by Desiree Holt
“Easy, babe. Must be all the excitement, but I’m pretty close to the edge.”
“Me, too.”
Then she wrapped her lips around him and began a steady up-and-down movement, dragging her teeth against the soft skin with each upward stroke. He was hard as a spike, the soft, velvety head swollen and, as she licked its surface, she captured beads of liquid with each stroke of her tongue. When she wriggled her hand between his muscular thighs and cupped his balls, he nearly came off the bed.
“That’s it. We’ll take the slow stuff later. Right now I just want my dick inside you.”
In one smooth move, he lifted her and settled her on her back then grabbed a condom from the nightstand, and even managed to roll it on with one hand. Sliding his hands beneath her ass and lifting her, he drove into her with one hard, swift stroke.
Ohmigod!
At once, Cassie wound her legs around him to pull him tight to her body. When he began the steady thrust and retreat movement, she was right there with him. He filled every inch of her, and the guttural, erotic things he murmured in her ear only drove her need higher. It seemed as if it only took seconds before they climbed that peak and exploded together, his cock throbbing and pulsing inside her, her walls spasming around him.
Slow and steady, the tremors subsided, and his cock relaxed inside her. It seemed forever before he eased himself from her body and went to dispose of the condom. Then he was back beside her, rolling her against him, sprinkling kisses on her forehead and cheeks and cupping one breast in a palm.
“I think we set some kind of record for speed,” she giggled.
“No shit.” He laughed, too. “Later, we’ll take it long and slow.” He kissed the tip of her nose. “But, first, I want to talk to you about something.”
“Oh?” She frowned. “Should I be worried? Are you leaving?”
“Only if you leave with me.”
“I don’t understand what that means.”
He placed his fingers beneath her chin and tilted her head up so she was forced to look at him. “When I came here, I was a fucked up mess, sure my life was over even though I was still breathing. I couldn’t be a SEAL anymore, and that had been my entire life. Without it, I was nobody. And I was sure no woman would want me.”
“Sam,” she began, but he shook his head.
“Let me finish. When you came into my life it was as if a hand was brushing all that away. All that stupidity, the business with Patrick. Everything. You made me feel human again, like a man, like somebody. I can’t say just when I fell in love with you, but now I can’t imagine being any other way. And today showed me that I can still make valuable contributions even if I’m not on active duty.”
“I fell in love with you, too, Sam, without even realizing it. So, whatever you want to do, count me in.”
“Even if it means leaving here?”
She thought for a moment. Castile had been a great place to get her act together and hide from Patrick, but now she thought she might be ready to move forward.
“Even if,” she told him. “But what do you have in mind?”
“Scooter told me they’re always looking for instructors for SEALs at the base in Coronado. I might not be able to go to war, but I can teach others to. There are things I can do that work around my injury.” He studied her face. “Think you’d like it in California?”
“I’d like it anyplace you are. And, Sam, I have a portable occupation. I can be a therapist anywhere. In fact, I’ll bet they’re even looking for them in Coronado, what with all the SEALs returning from battle.”
“Exactly what Scooter said.”
She frowned. “Margie and Bruce could come and visit us, right? I don’t want to lose my new best friend.” Then she grinned. “And her delicious pastries.”
“Nor should you. Those two were great today.” He paused, touching her cheek and pinning her gaze with his. “So, what do you think about everything? I love you, Cassie Malone. I never thought I’d say this to anyone, Ever. But then I met you and n ow I can’t see my life without you. Will you come live with me and be my life?”
She smiled, and brushed a kiss over his lips. “I love you, too, Sam Alvarez. And I’d love to be your life. Your wife. Your everything.”
“Then it’s settled.” He shifted their positions again so she was flat on her back. “Now we can get back to business.”

From Desiree
People ask me all the time if I always wanted to be a writer. I don’t know if “always” is the word but certainly for all the years I can remember. I was a voracious reader, as were my mother and sister and books held a royal place in our home. The funny thing is I always thought I would write mysteries because that’s what we all read. I didn’t even read my first romance until 2004, when I was sitting with the same three chapters of a mystery on my computer that had been there for three months. But then my eyes were opened and they never closed.
Submitting that first book was scary, but after a lot of rejections you stop being scared and become determined I’m glad I never gave up, because I am having the most fun in my life I have ever had. (Well, maybe not ever! LOL!) So here I am, with all these titles under my belt.
Writing a book is a solitary experience but it never comes to the bookshelves, virtual or other, alone. For me it starts my treasured friend and beta reader extraordinaire, Margie Hager, who has the best eagle eye in the world. Thank you, Margie my love, for all the hours you put in to help me bring my stories to life. And for your friendship, which is a highlight of my life.
Thank you to my family. They are the greatest. Do they read my books? Absolutely not! But they are the best public relations team in the world. From my daughter Amy who tells all her clients about me to my son Steven who makes sure he lets everyone he knows when I have a book released to my younger daughter Suzanne who is always there when I need her. Guys, I could not do it without you. If you see me at a convention, these days Steven will not be far from my side.
My cats, of course, keep me company while I write. And you all have seen pictures of Bast at the keyboard with me. She thinks she should get co-author credit!
Thank you to Frauke Spanath, Croco Designs, who puts up with me with such good humor and never fails to deliver outstanding covers and graphics.
To Maria Connor, author VA extraordinaire, who knows how to do everything and does it with a smile.
Thanks to all the people who let me pester them for information, on all the different topics I tackle, from SEALs (especially former SEAL Jack Carr) to Force Recon Marines to Delta Force soldiers to the sheriff’s deputy and so many others. For you and all the others, the time you continue to give me is very special.
Last but very far from least are all of you, my wonderful readers, who are making my Desiree Holt Reader Group Facebook Page such a. great place to be.. give me the inspiration to push ahead.
I love you so much. You are my extended family and I send you all many hugs.
There are a lot more stories to come. Please stay tuned.
I love to hear from my readers. You can write to me at [email protected] I hope you will do that.
Where else can you find me?
First and foremost, I hope you will join my reader group. It’s a fun place to be.

New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author Susan Stoker has a heart as big as the state of Tennessee where she lives, but this all American girl has also spent the last fourteen years living in Missouri, California, Colorado, Indiana, and Texas. She’s married to a retired Army man who now gets to follow her around the country.
She debuted her first series in 2014 and quickly followed that up with the SEAL of Protection Series, which solidified her love of writing and creating stories readers can get lost in.
