Secrets of Amelia Page 16

by Andrea Anderson

“I’ll call you a day before to let you know if we can set up everything and the stopover is certain and what time we would be there,” said Chad. “It would only be for a short time, I have to see you, and I miss you so much.”

Chad and his squad were going on a secret mission and were coming to Washington DC for a final briefing. He knew the pilot and was happy to see his old friend, Kelly come into the briefing room. He would fly the small aircraft they were using. Chad had known Kelly from previous missions, when he was assigned to Chad’s squad. Chad planned on talking him into landing in Philadelphia to check out a fake fuel problem. He wanted Amelia to meet him on the landing strip. He hoped Kelly would go for the idea, he knew it was a crazy plan, but Kelly might like a little adventure. They had done some crazy things in the past and had a lot of fun. Chad approached him and they greeted each other, happy to meet again and talk about old times. Chad told him what he wanted to do.

“Kelly looked at him and said, “You got it bad for that girl, huh?”

“Yeah, I guess so, but if you think it’s too risky, I’ll call her and tell her our meeting can’t happen.”

“You know Chad if we get caught doing this, we will all be in big trouble, especially me.”

“No, Kelly, I’ll take full responsibility, and say I ordered you to do this. Kelly if you don’t want to do it, there will be no hard feelings, I don’t want you to think I’m putting any pressure on you, if you think it’s too dicey, we won’t do it.”

“Don’t be silly, why would I not want to do it? I haven’t had any fun since I was transferred out of your squad, besides I’ll never forget you saved my life.”

Amelia couldn’t wait to see Chad, in order to do that she had to do a little preparation herself. She thought she would try doing a dry run, so she could see if it was possible to get to that part of the airport. She needed to get an idea how difficult it would be to get that close to the runway. After driving there one evening, she walked all around the inside of the airport to be sure she knew the way the airport was laid out. When Chad called her and told her where he would be, she would know exactly where to go and be able to get there with no trouble.

Chad was elated when he called Amelia and told her he would be at the airport at 5:00 PM, the next day. If she could manage to get there and be as close to the north runway as possible, he would be able to see her for 20-30 minutes.

“Honey,” she said, “I walked the airport as I used to walk jobs with my father, I know exactly where the north runway is. I will try my best, if I have to, I will buy an airline ticket to wherever to get to a gate near there.”

“I know you will try your best, Babe, I also know this is a difficult thing and if you can’t do it, it’s no biggie. I would love to see you, but I don’t want you to worry I will understand if you can’t get there and please don’t get in any trouble.”

“I will do everything in my power to see you, I miss you too, so much my darling,” she said.

As a lieutenant Chad was in charge of the mission. He told the sergeant what he and Kelly were planning the sergeant was on board with it.

Amelia went to the airport, she was very early, and she sat in her truck and tried to think, she poured over every detail of what she saw when she walked the airport. Still she was worried she wouldn’t be able to get to the runway. She closed her eyes put her head back on the seat and then it hit her like a bolt. She suddenly remembered, it had been niggling at the back of her brain, they had done a small repair job at the airport several months back, and each employee was given a special badge to get through security to get down on the tarmac. She didn’t work there herself but Chuck got a badge for her in case someone was sick, and she had to fill in. The day Chuck collected the badges Amelia was not working, with luck, she still had the badge in the glove box of the truck. He asked for it a second time, but she was in a hurry that day to go home and study and forgot to give it to him. She yanked open the glove box dropping the door with a bang. Nervously she put her hand in and raked out the contents spilling it on the floor of the truck. Leaning over she sifted through the papers and parking receipts and she squealed, “Thank you Lord,” there is was! A little crease in the plastic, but she had it. The best stroke of luck was that they had only patched the water leak, not install a new line. Chuck told her that they left a backhoe there in the event the repair didn’t hold, and they would have to dig it up again. The equipment they used was not needed on the current job. There was no reason to do the expensive transfer of the equipment off the site, especially if they would need it again, because the repair didn’t hold.

She put on her usual camoufluage, baseball cap, old coat, bulky pants and work gloves the same one she used to disguise herself on the job and entered the airport. If she was stopped and questioned, she would say she was there to check that the water main wasn’t leaking. I hope I can pull this off, she thought, if not I will have to go with plan B. Chad says you always have to have a backup plan. When she got near the security kiosk, she held her breath and with her finger over the expiration date, she flashed the badge. The guard waved her through. She let out her breath and sighed with relief when she was out of sight.

If that had not worked, she was going to go to plan B. That was to go down to the baggage area and if no one was around, or better if it was crowded, crawl through the baggage carousel. If anyone saw her, she would pretend she was looking for her lost luggage. She didn’t know if that would fly, but she would have tried it. She walked to where the backhoe was and started it up. She walked the machine as slow as possible, try not to bring any attention to the slow-moving machine and got it as close as she could to the runway. She had a little time until 5:00, so she put on some lipstick and combed her hair and tucked it back under her baseball cap and put on some light cologne. She had taken a shower and put cream on her body wanting to smell good for Chad. Now she was ready, she sat in the backhoe and watched the sky.

A few minutes before 5:00 Kelly’s voice came over the planes PA system, with some mock concern in it, “OK all you snake eaters, listen up. The fuel gauge is shaking its ass all over the place. I don’t know for sure, if those grease monkeys filled up the tank the way they should have. So, we’re taking a dive at this airport for a look see. No need to get your asses out of your seats or get off the plane, so keep on with the shut eye.”

Kelly landed the plane and Chad quickly got off and ran toward the edge of the runway, he saw no one standing at the fence. He was so disappointed, I guess she was not able to get here, he thought and frowned. Out of the corner of his eye he saw movement near a piece of construction equipment parked near the runway. How stupid could I be, I should have known when I saw the equipment, flashed through his mind. He moved with lightning speed to the figure coming out of the backhoe and knew it had to be her. Amelia literally threw herself at him and he wrapped his arms around her and picked her up. He hugged and kissed her, and they walked toward the cab of the machine.

Ordinarily the men in the squad would all be catching some zzz’s. They were always sleep deprived, especially on a mission, they hardly slept at all. Now they were all snoozing, except for Pee Wee, who had to get up to relieve himself and spotted Chad leaving the aircraft. The guys in the squad had nicknamed him Pee Wee. He was 6 feet 6 inches tall and was 250 pounds of pure muscle. Pee Wee would have done anything for the lieutenant, after all, he was the reason Pee Wee was allowed to stay in the squad. The lieutenant had gone to bat for him when he was in deep shit for drinking and putting two men in the hospital after a fight. Out of curiosity, Pee Wee looked out the small porthole to make sure everything was OK. He saw Chad running toward the edge of the runway where a piece of construction equipment was parked. Chad’s friends knew Amelia worked part time as an equipment operator, but Chad didn’t share that information with the men in his squad. Pee Wee saw a figure dressed like a man, get out of the backhoe and run toward Chad, the soldier scratch
ed his head. Holy shit, he thought I didn’t know the lieutenant was gay.

Chad was in heaven, “My sweetest baby,” he said, “how did you pull this off,” he asked, between kisses.”

“I remembered that the company did a small job here at the airport weeks ago and I had a badge in case someone didn’t come in, I couldn’t work that day they collected the badges, so I ……..silence by kiss.”

Between kisses she murmured, “Kiss me, kiss me, hold me, I dream of you and our kisses.”

“My darling, I can’t believe I’m holding you; we only have about twenty minutes.”

“Let’s get up in the cab of the machine,” she said, “I need to hold you and kiss you and get next to you.”

Chad and Amelia got in the cab of the machine, they kissed, and held each other as if it were the end of the world. “I had to see you. You are on my mind all the time. I wait for your emails and calls and I dream of us walking in the meadow the way we did when we went on our picnic. Babe you smell so good and feel so wonderful in my arms and your skin is like silk.”

“My darling, my darling, I ache to feel your arms around me and to get close and feel your body next to mine. I take my pillow and hold it next to me, as close as I can get it, pretending it’s you,” she said as a she pulled his shirt up, “so I can feel your skin next to mine.

“Pee Wee was getting agitated looking out the window, he worried about Chad, and didn’t know what he should do, he began talking out loud, mulling over what he saw. One of the other guys looked over at him and said, “Pipe down you big gorilla you’re gonna wake everybody up, with your big mouth.”

“Not able to understand what he was seeing, thinking he’s eyes were deceiving him, he said out loud, “You should see this,” he said in a loud voice, the lieutenant is hugging the fucking equipment operator.”

  “No way,” someone said.

Pee Wee erupting loudly with, “Way, way,” he said, “come see for yourself.”

The other men began to wake up and hearing the conversation got up and rushed over to see if they could see anything, from the small portholes.

“Get me a scope, Randy,” Pee Wee called out, “I want to see if I can focus in on the cab of the construction equipment, they got into.” Putting the scope up to the window and looking through it for a few minutes, “it’s no use,” he said downheartedly, “it’s no use, the cab is steamed up already, that only took about 3 seconds and now you can’t see a thing.” Looking dejected, he said, “I don’t believe this,” and he continued to watch.

Twenty-five minutes passed and the Sergeant came out of the plane, walked across the tarmac to the backhoe, and knocked on the side.

“We have to go lieutenant, now,” he said, as he banged on the backhoe with his fist.

Chad had his shirt off and her blouse off as he kissed every piece of her flesh that was exposed, and she wanted him so much. She would have exposed more, but he stopped her saying it took too much time to get undressed and dressed again. He let his hands explore all of her as she did the same to him. They moaned with passion.

The sergeant couldn’t see anything but heard what he thought was some moaning and the cab shook a little. In a few minutes, he banged again, “Let’s go, we have to get back,” soon the door opened, and Chad got out and helped Amelia down. “Thank God,” the sergeant said, “we have to get moving.” Chad had his arm around Amelia holding her tight to his side. As he kissed Amelia and he took off her baseball cap and her silky, freshly washed, hair came tumbling down.

“Chad,” the sergeant said with a grin, “the men were looking out the window and thought you were the guy who was running this equipment.”

Chad laughed and said, “Babe did you hear that?”

Amelia said, “They’re right I’m the one who was running this equipment, but I’m not a guy.”

“I can see that,” said the sergeant.”

Back at the plane, Pee Wee and all the squad were silent, on alert, and watching intently, as if they were on a mission waiting to make a move, as Chad and Amelia got out of the cab of the machine. Pee Wee had the scope at the window. As soon as he saw Amelia’s feminine features and Chad take off her cap and the long hair come flowing down, he yelled out exuberantly, as if it were a newborn baby, “It’s a girl! It’s a girl! The fucking equipment operator is a girl!” They all began to shout and cheer.

Chad held her close to him as they walked to the end of the runway. He took Amelia into his arms and kissed her long and deep. They could hear the racket in the aircraft.

In the plane, men were piled on each other trying to get a look out of the plane’s small portholes and when Pee Wee saw Chad kissing Amelia he began to chant, the other men picked up on it and joined in. Soon you could clearly hear, “Go Lieutenant Go, Go Lieutenant Go,” the men swayed and chanted enthusiastically almost rocking the small aircraft, from side to side. You could hear it almost as if it were a mantra. Chad didn’t care he smiled and told her they were his men cheering for him and kissed her as if he would never see her again. The sergeant came up and tapped him on the shoulder. “We have to go, Sir, now, right fucking now!”

Chad said, “My darling, you have my heart, I think of you and miss you every second I’m not with you.”

“Chad, I’m yours, you are with me constantly, please be safe my darling and come back to me.”

As they walked, back to the plane Chad was practically walking backwards so he wouldn’t miss one second of seeing her. He was disheveled, his shirt was open and half out of his pants, his hat was rolled up and stuck in his pocket, and the sergeant saw that Chad had a wet spot on his pants. The sergeant had a can of soda in his hand, he faked tripping on their way up the steps of the plane and spilled the soda all over Chad’s pants. He got to the top step, waved and blew her a kiss and they closed the door. When they got back in the aircraft, the men went crazy, they cheered, clapped and cat called and whistled.

“Sir, you old dogface sir,” Pee Wee said with the big smile on his face, “you had us thinking there for a minute, when you started hugging and kissing the equipment operator, we thought you were with a man.”

Chad began laughing, “That’s the only way she could get through airport security and get close enough to the runway, she had to use a disguise.”

“She is not only beautiful, she’s smart too,” Kelly said, “I must admit I was just as curious and I was watching too. Slapping him on the back and I was enjoying listening to the men tease you. You are one lucky bastard. We better get in the air before the airport officials come out here to see what’s going on,” and he went to the cockpit.

“We might have to adopt her into the squad, she is a pretty good thinker and good at disguises too,” said the sergeant. The men all clapped and agreed.

“Sir, that was quite a coup, you and she pulled off, Sir,” someone called.

Another said, “Sir, you will have to give us a class on camouflaging now sir, the truth is that we were trying to spy on you with a scope, but you are the best at undercover and work so fast, the cab was fogged up in 3 seconds, sir.”

Chad hooted at that, “So, you were spying on me.”

“Sir, at first, Sir, we thought we might have to rescue you from the equipment operator, Sir.”

“I see, you thought I was being kidnapped, is that it?”

  “Sir, yeah, that’s it, sir”

“Yeah,” Chad said, “I know you were all looking out for my best interests and thanks to the clumsy ass Sergeant, spilling soda on me, I’m now all wet and sticky,” he said, looking down and pointing to his trousers where the soda spilled.”

“Sir, you mean you weren’t wet and sticky before, sir?” That was it; they went into fits of hysterical laughter. Chad and the sergeant laughed too.

“Sir, I guess you won’t have to beat off for a while now Sir, someone yelled.” They cracked up again. They
were just about rolling on the floor.

Chad was enjoying it all too and said, “I’ll remember all this at promotion time all you ugly sons of dogs.”

Chad really didn’t mind about the teasing, he rather took pleasure in it, it showed how loyal his men were and because it brought back the memory of her more vividly. He also enjoyed the fact that they thought she was beautiful and smart. He sat in his seat, closed his eyes, and had the biggest grin on his face. He looked out the porthole as they took off he tried to see if she was still there. He saw a tiny figure still standing at the side of the runway where the equipment was parked. He wished he were still there holding her.

Amelia stood at the airstrip until the aircraft was out of sight. She cried and waved until the plane was a tiny speck in the sky. She got back into her disguise moved the backhoe to its original spot and went home.

She went back to the apartment and didn’t even bother to take off the clothes she used as a cover. Shelly and Betty wanted to know where she was dressed like that.

“I went to see Chad at the airport,” she said and jumped up and down hugging herself, it was so wonderful.” Betty and Shelly hugged her too. She told them the whole story how she snuck into the airport and how wonderful it was to see him, he was so handsome in his uniform and how they thought she was a man, and how Chad’s men cheered for them. They thought that was so neat.

Later that evening Amelia was reading the email Chad send as soon as they got to their destination, she laughed and laughed as he described the comments the men made when he got back on the plane. She loved the part that told of the sergeant spilling the soda on him, and when they thought he was kissing the equipment operator, who was a man.
