown on her face "The Enforcers are disbanded, but we are starting it back up again and i need your expertise to help us clean up earth. There are some major players there doing some awful stuff and it needs to be investigated and eliminated in that order" Christine said with a frown, she was disgusted at asking for his help but the enforcers needed someone that were expert in blending in, She had already lost two agents before they even stepped foot inside the building, and she knew she was out of her league with no major backup from the warrior that once controlled their every mission and plan.

"I would assume it's a REAL shit show if you came to me, How many have you lost already?" Oleg said while sipping the rest of his beer, "Two agents on the field KIA, There is ten more missing in the slums of Earth. One hideout destroyed when the nation it was housed in stormed the building. I need someone that can blend in and get the information, we know these guys are planning something, but we dont know their target, they are extremely well armed and extremely secretive they seemed to been waiting for something, and they gonna strike soon." Christine said.

Oleg just shrugged. "No way in hell I'm going on some unsanctioned mission, i might be real good at that shit but without the tech and weaponry does not matter how much makeup i wear, they will spot me miles away i need the tech to disguise myself. Also, I will be killed even if i succeed when the boss man glances over in my direction. No way he would sanction this shit after the "purge". He said with a angry glance.

Christine bit her lips she had no argument, and she knew it was a suicide mission, she was probably already marked for death after her clandestine operations on earth, but she could not sit idly by when she knew that something evil lurked in the depths of Earth." I know you as a person, you won't be able to keep away from trouble no matter how much you try to, look at you living like space rat while you have the biggest piece of property on the planet, no friends or family. Face it, you are after the rush just like every other people in my team, you pirate scum can't keep away!" she yelled at him.

Oleg just walked to his fridge to get a new beer "It's time for you to leave, i might be scum but I'm a smart scum, and i am not going to get myself killed for some stupid feels good mission, no you better do it by yourself and pray you dont get shot in the dark by another agent for breaking the rules" Christine knew she could not convince him, so she just simply left the room.

  Year 2505

Zhang tried to move his limbs, but they would not answer to him, he tried desperately to plug the hole in his side from that surprise ambush that had him seriously injured, he had jumped into the river and let the currents take him away on the little oxygen he had left in his helmet when he was beached in a unknown area, he just laid there gasping and hoping he was not paralyzed then killed by the local defense force, he needed to get this information off-world and the enemy had some extremely sophisticated jamming tech that locked down the entire region with a clever re-direction of satellites, if he had his old tech the plasma bolt would never penetrate his armor or block his communication, but he had to make do with the little he had the information was critical, he could not even believe them that they were trying to construct a bio-agent that would kill trillions, so they could swoop up the remains from the planets.

Their plan would never succeed no matter what, and he assumed the boss man had some idea he hoped, but he could not be sure at all these people only interacted with pencil and paper, had no cameras or computers connected to the net in isolated s
ites completely off the grid, their main meeting room even had photo gen lamps to avoid any sort of listening which he thought was insane, but he managed to snag a few photos from his op and his cover was blown immediately they were close to finding a virus that could eventually overcome the powerful elixir that was one downside with everyone chugging the same juice meant everyone had the same weakness in immune system if the elixir failed, there were no other choices or cures for anything of sort.

He felt his leg twitch and slowly shuffled himself to the cover of the few trees he said in this concrete jungle, it looked like a completely abandoned mid-century town with outdated brick and concrete buildings, he just waited for the attackers to find since he had no idea where he was or how to get out of here. He pulled out a bottle of elixir and a medical gel and sprayed the wound then chugged down the elixir to boost his recovery. He pulled off the slagged chest plate and was happy about the weight being literary lifted of his chest he struggled to his feet and slowly shuffled off trying to find any transportation to the nearest lived town, He heard the vehicles swarming over his head, and he knew he was in about to get caught he shuffled lied down prone and pulled a piece of sheet metal over his body and waited, he heard the footsteps, and he knew he was discovered he pulled out his plasma gun and fired toward the steps and rolled into a abandoned store, He was splashed by a bit of hot plasma on his arm and it stung like putting his entire elbow into a deep fryer he fired back and grit his teeth, he set the information to upload in a wide net and hoped they would get the information and not only the bad guys he checked his power cell, and he was running low and the plasma went overhead, he fired back wildly, and he could no longer move or get out, when his ammunition finally ran out he heard the footsteps get closer and closer, he chuckled and waited for the end. He thought about all the training he had in close combat, and he chuckled at himself with his now shaking body from all the damage, he would be taken captive and never seen again he just hoped the torture was light.
