by Gideon Mills
In the back of his mind, he worried about the netherworld. This dark, scary place that he saw in Amon’s mind. It was one of the vilest things he had ever seen in his life. It was of death and hatred. Filled with creatures that loathed Wyatt’s world and wanted to destroy it. He knew that the ruler wouldn’t stop until he was killed. That was going to be an epic battle and one that Wyatt wasn’t sure if he could win.
For now, Wyatt walked the streets thinking of the ones he loved and of the future. He would do whatever he could to keep them safe. To make the world better, into a place where everyone would be able to chase their dreams without worrying about monsters, both real and human ones.
Epilogue
Gareth Stone looked out the window of his office and thought of the future. What he saw in the city concerned him. To many, it was as if nothing had occurred. The people filled the streets going about their day. Like there was nothing wrong in the world. The streets might be a bit cleaner than before, but that was the only change. That scared Gareth, and he didn’t scare easily.
The news that Wyatt Ryder had taken the job at the palace was spreading through the city like wildfire. Not that many understood what it really meant, but Gareth did. The centaur knew much more than the average person. He made it his business to know even more than the typical king. He had lived a very long time and seen much in the world. It was on the cusp of turning into a place that many wouldn’t recognize, and that was a terrifying thing.
The mage was just one small part of his plan to keep the netherworld at bay. The centaur had been to the nasty place and nearly died there. He had vowed to defeat it, but he never told a soul of his trip. None would have believed him, but now they would. None in the world would accept the legends of the place and the monsters that were there. Or so Gareth had hoped, but the way the regular people were going about their lives had him concerned. At least the king and the nobles appeared to be taking what happened seriously. That was a start. Garth would make sure that even more of the city understood the danger the world was in.
Since Gareth had been there, he could see the mark of the world on his own. Off in the distance near the elven homeland, he could sense the netherworld seeping into his own. That would need to be dealt with, and Wyatt and his harem were just the team to take it out.
It was vital to stop all the leaks before they started to gush into the world and couldn’t be stopped. Amon was a slow leak, and this mark Gareth saw from Cat’s home was another. The centaur worried that there was a similar mark in the goblins’ home, and the dwarves’ as well. Not that many knew where the goblins came from, but the dwarves were an easy one to check. That was Gareth’s next task, but first the elves.
Cat and Wyatt owed him, and he was going to collect, and make sure the battle against the vile monsters was won. No matter the cost. They were going to be his weapons, and he the general. Whether they liked it or not.
Author Notes
A friend of mine told me over and over to write a dark epic fantasy story. This is the result. It was a blast to write this one, and I’m extremely proud of this story. Wyatt evolved into such a fun character to write. The same for Cat, Ocativa, and Gillian. Not to even mention the many of characters that made an appearance. It’s rare that I like so many of the people that I’m writing. I hoped that showed up for all of you as you read.
