Onyx Queen Page 8

  Chapter 29

Onika and Emersyn sat at the massive table staring at the screen in front of them. Amalee, Sarifena, Commander Critcher, and Rory all stared back.

“Amalee, what did the letter say?” Rory’s voice filled the speaker.

Amalee began to read the letter, her voice cracking as she did.

Your precious Queen’s light will dim,

Her heart will pay for all past sins.

The end is closing in on all,

To break the bonds, one must fall.

Silence reverberated through the room. No one spoke, not even a breath could be heard.

“Does this mean he’s going to kill Dimitra?” Sarifena spoke, breaking the hush of the room.

“We can’t let this happen!” Onika blurted out, “We need to find her! Amalee… please tell me you’ve read the damn journal.”

Amalee dipped her head, “I cannot find it.”

“What do you mean you can’t find it?” Rory sighed, her tone laced with frustration.

“I…” Amalee gulped, “I locked it in my safe, but when I went to retrieve it, it was gone.”

“Jesus fucking Christ.” Onika stood, her chair falling with a deafening thud. “Why didn’t you just read the thing when you got it?”

“Look,” Emersyn stood and placed her hand on Onika’s arm, “We don’t need to yell at each other. We can’t fall apart now. It will make us vulnerable.”

“Do you think whoever has her, knows you lost the diary?”

“We have to act on the belief they have no clue. Amalee, you need to search your castle high and low. Maybe you moved it and don’t remember.”

“Maybe… I’ve been so tied up with other things, it’s possible.”

“I’ll double the search for the area Jason told us she would be taken. If we could figure out that damn riddle, maybe then we could end this.” Commander Critcher spoke, slamming his hand down on the table causing a pop to resound through the screen, “I will not stop until we find our Queen.”

“Commander, let me know how we can help more. My men are at your disposal.” Onika took a deep breath, “We have to keep searching. And Emersyn’s right… we can’t be at each other’s throats. I’m sorry for yelling at you, Amalee. Let me know if I can help you.”

They disconnected the call, leaving Emersyn and Onika alone with their thoughts.

“What are we going to do, Onika? If they kill…” she stopped midsentence, her breath hitching.

“They won’t. We need to start digging into the past. Figure out how this is all connected to the Emerald King – our father. I don’t know how, but I feel he is the center of everything.”

Emersyn nodded, “You’re right. I’m going to go and look through the office again. Maybe I missed something. I sure hope Amalee finds that journal. My gut says it holds the answers.”

“I’ll show myself out. And I agree… that book is the key to everything.”

  Chapter 30

Night had fallen, casting the sky in a deep blue hue. Stars littered the air, giving an ethereal glow to the land. Lost in thought, Onika didn’t hear Luca step out onto the porch. She jumped slightly as his arms wound around her middle and his chin came to rest on her shoulder.

  “You all right?”

“I didn’t hear you.” She glanced over her shoulder, casting a smile at him, “just in thought. I know we’re missing something big – just don’t know what.”

“We will figure it out. I just hope Amalee finds that damn book.”

“Me too… I’m certain it holds the answers.” She sighed, turning her body so she was facing him. “Do you think Dimitra is ok?”

“I know it sounds weird, but I do. From what Anthony told us, I believe this Jason character is protecting her somehow.”

“I hope so. It makes me sick to my stomach to think she is all alone somewhere. Has anyone figured out what they put on her wrists when they took her?”

“Only what the rumors are saying. Apparently, there is some type of magically infused bracelet that suppresses magic. It’s the only thing that makes sense… otherwise Dimitra would have gotten away sooner.”

“Jesus… not only do we have to worry about a mad man, we have to worry about someone taking our magical abilities away?”

Luca rested his head on her forehead, “I’ll guard you with my last breath, Onika. You needn’t worry.”

“Don’t make promises you can’t keep. You can, however, take me to bed.”

“Oh yeah?” He smiled as he pressed his lips to hers.

  “Yeah.”

Luca held her hand as he pulled her inside, his heart filled with so much joy it nearly burst. Even in the turmoil around him, he knew the love he shared with Onika would overcome any obstacle. Laying her down on the bed, he gently stripped away her clothes.

“I plan to worship every inch of your body.”

Stepping back, he shed his own clothes and covered her body with his. Every touch, every kiss, drove her mad with need. Onika’s body was on fire with desire. Like a wind blowing the leaves, her body quaked with lust. She raked her nails down his back as she wrapped her legs around him. Her heel dug into his cheeks, begging him to root himself inside her. Luca pressed his hands beside her, lifting himself up so he could peer into her face.

“Tell me what you want, Onika.”

  “You… I want you.”

She reached between their bodies, wrapping her hand around his girth, and guided him in her needy center.

Luca rocked forward, driving his engorged member between her folds. The moist heat wrapped around him, making him hiss. As their lips met in a fury, Luca found a sensual rhythm. His cock buried inside her, seeking out the spot demanding attention. Over and over he hit her g-spot, making her cry out. He didn’t want it to end before it began, but her body played him like a fine-tuned engine. As her cunt began to draw him in, he knew there was no turning back. He was going to explode, taking her with him.

“I can’t last much longer, baby. You feel too damn good.” He forced out as he pumped into her harder.

Onika was close too, her body tingled with the familiar sensation starting at her toes. The tiny electrical current traveled up her body, zeroing in on her swollen nub. Swiveling her hips, she found the perfect angle, allowing his pelvic bone to rub against her clit with each thrust.

Luca’s body tensed, his cock growing even larger as his orgasm started to build. Onika’s eyes rolled back as the sparks of desire washed through her veins. Her pussy latched down, squeezing his member with a force more powerful than ever before. Luca grunted, his body spasming as he was pushed over the edge and lost his load inside her. For a moment, they were one, breathing in sync as they rode out the high.

Luca panted, trying to catch his breath, “You OK?”

“Better than ok… that was,” she took a deep breath, “amazing.”

“I love you.” He rolled to the side, gathering her in his arms.

“Thank you for loving me, Luca.”

“Don’t thank me. You have my heart, Onika. Wherever you go, I go. You're my home now. Without you I would cease to exist.”

She closed her eyes and listened to the beating of his heart. It beat for her, as hers beat for him. She drifted to sleep smiling. No matter the future, she knew he would weather the darkness with her.

  Chapter 31

Amalee fisted the paper in her hand. She didn’t tell the others the entire truth. How could she?

No one knew her secret, so how did the monster tormenting them find out?

Blowing out the breath she’d been holding, Amalee walked to her window. If this got out, it would destroy so many people – her included.

Why couldn’t her parents be normal?

Amalee couldn’t for the life of her figure out why they were so dead set on her marrying someone like him. Her mind wondered to the man her heart craved.

His dark skin and beautiful brown eyes. She’d been in love with him since she was a child
, even though he was older and had no idea she had a crush.

A crush… that thought made her laugh. It was more than that… her heart drumming against her chest reminded her of that. And for a moment in time, he loved her back. At least until everything fell apart.

Amalee placed her and on her stomach, the memory of that night so long ago made her gut churn. It was the hardest decision she ever made… not even her parents knew. She’d hidden it from everyone, including him. Ever since then, she built a wall around herself – pushing him out and keeping her heart safe.

She couldn’t go through the heartbreak again. Besides, if he knew what she’d done, he’d never forgive her. Her parents would likely disown her and try to take her crown.

Amalee tucked the letter into her pocket and gave one last glance at herself in the mirror. She brushed her hair, hoping to mask the fear coiling in her veins. Her entire world was about to come crumbling down around her. It was time she told him everything – even if it meant destroying herself in the process.

As she approached the door, she inhaled a deep breath before going in. This was it. This was the moment she’d feared the most. The only person she’d ever love was going to hate her. Gathering her wits, she stepped in to greet him. His face was a mask of shock and confusion. She held his gaze and gave a heartbroken smile.

She wanted to turn around and run but holding the letter in her pocket reminded her secrets have a way of getting out. Amalee took a moment, working up the nerve to speak. His smile nearly undid her. Once she uttered the words, there was no going back.

  “We need to talk.”
