“I have to do it! You know I need to do it, I’m not going to stop.”

“There’s no way, you shouldn’t do this. Just stop before you get hurt.”

“Well there’s no way I’ll know if I don’t,” I yelled keeping at least 10 feet in front of Parker trying to lose him.

“Please don’t you’re going to get hurt,” he replied.

“I don’t care if I don’t find out I’ll be hurt. Anyways so I gotta know.” I saw behind my peripheral vision he had stopped. Good.

“You’re getting flustered by a rumor a bunch of jealous idiot girl lies. Lies by Adrian who may I remind you has been out to get you. I mean I hate Cody but I don’t you want to get him mad and something bad happening for you. If he cares about you he’ll tell you.” I whipped around at him and flung my hands in the air.

“And do what? Watch him slink around another girl? This isn’t the first time he’s done this so you know what I’m going to end this relationship Cody’s not worth it he’s is so not worth my tears so I’m not going to waste them .” Just then I broke into a jog and found Cody.

“Oh hey Deanna.” Cody kissed me on the lips hard then soft then he stopped and backed off like he knew what I was about to say. But then he went to kiss me again and I put my hand up between my face and his.

“No wait.” I said hastily stopping the kiss and then I ran my fingers through my hair “can I talk to you in private?”

“Sure baby.” He put his arm around me. I hesitated but then just went with it and then we walked over to an area where no one was “now what did you want to say to me.”

“Uh trust me this isn’t easy and honestly I’m not sure-,” I cut my self-off because I was sure he did deserve it “ugh Cody it’s over.” His face didn’t change he looked bored not a hint of sadness or shock in his eyes “did you just hear me?”

He put up his hand and gave a shrug then a laugh “yeah I heard you what you want me to do cry” he raised a blonde eyebrow, “come on we both knew this day would come eventually right?”

“Well duh.” I waved it away trying to hide the sarcasm in my voice.

“Oh come on Deanna get your head outta the clouds. You’re a freshman I’m a senior you really think I ever cared for you?”

“That’s pretty much why I was going out with you.” My face was starting to get hot and my eyes were starting to water I was going to cry not here not now. “Well it doesn’t matter anymore its over” I ran to the girls’ room wiping my eyes and mascara on the back of my hand. When I walked out Parker was standing there he didn’t give me the look he didn’t say I told you so he just pulled me in his arms and let me cry on his shoulder “you were right” I sobbed into the corner of his neck and his shirt.

“For once I wish I wasn’t I’m really sorry.” His voice was soft.

“He said he never even cared about me.” I was still crying pretty hard but he had now calmed me down.

“Well it’s his loss not yours he’s a selfish jerk.”

“You’re probably right.” I looked at his shoulder where I was crying and it had black and grey spots which made me laugh because it was a white shirt.

“Heck yah I know I’m right but I wish I wasn’t. Come on let’s leave I don’t want to be here more then I have to.”

I wiped my face with my sleeve “where should we go?”

“Hmmm I don’t know Roll Haven.”

“If I can even go, I’m grounded.”

“For what this time?” he asked

  “I didn’t fold laundry.” I replied

“Dang you have to do everything around your house and I can see it’s not fair. No wonder you want to move when your 16 even though I’m completely against it.” I raised an eyebrow I was tired of parker saying that.

“Please quit saying that you should understand why I want to move and be happy for me.”

“Well I can’t, you’re my best friend and I’m being selfish cause I don’t want to lose a best friend.”

“Well this mascara is starting to harden and it doesn’t feel good so I’m going to fix myself up because I’m not going to a place where everyone hangs out and looking like crap.” I walked into the girl’s room again so I could wipe off my newly run mascara, and grab a super black mascara tube out of my purse. I put it on along with, black eye shadow and eyeliner. My brown and blond hair was sticking up every which way so I took the brush from my purse along with a headband I had on my wrist I put my hair in a ponytail. But my face still looked out of place only because my eyes were really red not because of crying, that had faded, but why were they tinted red enough to where you couldn’t see my irises’. I walked out cautiously with my hood on so that it covered my eyes.

“What are you doing?” Parker pulled off my hood then staggered backwards. “What happened to your eyes?”

“I don’t know can you just take me home? People will stare at me. Let’s just hang out at my place.”

“Sure!” he sounded a little too eager but he was staring at my eyes and I hated it when people stared and he knew it but I ignored it untill we had been driving for a half hour and weren’t to my house he had insisted I sat in the back and he kept looking back at me every few minutes, but I was absolutely sure he was looking at my eyes.

“Why aren’t we to my house we should have been there 20 minutes ago my house is 10 minutes away from the school and quit looking at my eyes your starting to freak me out.” He didn’t seem to care what I said he just kept doing the same exact thing. He knew something he wasn’t telling me I unbuckled and climbed up front next to him, he looked nervous, I put my foot over the side where the radio and stuff were and I slammed on the brake to make the car stop

  “What the heck.” He yelled.

“Where the heck are you taking me?” I shouted angry that he was keeping stuff from me that most definitely had something to do with me. He didn’t look happy he looked more then not happy he looked steaming mad but he mostly looked defeated and he sat his head on the steering wheel of his car.

“I thought you were different I didn’t want this to happen to you I should have seen it coming.”

“Saw what coming Parker? You’re scaring me.” He just laughed at me into his hands just the slightest chuckle no one would have noticed except me.

“Good.” That’s all he said and I couldn’t take it I was terrified I opened the door and started to run. Before I could get to the tree 10 feet in front of the car he was in front of me he had grabbed my wrist. Tight. “Get back in the car I will explain when we get there.”

“I’m not getting in any car with you until you explain what’s going on why are you being so mean.” I sounded like a 5 year old calling him mean.

“Please, I don’t have time to explain.” His voice was fast and frantic that was the last thought I remember before he picked me up and put me back in his car. I felt tired when he sat me down and soon gave into it not wanting to know what happened next, but nothing must have happened because I just woke up to him unbuckling me.

“Rise and shine sunshine.” My vision was blurry and my stomach hurt I didn’t because I couldn’t so I watched him get out and come over to my side and open my door and lifted me out slowly. I was hardly conscious as he took me in a cave hardly visible from the road.

“Where are you taking me?” I could hardly whisper it but he acted like it was a yell.

“A place you can get better.”

“I’m not sick am I?” I was confused more than ever.

“Not in the way you think you are you’ll most likely survive but you have a slight chance of dying.” I let out a gasp I didn’t want to die but I could als
o tell by his touch he wasn’t going to let that happen nor was he going to hurt me

“you’re right I wouldn’t ever hurt you that’s one thing your right about and when you get in there you’re going to be scared don’t show it or you’ll regret it. You’ll see something scary enough when you walk in.” He sat me down on the ground and helped me to stand up by putting his arm around my waist as we walked inside the cave that was invisible from the road.

“how’d you know what I was about to say?” I asked “and what’s going to-“ my words were cut off by the sticky feel of blood running down my hands. I looked down at them and started to shake all my friends Parker, Daymien, Josiah, Sam and icy where all laying there dead.

“Deanna it’s not real” I heard someone yelling but I couldn’t make sense of the words. I was sobbing when I felt something crawling under my skin like an awful horror film even my scream was higher then normal. “Deanna it’s not real.” I recognized the voice this time it was Parker. This isn’t real? I thought to myself and closed my eyes and when I opened them again I was back in the cave Parker staring down at me looking super worried. Then his face turned a little mischievous I didn’t make sense of it until I realized I was in something wet.

“Ewww get me up.” I screamed my normal girly shrill like my normal self would have done. His smile grew wider and he extended a hand which I grabbed and pulled myself up “could you please explain to me where I am what’s happening to me why I’m here and what time is it?” I said rather fast and not calmly at all.

  “Well first calm down.”

“I’m calm.” I said a little too hastily.

He shook his head “ok first of all you’re not human. Second it’s Friday about 10 o’clock at night and you’re in the cove.”

“No, no, no you can’t be serious there is no way I’m a vampire!” He had started to shake his head before I had even said vampire. “And what did you mean earlier when you said you should have known?”

“I mean you’re unusually white, you’re taller then most average girls your age I mean come on I’ve been dealing with this crap forever, I should have known.” He looked angry at himself.

“Wait are you a vampire too?”

He let out a little laugh “Heck no I am not a vampire never will be never want to be.” He also said something under his breath that I couldn’t hear “but you won’t be one either if you don’t come on.” I started walking knowing there was more then he would tell me about this situation. with every step I took I got more and more disgusted I was soaking wet and my new shoes were getting ruined.

“What do you mean I won’t be a vampire for long?” his smile grew wider he always loved scaring the crap out of me but then went all serious again almost as soon as the smile had been put on his face.

“I mean you’re going to die if you don’t get around more mythics then just me.”

  “What are mythics?”

“Wow you should have been a blonde. Try figuring it out it’s not hard.” I started seeing a bright light that hurt my eyes then as soon as it appeared like so many things today it disappeared.

  “What was that?” I asked

“A sprite don’t let them bite you they’re nasty creatures, evil too.”

  “Aren’t vampire’s evil too?”

“It depends you gotta make a choice.” He pointed me in to another path that abruptly stopped and came to a choice between two paths one filled with fire it looked inviting and warm but the other was ice cold and pushing me towards the one with fire.“This is where you choose but just remember for every choice there’s a consequence.”

“But what if I choose the wrong one?” I don’t want to be evil.

“Well then think of what you know and what your heart says you’ll have one choice but can’t make a wrong choice nor can I make it for you.” I understood what I had to do and I walked into the flames that engulfed me I could hardly speak

“I may not know where this goes but it feels right.” I smiled back at to him as I walked until I was in a room filled with people just as Parker came down and was practically on top of me his smile didn’t look right it was twisted and sort of evil looking.

“Welcome to the dark warrior’s ha-ha I’d have never figured you for darkness.” He laughed mockingly

“What? No I’m not evil I don’t want to be.”

“Well sorry you’ve chosen and yeah you do the one thing I don’t get is if you’re evil why didn’t the sprites bite you they’re not really bad they’re on the good side and always bite people who will inevitably choose evil.” He glared at me “follow me now.” I didn’t move he was never on my side it was all an act “I said come on.” He grabbed my arm tighter and more brutal then earlier I tried yanking my wrist but couldn’t get it back and he started to walk and pull me forward with him.

“You promised.” I looked up at him

  “Promised what?” he sounded annoyed

“You promised you’d never hurt me.” I felt betrayed again.

“Yeah well people lie.” He pulled me harder toward the way we came until we were back to the choice tunnels “stand right here.” He demanded but I just ignored him and tried to walk away but this time instead of my wrist he grabbed my side and squeezed it as he pulled me over if I struggled his grip would get tighter.

“I’d rather die then be on the side of evil.”

“Well then I’m doing you a favor if you can’t go to this side you will die so you can either be on both sides or neither now.”

“What are-,” he pushed me and I fell backwards and landed on a patch of ice that cut my arm. It felt different like something was off but I decided if this was the good side if it didn’t kill me I might as well keep going. I was walking till several sprites came up to me and were in my hair making it light up. I was met at a gate that the dark warriors didn’t have.

“I’m Kayla.” She said in a in charge kind of tone, “and how is it you managed to weasel your way in here? Why you chose dark warrior am I not correct? Because if I am you should be dead there are no second chances and yet you got one.” She looked totally dumbfounded, then she looked me up and down “ah you are a half breed demonic or angelic either works you’re a cross between a mermaid the most pure form of goodness, and a vampire the most demonic and vile mythic I’ve never seen this in all of my years the gates opened but I hesitated and decided not to go in.

“I don’t want to be a mythic!” I yelled and instead of staying I ran out of the tunnel and out of the coven. I refused to make a choice. That was the last thought I remembered before I started to cough blood it got worse the farther I got away from the coven. Until one finally knocked me over if I was coughing blood I knew I didn’t have long left and I passed out. I was shocked to wake up with Cody and Parker on different sides of my bed and my other friends at the end of my bed I hadn’t noticed but I had scooted closer to Cody.

“Hey can I have a minute with Deanna?” Parker asked every one practically kicking them outta the room I grabbed Cody’s arm

“Stay please.” I whispered to him.

“Parker wants to talk to you I’ll be out in the hallway shout if you need me.” He looked a little sad but he walked outta the room and Parker cut his nice guy look and it went to pure distain

“How in the heck did I get here?” I sighed.

“Cody found you passed out on the sidewalk and called the hospital I would have just left you.” He gave a chuckle.

“What did I do to deserve this?” I cocked my head “and why aren’t I dead or coughing blood anymore?”

  “Just because I’m here.”

“And you’re here why?” I said sarcastically. “If you hate me so much why not just let me die.”

“Who said I hate you I just don’t see the point in saving someone on the opposite side then me just one more person against me.”

“Well in case you haven’t noticed I was your best friend until you started acting well evil and rude and then started hurtin
g me, and your wrong I haven’t picked a side if you would have kept your promise I wouldn’t have started hating you now I don’t want to see you again ever.” I had finalized his thoughts but his face had changed he looked like the old Parker I had known he didn’t look mean he looked a little sad but that was Parker. He could always change his expressions and act any mood he wanted.

“By the way I never did answer your question I am a fallen angel and you’ll have to suffer me for a little bit because if I leave you’re going to die.”

“Ugh fine but you better not try anything you’ve lied to me so much there is no trust. Now would you please let the others in now?” he winced like I had hit him but he did as I asked and walked to the door and opened it and scowled as Cody walked in

  “Everyone headed out. I’m sorry.”

“No its fine I’d rather not be crowded by that many people.” I gave a little chuckle because Parker absolutely hated Cody and they were the only two in the room besides me

  “What’s funny?” Cody asked

“Nothing.” I replied my smile widened “Cody can I talk to you for a minute?” I gave Parker the get out look and Cody looked at me in a sort of nervous way.

“I guess?” Parker walked outta the room

“So you never cared about me at all?” I asked before I could rethink this he looked away then looked back at me.

“Gosh Deanna this is exactly like you why can’t you just let this alone.” I laughed because that is always his way of avoiding a question.

“I know you well enough to know that’s your avoiding the answer just admit it you did have feelings for me and you did the stupidest thing anyone in a relationship could do.”

“See there it is you always do this you say you want to know stuff but you just can’t handle it.”

I laughed a little trying to get him to loosen up “I want to know
