“You are my mate. My dragon agrees.” He stood up from the boulder and got down on one knee. He took her hands in his. “Fallon, each moment since I met you has been an adventure. I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together if you’ll have me.”

Her pretty green eyes watered. “Of course I’ll have you,” she said.

“I love you.” He picked her up and spun her around. “Sorry,” he said. “I got excited.”

“We need to tell Rowan. I want him to hear it from us, not one of his cousins.”

“Good point,” Brennan said. “I’m going to go get him now.”

On the far side of the land on which the house sat, the children were box sliding down the hill. No snow required, just a cardboard box and a steep grassy hill. Brennan looked back at Fallon sitting on the rock, soaking up a rare moment of sun. He came back with Rowan on his shoulders.

Fallon looked up at him “Hey, buddy, we have something to tell you.”

  “Are you getting married?”

“Well, Rowan, yes, we are. How did you know?” Brennan asked.

“I overheard Uncle Liam, Uncle Quinn, and Uncle Kellan talking about it. They each picked a different day that you would propose.”

“Okay. Is there anything special you want at the wedding?” Brennan asked.

“Yes. I want to have candy at the wedding.”

  “Candy?” Fallon asked.

“Yes. I want to have buckets of candy at the wedding.”

Brennan managed not to laugh. “I think we can arrange that.”

Brynne came out then, and she congratulated them before picking Rowan up. “I thought I’d give you two a moment of privacy.”

Fallon grabbed the front of Brennan’s shirt. “I would like a moment alone with you. I feel like we’ve had people on top of us for years now.”

“We have,” Brennan said, “but with good reason. They’ve all been concerned about you.”

Even though Kellan had a private jet, so they could get Fallon back to the States comfortably, Kellan hadn’t wanted to take her away from her sister too quickly. So they’d all stayed. Luckily, Brennan had a deputy covering for him, and all of his brothers had backup plans, too, so they were in no hurry to get back. Brennan was in a hurry to get married, though.

“That’s sweet, but I’m ready to be alone with you,” Fallon told him.

“I don’t know if you’re up for that yet.”

“I am.” She stood up and tugged on his hand. “There’s a shed back this way. No one will bother us there.”

He kissed her cheek. “You know I always want you, but I really am not sure you’re well enough yet.”

“I am perfectly fine.” She brushed her hand over the front of his jeans and pressed her palm against his erection. “And you feel like you’re perfectly fine too.”

He was as hard as a rock. “I’m always turned on when you’re around.” He scooped her up, lifting her into his arms. He carried her up the hill, toward the shed.

“Does this mean I’ve convinced you?” she asked.

“Yes. You’ve convinced me. Not that it took much.” He stopped walking. “But only if you promise me that you’ll stop me if you start to feel tired or dizzy. Or if you get a headache.”

Over the last few days, she’d been plagued by lingering side effects from the poison, but she finally seemed to be getting better.

She poked him in the chest and smiled playfully. “I am almost fully recovered. Quit worrying.”

Brennan shrugged. “I can’t help it.”

She sobered up. “I’m sorry. I don’t mean to make light of it. I can’t imagine how I’d feel if it had been you who was almost killed.”

He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her on the head. “I don’t want to ruin the mood. I’m just glad that you’re here.”

She tipped her face back. “There’s no way for you to ruin the mood. You’ve been telling me I’m your mate for over a week, and we haven’t even had a minute alone. I’m so turned on, I can’t stand it.”

  “So you’re turned on?”

Fallon scoffed. “I just said I was.”

  “So are your panties wet?”

“They’re soaking,” Fallon said, nodding slowly.

“Oh God,” he said. “I need to taste you right now.”

He carried her into the shed, a clean room where planting tools were stored. He sat her on her feet, and she pulled a thick tarp from the wall and laid it on the floor of the shed.

She wrapped her arms back around him. “I can’t believe you’re my mate.”

“And I can’t believe you agreed to marry me. We definitely need to celebrate.” He tugged her sweater off her head. “We can celebrate making love.” He put his hands on her backside. “Seeing you naked is a celebration anytime.”

He untucked her t-shirt and pulled it over her head. Then he unbuttoned her jeans and pushed them off too. Finally, she was clad only in her bra and panties. He laid her down on the tarp and stripped her panties off.

“Finally.” He ran his hands up and down her thighs. “I can’t wait to get my mouth on you.”

She stretched her arms above her head, moaning while he pushed her legs apart. He got on his knees between her legs and licked over her clit. She grabbed his head, pulling at his hair. “Brennan!” she yelled.

He laughed. “Shh. The sheep will come investigate to see what’s going on.”

She covered her mouth with her hand. He took a moment to run his hands over her stomach and chest. “You’re beautiful. You were beautiful as a human, but the way you really look is absolutely stunning.”

A pink blush stained her ivory cheeks.

“I didn’t know Fae blushed,” he teased her.

“They don’t, but I’m not all Fae.”

He kissed over her stomach. “I’m well aware,” he said. He took the tip of one finger and pressed it against her entrance. “I like the human parts of you too.”

He pushed his fingers all the way in, watching her face as her pink lips parted. She writhed on the ground, pressing her hips up against his finger. He added a second finger.

“You were right,” he said. “You really are soaking wet. My finger just slid right in.”

She thrashed against him as he lowered his head and sucked her clit into his mouth. “I want you to touch your nipples for me,” he said. “I want to see.”

She did as he asked, pulling her round breasts from her bra and taking them in hand. First, she cupped them, pressing them together. Then she took her fingers and thumbs and pinched her nipples gently, tugging at them as Brennan pressed his fingers against her sweet spot.

  “Please,” she said.

He flattened his tongue and licked over her clit. “Please what?”

  “Please fuck me.”

“Patience.” He circled her clit with his tongue. “I’m not done tasting you yet.”

She squeezed her nipples harder, and her back arched, bowing into a curve. He worked his fingers in and out of her pussy, and the lean muscles in her thighs tensed. He could tell she was just barely avoiding her orgasm.

Carefully, he pulled his fingers out. “You’re going to come on my cock,” he said. He paused. “But I don’t have a condom.”

“It’s not the right time of the month. I can’t get diseases. Neither can you,” she said.

  “It’s your call,” he said.

“Please fuck me,” she said. “I need your cock.”

She was his mate and his soon-to-be wife. If they didn’t use a condom ever again, that was perfectly fine with Brennan. He tugged her into a sitting position and lifted her onto his lap, positioning his cock so that she could slide down onto it.

Fallon moaned. Her cries filled the air as his hard cock filled her pussy all the way up.

  “Feel good?” he asked.

“Yes,” she breathed. “I needed this.”

  “I needed it too.”

Mate. Mine, his dragon roared. Yes. His dragon was right.
She was his mate.

He held onto her hips, and he began to thrust into her body. She put her hands on his shoulders and seemed to do her best to concentrate on riding his cock.

“I’m not going to last,” he said. He rubbed over her clit, and she went right over the edge. Her body convulsed, and her pussy contracted as he gave her another shattering orgasm.

  “I love you,” he said.

“I love you too,” she replied. “My mate.”

Other than dad, mate was the best word he’d ever heard in his life.

  Epilogue

“I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride,” the officiant said, and Brennan took his task seriously, grabbing Fallon and pressing his lips to hers.

All of their guests clapped with vigor, and finally, Brennan let her come up for air. After a quick glance around the room, they sprinted back down the aisle and to the reception hall.

They’d gotten married at a pavilion in Cedar Lake. Their reception was boisterous, as she’d expected. Her sister and her sister’s new tribe had attended the ceremony, but in true Fae fashion, they stood rigidly in the corner and didn’t mingle. That was fine, though. That was just how they were. They wished her well, and that was all that mattered.

In contrast, Brennan’s shifter family ate all the food and hogged the dancefloor. They were good at participating in a party. She had to give them that. Even the DJ seemed to enjoy watching Brennan and his brothers attempt to dance.

After four hours of photos, cake, and champagne, they were finally ready to leave. As usual, Kellan insisted that they take a private plane to their honeymoon in Cuba. Fallon had suggested it, thinking it would bring back memories from their time together there. Then she’d had second thoughts. Cuba was the place that she’d run away to when she thought Brennan was trying to take her son from her. It hadn’t been then, but the thought was laughable now. Brennan was a spectacular father.

They rented the same house on the beach. As soon as they got unpacked, Fallon asked him, “How do you feel about adding a sixth baby to the clan?”

Brennan dropped the suitcase he was holding. “Is this a theoretical question?”

“What if I told you it was absolutely not theoretical?” She hadn’t even considered the possibility, not until she got off the plane in Cuba and remembered that it had been months since she’d had her cycle. Then she remembered the time in Ireland when they’d made love in the potting shed.

Brennan stepped toward her. “Are you pregnant?”

“Yes.” She’d been curious, so she grabbed a pregnancy test. The positive sign had shown up in about five seconds.

He lifted her into the air. “I am so excited.”

  Fallon laughed. “I’m glad.”

“Did you think I wouldn’t be?”

“I thought you might want us to actually have a honeymoon first. Or maybe five minutes where our lives are not total chaos.”

“No. I like our lives exactly the way they are, chaos and all.”

He took her hand, and they walked along the beach with only the moonlight—and each other—for company. He paused in their walk and placed his hand over her stomach. “I didn’t get to start at the beginning with Rowan.” He leaned in and kissed her stomach. “But with this one, I’m going to be there for every little thing.” He laid his cheek over her belly. “Isn’t that right, baby?” He straightened up. “He agrees with me.”

She laughed and pressed one hand against her still-flat stomach. “Hey, little baby. We’re in Cuba right now. I hope you like it.”

  “We have to tell Rowan.”

She nodded. “We can’t wait until we get back.”

Brennan pulled his phone from his pocket. “Let’s video call him right now.”

Kellan picked up on the first ring. “What in the world are you two doing, calling us on your honeymoon?”

“We have some news,” Brennan said. “Where’s Rowan?”

Clara’s face came into view. “I’ll get him.” She returned a few minutes later with Rowan and the other four kids too. “Juliana and Brynne are having a date night,” she explained. “It was our turn to babysit.”

  “Even better,” Brennan said.

The screen shook wildly, and then Rowan’s face filled the screen. “Hi, Momma! Hi, Dad!”

“Hey, sweetie,” Fallon said. “We have some big news. We wanted to tell you right away.” She wondered if his uncles would have placed bets on them having another baby too.

In the background, she saw Clara’s hand come up to cover her mouth. It was clear from her expression that she knew what was coming.

“Are we getting a new trampoline?” Rowan asked.

“Not quite.” Fallon patted her stomach. “We’re going to have another baby.”

Rowan’s little eyes lit up. “A baby!” He jumped up and down a few times. “Wow!”

“We’re so glad you’re excited. You’re going to be the best big brother in the world,” Brennan said.

Rowan jumped again, blurring the video on the phone. “I can’t wait to teach him how to jump on the trampoline.”

“I know you’ll teach him how to do all kinds of flips,” Fallon said. “We have to go. We love you!”

Rowan blew them kisses, and then the screen blinked off. Brennan took her hand and guided her toward the ocean. “Listen to that,” he said. The only sound they could hear was the gentle lapping of the waves as they rolled in.

“You want to have another night swim?” she asked, thinking back fondly on how they’d made love in the water.

“Let’s do it,” her husband said, lifting her up in his arms.

  “Uncle Liam! Catch me!”

As the sun set in Cedar Lake, Texas, Liam Murphy caught his nephew, Declan, as he sailed through the air. There were no guests around that day, so they were letting Declan jump from the top of the swingset onto the trampoline and then over the netting into Liam’s arms. Declan was seven years old now, and he was getting stronger by the day, just as a young dragon shifter should.

Usually, Liam loved watching his nieces toddle around while his nephew ran and jumped, but today, on Liam’s thirty-second birthday, watching the kids play was a knife through the chest. He was happy for his brothers Kellan and Quinn. He really was happy for them, but he wanted what they had—he wanted to be a father.

He loved hanging out with his two sisters-in-law, Clara and Juliana, but when it came to dating, he’d never met a human woman that he’d been compatible with. Yes, human women were attractive, smart, and fun to be around, but he’d never been able to forge a deep connection with any human woman he dated. He suspected it was because they were so terribly fragile. He didn’t know how his brothers handled knowing how physically vulnerable their wives were.

The truth was, dragon shifter females weren’t totally invulnerable, either. Liam had learned that the hard way fifteen years ago in his home country of Ireland when he was only seventeen years old. His clan had an ancient pact with a group of witches, but the witches turned on his clan. In the process, Liam’s parents had been killed, along with most of the elder shifters.

Liam had fled, along with his closest friends, Kellan, Quinn, and Brennan. The four of them weren’t biologically related, but they might as well have been. They’d vowed to stick together and become true brothers, even as the rest of their clan scattered across the globe.

Now, fifteen years later, Texas was home for all three of them. He missed the Cliffs of Moher and the Irish coast every day, but he had a thriving law practice in town and a nice house. The memory of the attack had faded, and he’d thought maybe the four of them had escaped the curse of the witches forever.
