Something Reckless (Dirty Southern Secrets Book 3) Page 21

by J. L. Leslie

“I ridin’!” she calls out excitedly.

“This is her new favorite place. Forget fishing; she wants to come train,” Jenna says and takes a bite of her donut.

“The two of them are out here even when we aren’t open.”

Once Kipton and I married, we sat down with Kaler and Jenna and discussed my visitation with Willow. We know since we’re divorced, visitation will never be one hundred percent ideal, and we all want what’s best for Willow. We decided that would be a joint custody arrangement. Equal amount of time with both parents. We rotate every two days for now, and Willow has adjusted well, just like we knew she would.

“I swear if Tauren says he wants to start rodeoing, shoot him.” Helene waddles up to join us. “He can’t have two sports. Racing is enough.”

“Will do,” I reply with a giggle.

“And where did you get donuts?” she asks Jenna.

I offer to go get her one, knowing she doesn’t feel like going over to the house to get one. If I let it be known we have donuts, all the kids would expect them, and Kipton would tell them they need to concentrate on training and not on eating a snack. He’s tough on them, but they enjoy it and I know he does as well.

I bring Helene two donuts and another one for Jenna, knowing she’ll want one. We’re standing there discussing a dual baby shower when Kipton rides up on Charlemagne, Willow seated in front of him.

“All finished with training?” I ask, gazing up at them.

“Yep. Let’s go for a ride,” he says, smiling down at me.

He extends his hand, and I climb on, nestling in behind him and wrapping my arms around his waist. We go at a slow trot, leaving everyone behind as we head out to one of the fields. He slows us down to a walk, letting Willow hold the reins in her hands and teaching her what to do.

We may have been reckless, chose the wrong path a time or two, but life has a way of turning out exactly as it should. Even if it’s not the way we planned it.
