Aberynbane: A former petty kingdom ruled by King Thorendor, whose death cleared the way for the unification of the Kingdom of Donovan.
acrobatics: One of the two divisions of aerina arcana focused on the sole use of the body and mind for defensive and offensive maneuvers. Acrobatics also includes specialized tactics such as evasion and tree and wall running. See also swordcraft and aerina arcana.
Adrithayn: An heirloom sword long held by the House of Valient. See also glyphblades.
aerina arcana: The first of the three arcanae, aerina comprises knowledge of oneself, body, and mind. Aerina encompasses two divisions, acrobatics and swordcraft.
aglanrit: Twisted, stunted trees that grow only in the snow-clad Narendra Mountains of eastern Donovan and southwestern Calbria. The extreme toughness of the wood was valued by the Naren-Dra people for making masks and other items to protect themselves from the cold.
Agnesci: In Messengian religious tradition, the Agnesci were one of the two original peoples created by God. They originally inhabited the southern continent. See also Almerics.

Almeria: The continent to the north of Pemonia. Also known as the Old World. The collective inhabitants of Almeria are known as Almerians.

Almeric Empire: The first unification of the Almeric peoples. Founded by Lord Wilhargant in the year 1, marking the beginning of the Second Era.
Almerics: In Messengian religious tradition, the Almerics were one of the two original peoples created by God. They originally inhabited the northern continent of Almeria and later founded the Almeric Empire. See also Agnesci.
Alpenon Ministry: A southwestern territory of Donovan. The Rugens and separatist rebels of western Alpenon call it Durgensdil.
alterlocum: A metallurgical method of promoting specific properties within alloys used for weapons and armor. The dissolving solution removes impurities in the metals and replaces them with desirable materials that fuse in the voids left by the impurities.
Ambardil: A free city in Alpenon Ministry, Donovan.
anchiclade: An ore named after the Anchiclade Mountains of southwestern Calbria from which it was mined. The ancient Rahlampians alloyed the ore with bog iron to forge windrazor swords, which were exceptionally thin, light, strong, and resistant to rust.

arcanae: The plural of arcana. Used to refer collectively to the three ancient arts: aerina, chemina, and machina.
Arcodum: A shrine island on the coast of Arukia that was converted into a prison tower where many Arukans were imprisoned after being defeated by Marshal Hilsingor during the First Crusade.
Armagnon the Pocked: An ancient king of Donovan long considered by many Donovards to be their weakest king, until the reign of Erech Avaleau.
Arukia: A region of Almeria that was home to the
Arukan peoples and kingdoms.

Barres Ministry: A northeastern territory of Donovan.

black adder: Giant snake of the Black Forest of Ondirhar in central Gallerlandia known for its potent venom. The adder’s venom and antivenom blood were two ingredients used by the Hrals to create a tonic that caused their turserkgyn fighting trance.

Brintilian Empire: An Old World empire that began its rise to power around the year 2010. The Brintilians oversaw the first restoration of Old World civilization after the tumultuous periods following the collapse of the Almeric Empire. After the Brintilians reconsolidated the Old World kingdoms they led the Age of Exploration to the New World of Pemonia.
broadblade swordcraft: A school of swordcraft originating from northern Calbria and emphasizing crushing attacks with an unusually broad-bladed sword that must be strapped across the user’s back when not in use.
Bronhildia: An ancient tribal realm in modern Hanovel Ministry, Donovan previously inhabited by the Bronhildi.
Burgbud War: A brief conflict in central Donovan between the Houses of Reimvick and Ganymyd sparked by the latter’s attempt to reacquire ancestral lands in Wallevet Ministry. The Ganymyds’ defeat marked the end of their rule of Lundwynland Ministry.
Calbria: A large kingdom in central Pemonia. The people of Calbria are known as Calbrians.
Calbrian Sea: A large sea in northern Pemonia nearly completely bounded by Calbria and Donovan but connected to the Edinon Sea via the Strait of Delnollen.
Candlestone, Order of the: A secretive order founded in 2270 by rebellious Brintilians and natives from across western Pemonia. The Order sought to undermine the expansion of the Brintilian Empire into the New World.
Cantrileme: The capital of Alpenon Ministry, Donovan.
castellan: The governor or captain of a castle or fortified town.
Caval: A county in Delavon Ministry, Donovan.
chemina arcana: The second of the three arcanae, chemina comprises knowledge of materials and the methods of extracting essences to use hidden attributes. Chemina encompasses two divisions, alchemy and metallurgy.
cinder: A rough, porous volcanic rock originally mined by ancient Gallerlanders beneath the mountains of Gilgalem. Smiths have long used cinder to make heat-resistant armor and tough weapons.
cindersteel: A very light alloy of cinder and steel primarily used for expensive broadswords and heat-resistant armor that also provides excellent protection against many steel weapons.
Clonmel: An urban estate in Eglamour owned by the House of Valient.
Congregantism: A splinter sect from the Messengianism religion. Congregants do not recognize the authority of the Martinus, have differing roles for their patriarchs, and believe Azra to have been the fourth of God’s Holy Messengers.
Crownblades: The knights dedicated to protecting the king of Donovan and the royal family at Eglamour Palace.
crusader: An honorary title originally given to nobles and knights who joined the First Crusade in Arukia and the Second Crusade in Pemonia. The title was later used to describe knights trained in the Crusader school of swordcraft.
crusader swordcraft: A school of swordcraft that originated in Almeria and was refined in Pemonia. The school emphasizes fighting in coordinated pairs or groups to better withstand the charges of desperate Arukans and native hordes in Pemonia.
Delavon Kingdom: A former kingdom ruled by the House of Valient prior to the unification of Donovan. Most of the kingdom’s old territory survives as Delavon Ministry.
Delavon Ministry: An eastern territory of Donovan.
Delnollen: An island located in the Strait of Delnollen claimed by Donovan, Calbria, and the Almerian Confederation.
devices: One of the two divisions of machina arcana focused on the design and construction of large machines such as cranes, watermills, and windmills, as well as small machines such as pumps and pulleys. See also mechanics and machina arcana.
Dimanus: An Arukan member of the seventh generation of the Order of the Candlestone.
Donovan: A kingdom in western Pemonia. Donovan was originally the second New World colony founded by the Brintilian Empire, after New Lorin Colony. The people of Donovan are known as Donovards.
Durgensdil: The original name of a Brintilian colony that later became Alpenon Ministry. The inhabitants are primarily ethnic Rugens who support independence from Donovan.

Ebronin the Elder: An ancestor of Rugen Emperor Ingother Theudamer.
Eddengard: An inland port on the Elme River in southwestern Barres Ministry, Donovan.

Empire Alliance: A treaty that helped prevent major wars between the Almerian Confederation and the kingdoms of western and central Pemonia, and coordinated trade rules. It was signed in the year 2889.

Enthiri: A member of the fourth generation of the Order of the Candlestone and a great-granddaughter of Rildning and Eniri.

Far East: The eastern realms of the continent of Pemonia, known for volcanic lands, high mountains, acidic seas, and isolated peoples.

First Crusade: The Martinus of the Messengian
Church declared the First Crusade in 2253 to counter the Arukan Rebellion. Marshal Hilsingor led the Rivercross Corps to defeat the Arukans and imprison many of them in Arcodum.
flashoak: A species of oak tree native to Torxil Island east of Barres Ministry, Donovan. The tree completes its lifecycle in two years. The wood, when dried and powdered, is prized by alchemists for various uses.
Forlorn Smithy: A member of the thirty-fifth generation of the Order of the Candlestone.
free city: City-states and small islands in western Pemonia that were once ruled directly by the Almerian Empire. These enclaves later became self-ruled to avoid seizure by the Pemonian kingdoms, but they retained Almerian garrisons to guarantee their protection. The free cities are major hubs for trade between the continents.
Frontier Corps: The first united army of Old World crusaders and provincial legions formed during the colonization of Pemonia to defeat the native tribes. Led by Marshal Hilsingor as the Second Crusade, the Frontier Corps later garrisoned castles across the frontier and were responsible for carving out many new imperial provinces from tribal lands.
furywine: An alchemical drink that causes uncontrollable rage. A stronger version that included black adder blood and other lost ingredients was used by ancient Hral warriors prior to battle. They fought to the death or died from drinking the tonic.
Gaerte Ganymyd: The leader of the Lundwyns and Lundwynland Ministry prior to the Burgbud War.
Gallerlandia: An ancient tribal realm in modern Donovan and Austveeden previously inhabited by the Gallerlanders.
Gardwerp: A city in southern Alpenon Ministry, Donovan.
Garnault: A river in Delavon Ministry plentiful in tuning stones.
Gaton Castle: A fortress in the Brindthum Mountains of western Alpenon Ministry, Donovan.
