The Rise and Fall of the Barnes Brothers Box Set 1 Page 6

by Nikki Brown

On my 19th birthday I met Ortiz, the owner of the club threw me a huge party that night and Ortiz was there with all his crew. He saw me and told me that I would never dance again and that I belonged to him and he meant every single word. I’ve been living in that hell ever since.

“Why do you do things like that Heaven? You know how he is.”

“Cello, I’m tired of living like this. I’m 21 years old and he treats me like I’m 12. I’m not his daughter. I just wanna live my life.” I whined.

“You think you are going to live any better with that thug in there?” Cello looked through the rearview mirror because I was in the backseat. “He’s bad news.” He warned.

“And Ortiz isn’t?” I asked. “He steals from people for a living, I mean come on.”

He sighed because he knew I was right. Ortiz sold drugs and guns from time to time but the most of him money came from his “jobs.” He would visit all the big cities and rob the up and coming dealers and then come back home like nothing happened. He would go for weeks at a time just scoping them out and then he would strike. They would never know what hit them.

Ortiz had a crew of about 17 and Cello, who normally stayed behind to watch me just in case someone found out who they were and tried to retaliate. I knew he was due to leave for a “job” tonight, so I don’t even know how he knew what the fuck I was doing.

“I thought he left for a job?” I said aggravated.

“Something went wrong and he had to leave before they could even get started. So, he’s back until shit smooths out.” He said and then we got to a stop light. “You know he’s never gonna let you leave him, right?”

“What if I don’t give him a choice?” I said more out of anger than really meaning it but it was too late to take back.

“What is that supposed to mean Heaven? Don’t go doing anything crazy.” Cello said in his thick Dominican accent.

  “I’m just tired that’s all.”

“Well you know he’s waiting for you so it’s gonna be a long night.” He warned.

I sat back in the seat and stared out the window. I hated the situation that I had put myself in. When I met him, I thought that I would be living the good life. I mean that man was good looking and he had money, I just knew that I was gonna be treated like a princess. I thought totally wrong, he had money but that was HIS money and he made sure to let me know that every time I asked for something.

The nigga gave me an allowance every week like I was a fucking kid. Every now and then he would get in a good mood and take me shopping but it wasn’t often. That’s what I liked about Denari. He wasn’t the sweetest man in the world, but he was generous and he let me know that he was a fuck up from the get go.

Denari had a way of drawing you in even if you didn’t want him to. It was like the more you tried to stay away, the more he pulled you in. Like tonight, my plan was to go to the club and leave and meet him somewhere but no, when he saw me he wanted to make a scene and be all up on me. My mind was telling me to leave but I couldn’t, my heart won the battle with Denari every time.

I met Denari about a year ago, I was out with Cello, and Ortiz gave him permission to bring me to the mall. I was walking around while Cello went to the shoe store and as I was walking out of Charlotte Russe, I ran right in to him. He cussed me dirty for making him spill his coke on his fresh all white forces and from that point on I was hooked.

Even though Denari always tried to down play us I knew that he really felt something for me because no matter what he was doing, if I was free he would make time for me. He loved me he just didn’t know how to express it because of how he grew up. After tonight though, I’m sure that it would be a while before I got to see him again.

As we pulled up to the house I took the phone that Denari bought me and put it in the lining of my pocketbook so Ortiz wouldn’t see it because I knew he would look. He had a habit of going through my things and my phone when I went out without him.

Before I could even get out of the car good he started. “So, you think you can make a fool of me?” I dropped my head and prepared myself for a night of him yelling at me.

“It was nothing, we were just dancing that’s all.” I tried to justify my actions which wasn’t a good idea.

“You want to make a fool of me? Is that what you say?”

“Of course not Ortiz.” I said as I tried to get past him but he shoved me in the house which made me fall face forward. I hurried and jumped up because I didn’t want him to attack me. “Please don’t do this.” I begged.

“You should have thought about that before you went out whoring tonight.”

  “I didn’t.” I cried.

“You lie.” He slapped me across the face. “My men tell me that you were all in his face smiling and laughing like you had something going on with him. You tell me the truth.” He slapped me again. “What, you think you are going to leave me and be with him? Huh? Over your dead body.” He slapped me again and I fell on the couch and cried. He kneeled in front of me and grabbed me by my hair and tilted my head back. “I was there when you had nothing, staying in that roach infested apartment wearing clothes from the Dollar Tree. When you were dancing for pennies at Club Nikki’s. How dare you disrespect me like this.” He threw my head back. “Go get cleaned up and pack a bag, you’re going with me for this next job. I don’t trust you here.”

He walked off and I sat on the couch and just cried my eyes out. I hated this life and I hated him more. Why couldn’t I just be happy with Denari? God help me, I can’t live like this.

  Chapter Ten

  Denari

“He’s gonna be fine, sore, but fine.” The doctor told my uncle that was standing on the right of me and Omari to the left. I couldn’t see the other two but I knew they were there.

“Who did this to my baby?” I heard Mama say as she came tearing down the stairs.

  “I’m alright Mama.”

“You are not, you down here all bruised up and stuff.” She looked at me and then up at Omari. “What happened?”

“Well Ma, you know your son, he can’t even go nowhere and not start shit.” He shrugged and walked off.

“Shit wasn’t even my fault.” I said and grabbed my side. “I was chilling with Heaven, dancing and shit then suddenly I was surrounded by three niggas. They started talking shit, and I don’t back down from nobody. I don’t give a fuck if it’s one nigga or ten. It is what it is.”

“Shit ain’t never yo fault, is it?” Kayson said from the corner. I couldn’t see him but I could tell he had a mug on his face from the way the words sounded leaving his mouth.

“What the fuck would you have done Kayson? Just stand there and let them niggas talk shit to you.”

“You know what the fuck I’m talking about D, who the fuck is Heaven?” He asked and I rolled my eyes. He got on my got damn nerves, nigga always thought he ran something and didn’t run shit but them big ass lips of his.

“I don’t want to hear that shit.”

“Nah, tell everybody why the fuck them niggas surrounded you?”

“What he talking about nephew.” My uncle asked.

“You know that nigga Ortiz?” I asked and he nodded his head. “Well Heaven is his girl but she ain’t happy and I’m about to take her from him.”

“You telling me that all of this shit was over a bitch?”

  “Man, don’t call her that!”

I defended her and I didn’t know where that came from because hell I’ve called her worse. I didn’t want to be in a relationship, but I did care about Heaven. She knew things about me that only my brothers and Mama knew, and she still accepted me. Can’t nobody tell me that ain’t love. Still didn’t mean that I was ready to stop fucking around. That just meant that I was ready to make her my main and I just needed her to be okay with it.

“You in love with another nigga’s girl?” Omari asked but I knew what he was saying had more meaning than what everyone else knew. I didn’t give a fuck about Krista thoug
h, I just like to fuck her because of the shit she could do with her legs. Heaven was different and I could see long term shit with her, just on my terms.

“She won’t be his girl soon nigga.” I was getting aggravated. “Y’all niggas kill me, like y’all ain’t never fucked a bitch that had a man already or was married.” That shit was for Kayson. I knew for a fact that he had smashed a married broad before, because I smashed her fucking sister.

“But again, muthafucka our actions ain’t affecting the muthafucking business or each other.” Kayson yelled.

“Okay boys enough. I’ma have to go and get my oil and get to praying. Y’all down here cussing and shit.” Mama said with a frown on her beautiful face.

“Ma you just cussed in the same sentence you talking about going to get oil in.” Omari said and she threw the closed bottle of saline at him that was on side of the bed. My uncle had the basement of his house made up like a hospital room for times like this.

“Shut up Omari, I got this.” She told him.

“Look I didn’t ask y’all to help me, I was good.”

“D, them niggas was stomping you the fuck out.” Jaako finally spoke up. “What you thought we were gonna just stand there and watch you get fucked up? You know that ain’t how we get down.”

“I know man, but I swear I wasn’t trying to start no shit.” I really wasn’t, hell I was kinda upset that they didn’t even invite me out to begin with and I figured it was because I liked to get drunk and act a fool. “Hell, I didn’t even drink tonight.”

“Well I’m just glad that you’re okay. I’m going back up there to entertain these beautiful ladies, I just wanted to check on my baby.”

“Wait is Heaven here?” I tried to sit up but my got damn ribs were sore as shit.

“Nah some big ass dude came and told her to get in the car before he called Ortiz and she told me to tell you that she was sorry but she left with him.”

  “Fuck.”

I knew that if she went with him that Ortiz was gonna hurt her and I didn’t want that. I was really feeling her and I didn’t want anything to happen to her. I looked around for my phone and grabbed it. I tried to call her but it went straight to voicemail. She must have turned it off. I needed to get to her and soon.

“You really feeling this girl?” Omari nosy ass pried.

“She understands that I’m a nothing ass nigga and she’s okay with it.” And that was all that needed to be said.

The doctor took a couple more vital signs and then left out. My uncle helped me to the downstairs bedroom where he suggested I stayed until I felt better. I agreed because I was a little fucked up but it was cool. A nigga was gone bounce back soon. Right before I dozed off to sleep I texted Heaven to text me and let me know that she was alright, and then I hit that pillow and was out like a light.

  Chapter Eleven

  Jaako

It had been a couple of weeks since the shit at the Oak Room. Denari was getting around a little better and his face wasn’t fucked up anymore. I felt bad that I even told him where the fuck we were. Nobody else wanted him to come because his ass like to get drunk and show the fuck out but that’s our brother and I hated to leave him out. I just wanted everyone to be able to chill and have a good time together.

I had never seen Denari give a fuck about anyone if they weren’t family until I heard the way he was talking about ol’ girl. Even though he tried to downplay it a little, it sounded like he had some feelings for her. Maybe that’s what he needed to get right.

“Hey babe, what you doing.” Krista said walking into the living room with leggings on and a tank top with no bra. Times like this made me want to give her more of me but then she would open her mouth. “Did you hear what I said?” See. “If you ain’t have nothing planned, you could have taken your woman out on a date.”

“Well if you shut the fuck up and let me speak, then you would know what I got going on.” I snapped. I didn’t mean to but she was getting on my got damn nerves with that demanding ass attitude. “I’m chilling right now but I know Kayson wanted to chill tonight at his house. He was gonna throw some shit on the grill, but yo’ ass didn’t give me a chance to ask you anything before you come in here with your got damn mouth.”

Hell, at this point I didn’t even want her to go. I would have had more fun by myself or calling Yameka to come with me. I hated I even told her anything, I should have just let her keep talking.

“You didn’t have to cuss me, I was just asking a question.”

“No, you weren’t asking, you were telling me what the fuck I could’ve done. There’s a fucking difference.” Added the curse words just to piss her off.

“Look, I’m sorry.” She said and then slid on my lap like that shit would make a difference. “I just wanna spend time with you Jaako, you always busy and never have time for me.”

“Well Krista, yo’ ass is going about it all the wrong way.” I said and then tried to push her off my lap. She looked at me with a smirk and then hopped up and got on her knees. “Krista chill, I ain’t even feeling you right now.” I said and looked down at what she was doing. She had my dick out and her small hands were moving up and down my shaft. “This shit don’t fix everything.”

“Yes, it does.” She said before she took my semi erect dick into her warm awaiting mouth.

I relaxed and stopped fighting the feeling she was giving me. I watched as she bobbed her head up and down, I could feel the back of her throat and that shit made my toes pop.

  “Fuck, girl.”

She popped my dick out of her mouth and then put just the head back in. I felt her tongue circling the head of my dick and then she would put my whole dick back in her mouth and she repeated that a few times. The sounds of her slurping and seeing the excess saliva drip from her lip and feeling that shit roll down my balls, had a nigga on edge. She licked, sucked and slurped until I couldn’t take anymore.

  “Shit I’m about to nut.”

My whole body got tense and I exploded down her throat and she swallowed all that shit. My toes were scrunched so much them shits caught a fucking cramp. Once I got myself together I looked at her and she was slowly sucking my shit back to life.

“I’m still mad.” I said and she winked and I grabbed her by her hair and pulled her up. She pulled down her leggings and like normal she didn’t have on no fucking panties. I lifted her and eased her down on my dick. “Ride that shit until I ain’t pissed no more.”

“Umm your wish is my command.”

She put her feet flat on the couch and started doing her thing. I threw my head back and enjoyed the ride. Krista got on my got damn nerves one thing I can say, she made my ass happy in the bedroom.

“What up my brother?” I said as I dapped up Kayson when I walked in the back yard of his crib.

“Not shit, I just wanted to chill and have some fucking fun tonight without the shit.”

  “Feel ya.” I nodded.

“What’s up Krista?” Kayson hugged her and she hugged him back.

“Nothing, just chilling.” She smiled. Krista was so beautiful, I just wished her personality and attitude matched her beauty.

“Well the girls are at the gazebo if you wanna go chill with them.”

“Girls?” She said with a questioning look on her face. “You bringing your hoes around now Kayson?” She laughed and I knew Kayson was about to go in on her. I hated when she did that condescending bullshit.

“First off Jenacia is not a hoe, that’s about to be my lady and if ain’t no one here calling you out yo’ name then I suggest you show the same respect.” Kayson said with a straight face and a calm tone which let me know he pulled back out of respect for me. “Bruh I’m going over to the grill.”

“I didn’t me—” Krista started but Kayson just continued to walk away. Krista smacked her lips. “Tuh! That was rude.”

“No, what you said was rude as fuck and if this is how you gone act we can leave right now.” I said getting pissed all over again. “Why t
he fuck you think don’t nobody like being around yo’ stuck up ass. This is why the fuck I don’t invite you to go anywhere.”

“Jaako?” She whined like that was gonna make me take back anything I said.

“Nah fuck that, I meant what I said. Let me know now what you wanna do cause I can drop you back off at home.” I gave her a look that told her that I meant business.

“I’ll go talk to these girls.” She said in a way that let me know that she thought that she was better than they were.

“I’m telling you now, if you show yo’ ass I’ma show mine just so you know.”

I walked off and went to join Kayson and Omari at the grill. I didn’t see Denari so I take it that he wasn’t invited and I was okay with that. Kayson had some big ass steaks on the grill with some ribs and chicken. My brother could throw down on the grill, his ass watched that Grill Masters show that comes on TV. Always talking about going on that shit. I told his ass they don’t let real thugs on TV unless it was The First 48 and they asses was going to jail. He laughed and told me that he was gonna get on there.

“Yo the fuck wrong with that bitch bruh.” Kayson said still pissed. “No disrespect, I ain’t mean to call her a bitch but damn the fuck is her problem?”

“She thinks she run shit and the world owe her ass something and that’s the furthest thing from the truth. Hell I wasn’t gonna tell her, I was gonna invite Yameka instead.”

“About that,” Kayson said and looked at me and then turned his head with a smirk on his face. “I went to pay her today and kinda told her we were chilling tonight and she said that her and her receptionist Lisa was gone stop by.”

“The fuck Kayson.” Omari laughed. “When the fuck you was gonna tell me.”

“Hell, I didn’t know you were bringing the wicked witch of the fucking west with you. I was praying you were gone leave her ass at home.”
