“Did you have fun singing on stage?” I ask Paisley when we get backstage to meet up with Reese.
“Yes! Did I do good?” she asks me.
“The best!” I tell her, bopping her nose. She’s just so darn cute. “Maybe you can be a professional singer like Reese when you’re bigger.”
We visit with Reese while the stage is stripped of her equipment and the new stuff is set up. The members of Lady A all come out, readying themselves for their upcoming set.
“Hey, y’all.” Hillary Scott, the lead female singer from Lady A, stops at our group. Reese introduced us to them earlier, but I’m still a little tongue-tied being around some of my favorite singers. “We’re going to be filming some special shots tonight for a music video; we need some volunteers and are wondering if any of you would be willing to help us out. We just need two of you, preferably a couple,” she says.
“We can do it,” Lee pipes in. I turn to look at him in shock.
“You want to be in a music video?” I ask him.
“Sure, why not. Sounds kind of fun,” he says, giving me a quick peck on the lips.
“I guess we’ll do it,” I tell her, still not sure what the hell is going on today.
“Perfect!” she says, clapping her hands excitedly. “Just hang out back here; we’re going to do it after our opening set; that way, if we need to do a second take, we can.”
“No problem, just tell us where you need us and what you need us to do,” Lee tells her.
Before we know it, Lady A is going on stage, knocking their opening set out of the park. While they’re on stage, their manager comes over and gives us a few pointers on where to stand and what they need us to do. It all sounds simple enough.
Once their song ends, we’re shown onto the stage. “We’ve got some special guests with us tonight. Please welcome, Lee and his lovely girlfriend, Allison,” Hillary says to the crowd.
We both wave to the audience; my nerves are turned up to one thousand with all the lights and eyes on us. “We might have told a little white lie to Allison to get her up here,” she’s saying, but I don’t quite register her words. “I’ll turn things over to Lee to fill her in on why they’re up here with us tonight.”
Hillary hands over a microphone to Lee, and it all starts to make so much sense. Him acting off all day, constantly checking his phone. It was all to set this up. Tears burn my eyes as he looks so lovingly into them.
Three quick squeezes to the one hand he holds help calm me as he brings the microphone to his lips.
“Allison, sweetheart,” he says, and I can hear people whistling and cheering in the background. I’m doing my best to focus on what he’s saying to me at this moment. “With just one kiss, you changed my life all those years ago. Every day I get to spend with you by my side is the best day of my life. It might have taken me a while to figure that out, but I’m so glad I finally did. I can’t imagine my life without you in it. Will you marry me?” he asks as he drops to a knee and opens a ring box that I have no idea where he was hiding.
“Yes,” I tell him on a sob. My tears have started to leak down my cheeks, but I don’t care. All I care about is kissing this man who finally gave love a chance, finally gave us a chance at our forever.
With one final kiss, we find our way off the stage to the cheering of the crowd and the opening chords of “Just A Kiss” by Lady A.
