Remind me to never be too proud.
For up in the sky, great butterfly,
Is where dreams always come true.
Never let me leave the heavens, great butterfly,
Allow me to remain here with you.
When she finished, Nathaniel kissed her. “That was beautiful,” he said. “As it always is.” He brushed back a strand of her hair. “Should we return home?”
“In a moment,” she replied. “I want to look at it one more time.”
She looked up at Scarlett Hall, a home that stood as a beacon of hope. Eleanor had warned her that there were those who would do anything to try to take it away, and Harmony had seen that firsthand.
Yet, she had kept her promise to her mother-in-law, and to herself. She would do whatever it took to protect her family, and by taking Isaac’s life, she had done just that. It was a decision that at times kept her awake late at night, yet the loving touch of her husband took away the fear. By the morning, life began anew, and the nightmares of the past were left where they belonged — buried deep beneath the ground in an unmarked grave.
A new generation would reside at Scarlett Hall, and if Eleanor’s prayers and Harmony’s dreams were answered, no more secrets would be revealed. Instead, the journal in which Harmony wrote would contain nothing but stories of happiness and the love she had for her family. As more children came, new songs would be sung.
The grand gardens in which Nathaniel had often played as a child with his sisters would be filled with new voices, laughter, and most importantly love – all that which made a family strong.
And it was with that love that the family of four returned to the carriage and made their way home to conclude another wonderful day. Together.
Author's Note
I hope you have enjoyed the Secrets of Scarlett Hall thus far, beginning with Isabel’s Story in Whispers of Light, followed by that of Hannah, Echoes of the Heart. Then we learn more about Juliet in Voices of Shadows Past and Annabel in Silent Dreams. A new character, Miss Rose Skylark is introduced in Songs of Yesterday. We then learn more about Amelia Parker, daughter of Eleanor’s sister, in Vows of Honor. Next, Juliet returns to Scarlett Hall in Ballad of the Innocents. We then meet Nathanial’s bride-to-be, Harmony, in Harmony of the Soul. That is then followed by The Cry of the Baroness, the last in the series. For now.
And don’t forget the prelude, A Lady’s Promise, which is Eleanor’s story. You can download it for free from my website: www.jennifermonroeromance.com.
I have come to love all of the characters at Scarlett Hall and have thought of them as my family. It is my greatest hope that you, too, have come to love - and hate if that must be the case - everyone associated with this series. I will miss them all terribly, but you never know, we may get the chance to revisit this intriguing family to see what the next generation is up to.
