Even though Rory was excited about Ranger’s arrival, he couldn’t get Caroline and her cute, firm little ass out of his mind. He couldn’t wait to tell his buddy, Deputy Lyle, all about her.

The morning after he returned from Houston, he and Lyle met for breakfast at the local café.

“Hey, buddy, did you get to bang any cuties on this trip?”

“You know I did, Lyle. There was one hot little number I would like to get in my bed. She was a stew on my flight home from Houston. What a babe! She said she’s from this area, somewhere. Her name was Caroline. She looked vaguely familiar but I can’t imagine why.”

“Oh, sure, I bet it was Caroline Pissog, and I bet you know her too. At least, you probably know her folks. Mr. and Mrs. Pissog teach over at the high school…Herbert and Sarah Pissog. They tell everybody in town about their daughter, Caroline, who flies for Republic Airlines. The last I heard, she was due to spend some time with them this week up at their cabin, wherever that is. As I recall, she was a hot number when she was in high school. You remember my brother Billy? He was in her class and wanted to get in her pants in the worst way and she was having none of it. He called her one stuck up bitch.”

I wouldn’t call her a bitch, but I bet I’ll get in her pants a lot quicker than any of those high school pricks. All I have to do is make nice with her parents and find out what flight she’s on next. Another trip to Houston won’t kill me.

As usual, Lyle left their breakfast bill for Rory to pay. It had been that way since high school. Lyle’s folks never had a pot to piss in or a window to through it out of. Even working for the police force of Buckton didn’t earn him enough money. He had too many kids. Of course, Lyle’s wife was always knocked up. Just how many kids does that idiot have anyway, Rory wondered. He didn’t mind paying; it helped his image as an affluent horse breeder.

As Rory drove back to Star Farm, he contemplated on how to insert himself into Caroline’s family without either she or her parents being aware of his ulterior motives.

I’ll have to figure out a way to meet her parents. But I’ll have to wait now ‘till I hear they’re back in town. I suppose the best way to introduce myself would be if I could run into them casually on the street. Hmmm, that may be a little too hokey. It would be better if I could casually meet them at the café. I’ll have to ask one of the waitresses if they know if the Pissogs ever come in for breakfast, lunch, a cup of coffee.

As luck would have it, Rory had to come through town on the Saturday after his breakfast with Lyle to pick up a prescription from the veterinarian’s for Ranger. He thought he had what he’d need in the barn, but as luck would have it, there was only a drop left.

He stopped at the café on his way back home to get the information he needed from one of the waitresses. Velda was at the register as he came in.

“Hey, Velda, how ya doin’? Haven’t seen you in a while.”

“Oh, it’s you, what can I do for you today?” she said with a wink as she licked her full, red lips.

“Well, for starters,” he said, leaning in and whispering something in her ear. She was one of his ‘girls’ he could always call on.

  “You are so naughty.”

  He’d actually made her blush.

“Well, what I wanted to know,” speaking in a low voice, “do the Pissogs ever come in here for coffee, or breakfast, lunch, dinner?”

“Why, yes, yes they do. Just like clockwork, every Tuesday morning. Always the same order, them two. She likes her bacon burnt to a crisp, and his is so’s the pig’s still got its squeal. Nice folks. Why, you know ‘um?”

“Well, no, not socially anyway. Well, thanks, Velda.” He started to walk away, looked around to see if there was anyone within earshot, turned and said, “Whatcha’ doin’ tonight, Vee?”

  “Why? You need some ‘help’?”

“Yeah, I sure do, a lot of it. Say eight. The usual spot?”

“I’ll be there. Anything special you’d like me to bring?”

“Nah, not tonight. Just you, babe.”

Rory wanted Velda. It had been a bit of a ‘dry spell’ for him the past week. He needed some play time with someone who wasn’t looking for a ring on her finger at the end of the evening. “Vee,” as he called her, was fun. She was an attractive woman with strawberry blonde hair and a tall, willowy, flexible body.

They met that sultry evening, at the old, shabby motel just outside of town. It was Rory’s home away from home on an evening like that. He never brought a woman to his bed. He wanted to keep this part of his life separate. Besides, he hadn’t found a woman worthy enough to share his home and bed.

Velda was right on time. She knew the routine. He got the cottage and she waited in the dark shadows ‘til he came to open the door.

As soon as they entered the musty, lingering aroma of cigarette and booze room, they fell on the bed in the heat of passion, struggling to remove each other’s clothing.

It had been a long time since Velda had been with Rory. She gasped with pleasure, as he entered her. She’d forgotten what an insatiable lover he was.

  Sixteen

The following Tuesday, Rory made sure he arrived in time to see Mr. & Mrs. Pissog enter the café. He waited several minutes before going in. When he entered, he scanned the café as if looking for a table.

Velda sauntered over with a huge smile on her face, “Why, Mr. Star, isn’t it?” she said with sarcasm and a knowing wink. “I have a table right over here near the window, will that be all right?”

“Why yes, Velda,” he said, playing along, “that table is just fine.”

After he sat down, he glanced around and noted she had seated him just a table away from the objects of his visit. He ordered, waited a few minutes, then, leaning over to where the Pissogs were sitting he said, “Why, aren’t you Mr. and Mrs. Pissog?”

“Yes, yes, we are,” Sarah replied, “and you are?”

“Oh, forgive me. That was rude. I’m Rory Star, of Star Farms.”

“Of course. I thought you looked a bit familiar. My goodness, it has been a long time since I’ve seen you. Probably not since graduation.”

“Yes,” Herbert said, shaking his hand, “I do believe I remember you now I think on it. You were in my class, I believe, but it was some time ago.”

“I was. I had both of you for teachers. I must say I learned so much from you both. Nice to see you two again.” He started to turn away, then, “Say,” he said as if just remembering, “you wouldn’t have a daughter named Caroline, would you? I just came back from Houston a couple of weeks ago, and met this charming, beautiful young stewardess on the plane who said she was from around these parts.”

“Oh, my word! Why yes, we do. In fact she’s been with us for the past week at our holiday cabin up north, and will be here at least another week. She’s waiting for reassignment. She will be flying Republic to one of its new destinations, Georgia.”

Rory noted Mrs. Pissog seemed to be quite taken with him.

“That’s extraordinary. Both from the same town and didn’t even realize it. I’d love to see her again, and have the opportunity to talk with her, maybe have dinner…say, I have an idea, why don’t the four of us have dinner some night this week, my treat. We could go into Port Rock and dine at The Deck.”

“Why, what a lovely idea. Isn’t it, Herb? I’m sure Caroline would love to see you again, too and have the opportunity to catch up on old times.”

Herbert stuck out his hand. “Nice to meet you, son.”

Wow, he’s already calling me son. What more could I ask for?

“But wouldn’t you two have a better time without us old farts?” he said.

“No, not at all, Mr. Pissog. I look forward to getting to know all of you better.”

I especially want to get to know your daughter better. Much better.

“Well,” Rory went on, “shall we make it a date then? How about this Saturday evenin
g?”

“I’m sure that will work out just fine, won’t it, Herb? We’ll meet you at The Deck at, say six?”

“That will be perfect. I eagerly look forward to Saturday evening, then, with the three of you.”

Especially if it gets me closer to the beautiful Caroline and deeper into her…

They continued chatting a few minutes until Rory’s food arrived.

As they left, Herbert said, “Well, Rory, it’s nice to meet you, and we look forward to Saturday evening at six.”

  “As will I.”

Well, that went better than I could have even hoped. One way or another, I’ll have me that woman.

  ~ * ~

Saturday evening couldn’t come quick enough. He had to make sure he did this just right, not come on as strong with Caroline as he’d done on the plane. He knew he’d have to make a much better impression of himself in this situation. He didn’t want to come off as a letch, as he had on the flight from Houston.

He had to work out what he would wear, and whether or not to bring a little nosegay for Caroline and a dozen roses for her mother. Maybe neither. Maybe just a single rose for each…

He could not make up his mind. He didn’t want to be looked at as being too forward either.

Rory finally decided to dress semi-casual for the evening. He called to make reservations, and at the same time, made arrangements for there to be a single rose on each of the ladies’ plates.

He couldn’t contain himself. It was as if he were a teenager again going to the prom with the most beautiful girl in the world. He was almost giddy. Of course, some of that giddiness was the prospect of eventually getting this woman in bed.

  ~ * ~

Rory arrived at The Deck early. He wanted to make sure he got the table he’d requested and there was a rose for each lady. He calmed himself with a shot of vodka and made his way to the veranda to await the arrival of the Pissog family.

Soon he could hear the bubbling laughter of two people, and as the sound grew closer, he could make out Mrs. Pissog and the beautiful Caroline, as the three approached the stairs to the veranda.

At first, there was a look of shock on Caroline’s face. He knew she recognized him from the flight. He quickly stepped up to her, “Caroline, how nice to see you again. I’m Rory Star. I know we met on the plane from Houston, and were never properly introduced. Please accept my apologies for behaving so boorishly.”

This did elicit a smile and a firm handshake.

“Good to see you, Mr. and Mrs. Pissog, again.”

  “Why not call me Herb…”

  “And I’m Sarah.” They smiled.

“Well, I’ve taken the liberty of reserving a table by the window I thought it would be nice, where we can view the sunset and watch the boats as they return from a day of fishing.”

“How lovely, Rory.” As Sarah sat down, she noticed the rose. “What is this?”

“Well, I had to have something special for the two prettiest ladies in Buckton.”

Rory noticed Caroline couldn’t help but smile, and he saw her soften a bit more. “Yes, thank you, Rory.”

Rory’d ordered champagne. So after they’d placed their meal order, the four talked, a lot, and the more they talked the more he could see Caroline warm to him. The sunset was right on schedule, the colors magnificent, and the food delicious.

After dinner, they all went to the veranda for an after dinner aperitif.

The conversation was lively and punctuated with stories from Rory’s high school experience as well as that of the Pissog family, and the interesting experiences Caroline had since becoming a stewardess. The more they talked, the more they each could remember some other little anecdote from times past. It was through these conversations Rory became more familiar with Caroline.

The evening had flown by so quickly, and it was time to leave.

  Rory made his first move.

“Caroline, it has been delightful getting to know you and your parents, but I’d really like to get to know you better. May I be forward enough to ask you here, in front of your parents, if you would go out with me some evening to a movie or dinner?”

He could see the wide smiles on Herb and Sarah’s face.

Caroline seemed hesitant for a moment, then, “Yes, Rory, I think I’d like that.”

  “Is next Saturday too soon?”

“No, Rory, that sounds perfect. I will be leaving the following week for my new assignment flying to Georgia.”

“Wonderful! It’s a date then? I am so looking forward to it already. I can give you a call with the particulars later in the week. Is there a number where I may reach you?”

“Yes, of course, just call my parents’ home number. If I’m not there, they can at least take a message for me.”

“Well, I am so looking forward to that evening…not that this hasn’t been lovely,” he said as he looked to Herb and Sarah.

He could see they were all smiles and excited for their daughter to be going out with one of the richest men in the county, maybe the state, by now.

They said their goodbyes as he walked them to their car, Rory pumping Herb’s arm, placing a kiss on Sarah’s hand, and a chaste peck on Caroline’s cheek.

  Seventeen

Rory was beside himself. A date with Miss Caroline Pissog. He couldn’t believe his luck. Of course, this was just the first step to his optimal goal, getting her not only into his arms, but into his bed. He knew he would be her first lover, and the thrill of that possibility made him almost giddy and want her even more. Rory knew he’d have to do this slowly, to gain her trust, to make her fall for him, with the promise of marriage on the horizon. Not that he really intended to marry her, nor that he actually may, but for now it was a sure fire way of getting what he wanted. It wasn’t that he’d not eventually propose…it would all depend on how she played the game.

Rory called Caroline the following week. He made arrangements to pick her up at five -thirty that Saturday evening. He inquired as to where she thought she might like to go and she said she’d liked The Deck so much, the atmosphere and the views, she’d like to go there. If the weather was great, perhaps they could eat on the veranda.

That was perfect. He was almost giddy. He just had to find a way to optimize the experience so she would consent to more dates, make her want him. He couldn’t rush her. He’d have to take it slowly before she had the ultimate Rory experience.

  ~ * ~

Saturday evening, Rory knew he’d have to play it cool, but hoped she would be more into him then she let on. After all, she’d had to show some restraint in front of her parents.

He picked her up at exactly five-thirty. He greeted her parents as he waited for her to finish her last few minutes of preparation for the date. They beamed from ear to ear. He could tell they were impressed their daughter was going out with the Rory Star.

The first few minutes alone were a bit awkward. Then he explained to Caroline why he’d been on the flight from Houston to Madison. He’d purchased a fantastic stallion for breeding.

Caroline seemed to be genuinely interested in learning more about the horse business and wondered if he had other horses on his farm.

Rory explained he’d been raising horses and training them since he was a kid. He’d had such good luck training his horses, the word had gone out, and he began a business training other people’s animals. Soon he had more horse flesh than he could handle. He loved it though. It had made him a ‘celebrity’ in the world of horsemanship. He had so many clients all over the U.S. he hardly had time to take care of his own animals. Luckily, until very recently, he’d had his father’s help. His dad was more on the business end of the operation, while he did the actual training. His dad’s death had been a blow to Rory, leaving him to run both the business as well as the training of the horses.

Before they knew it, they were at The Deck in Port Rock. They sipped their drinks on the veranda and talked before they were seated.

  Car
oline explained how she decided to become a stewardess, rather than an educator like her parents. She said she’d taken a flight to see her grandparents in Florida when she was a teenager and immediately fell in love with flying. She wanted to do what she saw the flight attendants doing. She was impressed as to how much knowledge they had to have to cover many different situations. It wasn’t all about delivering coffee, drinks or food to the passengers. It was also being able to waylay the fears of some of them who’d never flown, helping a young mom with a crying baby, holding the child so the mom could use the rest room, or just giving her a break. It was also essential to be able to know some basic first aid.

“You know, a lot of people think women in this profession are nothing more than pretty air heads, excuse the expression.”

She giggled. “Well, you know what I mean.”

He laughed as well. “I hear what you’re saying, and have to admit, on my first plane ride I wondered why the stewardess were needed. Having flown so many times, I see now what they do. It is not a job for ‘air heads’.”

After dinner, they lingered until Rory suggested they have a night cap on the deck, since it was such a lovely, warm evening.

As they talked, one thing led to another, his arm easily covering her shoulder, she leaning into him a bit more. He could smell the fragrance she was wearing, and the warmth of having her so, so close, was almost more than he could stand. He wanted this woman. He leaned into her, brushing her raven hair away from her cheek, and he kissed her ever so lightly on that very cheek. She moaned with desire. Rory pressed himself closer to her, his lips kissing her cheek. Again she moved and turned into him.

This time his lips brushed hers, ever so lightly.

She moved closer into him, her head tilted back, and resting on his arm.

Rory saw this as an open invitation. Throwing caution to the wind, he pressed his lips to hers, tasting her mouth. He heard her gasp. Pulling back, he looked into her eyes and saw the unspoken need. It was then he kissed her again. This time he held her in his arms as she moved closer into him. He could taste the wine on her lips. There was no rebuff.
