With a sigh of pure ecstasy, her teary eyes gazed once again upon the scene of that glorious Entity upon his astounding throne, surrounded by the immaculate creatures and beasts of his world. But rather than feeling herself unworthy, a peculiar confidence drew her forward. It had to be the blood of the Anointed One that made the change and she was glad of it. She wanted nothing between herself and the Entity. But just as she reached him, she was stopped short.
A new being appeared before her, much like the giant angels who had gone to guard over her journey to Maera’s mansion. This one was well-armored and gazed down at her with blazing eyes, then bowed.
“Hazel of the Many Kingdoms,” he said. “Thank you for answering the call.”
She nodded, still questioning the name by which they called her there. Perhaps, one day, she would come to know from where it derived. “Who would ignore his summons?” she asked with a smile.
“Many more than one would suspect,” he replied almost sadly.
“Why have I been summoned here?”
“I must request that blade of yours.”
Her hand flew to its hilt. “My blade… you want it?”
He nodded. “In truth, it is mine.”
She nearly choked.
“But I must now deliver it to another.”
“Who?” Who else would love the blade as she did?
“Iviana the Glory-bringer.”
Hazel folded her arms. “But this is such a special blade, and clearly so with its crystalline construct. How do I know it will be safe in the world with this Iviana?”
He paused a moment, actually smiling over her, then held out his hand. “May I see it, please?”
Her eyes flew to the Entity, who nodded. Almost begrudgingly, she withdrew it and did as bid.
Holding it in each of his hands, the figure turned to face the Great Entity. “Shall we?” he asked, looking into the Entity’s face as if they shared thoughts on another field.
The Entity’s eyes sparkled. “Indeed, High Warrior Viijelyk.”
The high warrior turned back to Hazel, holding a completely different blade—quite unattractive in comparison to the shining crimson one. “He has transformed it. It will not be so easily identified as exceptional. Are you satisfied?”
“No…” she admitted. “But I am resigned.”
With a nod, the being’s wings began to flutter and soon he had vanished from her sight. Once again, she made ready to approach the enthroned one when the seven torches surrounding began to spin and draw together as one. In a billow of fragrant smoke, H.S. stood before her.
“Hello, my dear friend,” he said ardently.
Stealing a sigh as she gazed into his face, she replied, “Hello again, you wonderful voice of the wind.”
He pointed to the crystal floor then. “Now, watch.”
Hazel crouched, resting hands on her knees as the scene played out on the sea of glass. Viijelyk appeared before the doorstep to a cottage. An older woman answered and led him through the dwelling until he had come to stand over an infant. Then, he lay her dear, well-sheathed sword beside the child and vanished.
“My sword has been given to a baby?” she asked in bewilderment.
“Not as yet—in your time,” H.S. explained. “But one day, it will be. And she will grow to become the Glory-bringer, altering Realm Leader Latos’ world forever. So, you see, it will not go to waste. Moreover, you have met the Glory-bringer. She is Ivi, friend of the prophet, Wynn.”
“Oh…” she gasped in wonder. She had liked the lady and was glad the weapon would be cared for by her. “Thank you for showing me,” she said, knowing full-well it was going beyond any kind of duty for him to have done so.
“You are most welcome,” he answered with a wry grin.
“But what if I should need it again?”
“You will not, else it would not have moved on. It prefers to be useful, you see. And you have got your bond with us—both that of the Bashtiian strain and of the Anointed One’s blood. Not to mention, you’ve your stunning voice. You are well equipped for everything you will face in future.”
She nodded, her eyes going to the Entity beyond him. My, how beautiful he was—so much more than beautiful. Suddenly, her hand flew to her head. Somehow, her Bashtiian crown was upon it.
H.S. smiled and stood aside, waving her on. The Entity’s eyes burned into hers. With a lovesick sob, she stole the crown from her head. Coming to stand beside those who cast their crowns at his feet, she heartily joined them.
