Marc grinned. “Okay, that’s adorable.”
“First thing I thought of was a Cornflower blue crayon.”
His boyfriend blushed before sharing his story. “Tops mine by a long shot. When training was done for the morning, my boss called me in. I was kind of worried. But he just wanted to tell me he’d heard good things and he couldn’t wait to have me full-time on his team.”
“That’s great, baby.”
Marc shuddered. Aiden loved Marc’s responsiveness to even his words. He loved Marc completely. There was no other man for him. The box felt hot pressing against his leg, hidden in his pocket. They’d barely started dinner, but he couldn’t wait. Looked like he was the impatient one this time. He rose and walked around the table, crouching beside Marc. He cupped Marc’s face, his skin soft under his fingertips.
His lover looked at him questioningly, but stayed quiet.
Aiden took a deep breath. His hands shook as he stroked Marc’s neck. “I love you. I’m talking about the kind of love that means ‘forever.’ I think I fell in love with you seven months ago today, when you quoted me all those George Michael facts.”
Marc’s eyes widened as he seemed to comprehend what was happening.
Aiden knelt on one knee, reached into his pocket, and held out the black velvet box, opening the lid to reveal two matching white gold-brushed bands. “I’ve never felt more certain about anything in my life. Every morning, you’re the first person I want to see and talk with and every evening is the same. I never want to wake up without you in my arms. Without you knowing how much I love you. How much I need you in my life.” His eyes welled up and Marc brushed away the teardrop falling down his cheek.
“I love you, too,” Marc whispered.
Aiden hadn’t realized how emotional he would be. His heart rate sped up as the words poured out. “Will you marry me, Marc? Will you be my husband, my soulmate, my best friend for life?”
Marc nodded as his own tears flowed. “Yes. Yes, I will marry you.” He threw his arms around Aiden’s neck and kissed him.
Aiden felt peace settle over him as they kissed, knowing the man he loved would soon be his husband. It was everything he ever wanted.
Marc pulled back and smiled, his eyes twinkling. “I have the perfect song for our first dance.”
Aiden bit back a laugh. He should have known that would be the first thing on Marc’s mind. “As long as it’s not ‘I Want Your Sex,’ I think we’ll be fine.”
