How this man still managed to make her heart flutter in her chest, she didn’t know, but when Arez pulled her closer to him and began to kiss her passionately, she once more lost herself in his arms. His lips met hers in the sweet but all-consuming kiss that never failed to sweep her off her feet and make her heart thrum like crazy.
Slowly, he pulled back and smiled down at Elara, giving her a brief kiss on her forehead. A sense of warmth – a sense of everything being right in the world – filled Naomi.
“Shall we go?” Arez asked after a moment, cocking an eyebrow at her.
He’d obviously had a long day at work already, but it was clear he was in a better mood after having seen her and Elara. Naomi felt a flutter inside her at the knowledge that the two of them made him happy.
Just as he made her happy.
She almost missed Arez’s question, her eyes still trained on his dark, very kissable lips, but after a moment, her brain registered what he had said.
“Go where?” she asked, nearly breathless.
“To the celebration?” Arez frowned. “I thought you wanted to…”
But then his expression brightened and he seemed to catch onto Naomi’s mood. His eyes flashed and he directed a heated look at her that nearly made her squirm.
“Although, if not…” He bent over her, whispering in her ear and sending a shiver along her spine. “I can think of other ways to spend the time too.”
Heat crept onto Naomi’s cheeks. In fact, her whole body burned at his nearness and the feel of his hot breath against her ear. He pulled back slowly, his impossibly dark eyes shining with desire and his nostrils flaring.
Naomi swallowed, but briskly shook her head. “This is Alliance Day. It’s important. Plus, it’ll be Elara’s first celebration. We’ll go there for a while at least, okay?”
She wasn’t sure they could stay more than a while anyway. Elara was playing nice now, but who knew how long her good mood would last.
Arez grunted, obviously none too happy with her decision, but he respected it and straightened himself, all business again.
“Let’s go then,” he said. “But make it quick. Because I’m going to see you spread out on that bed before the night is over.”
The heated, mischievous look was back in his eyes, and Naomi blushed even more than she had a moment ago, but her embarrassment was short lived and quickly turned into laughter.
“Deal,” she said, rising onto her tiptoes and placing a brief kiss on his lips. She handed Elara to her father. The baby happily reached up toward her father’s face, and Arez grinned at the little girl, showing her his sharp teeth. Elara smiled back with a toothless grin.
“Come on,” Naomi laughed. “You’ll have plenty of time to make faces at each other on the way.”
Arez shifted Elara so he carried her in the crook of one strong arm and held out his free hand to Naomi. She put her hand in his and they headed for the door, together. Naomi sighed, feeling happier and more content than ever in her life – just like she always did, with Arez by her side.
