I pulled back only far enough for us both to gasp for air. “Please tell me we can go back to your place. Right now. Please, Nick.”

He stood up quickly. Very quickly. He hauled up to my feet and started to walk, all in one motion. “It’s a ten-minute walk from here. Let’s go.”

I laughed, discreetly trying to adjust myself with the hand he wasn’t holding. Not discreetly enough, based on the small smirk he didn’t bother trying to hide. That smirk that would’ve been far more impressive if he didn’t also quickly adjust himself when he stepped in front of me onto the steps.

A quick but uncomfortable seven minutes later, we walked into the foyer. I honestly couldn’t remember a thing about it, or the elevator, or his apartment. But I knew how cool his hands felt against my overheated skin when he pulled my t-shirt over my head as soon as his apartment door shut. How he ripped his tie off before I even had a chance to reach for it.

As I fumbled with the buttons of his shirt, he walked backwards down the hallway and pulled it out of his pants and started with the bottom buttons. We left a trail of shoes and socks in the hall. Once he backed up against the bed, he messed with my belt and then broke away to say. “I don’t have the patience for this. Get your clothes off.”

I didn’t even hesitate, ripping my shirt over my head, then pushing my jeans and underwear down in one go and kicking them off. As we grabbed hold of each other again, we tumbled to the bed in a mix of kisses and bites and fumbling hands.

While I moved up the bed, Nick began kissing his way down my chest, pausing at each nipple to suck and nip. The heat of his mouth moving slowly down my stomach, kissing and licking, was driving me insane. I reached for the headboard to stop myself from grabbing his hair. He paused, and I could feel his warm breath so damn close to my cock.

“Open your eyes, Ky. I want you to watch me. I have been looking forward to this for so long. Don’t close your eyes.”

One long lick from the base of my cock to the tip, and my dick jumped and bumped him on the chin. He chuckled as I struggled to stay still. His slow licks around the head, watching my cock slide slowly between those wet pink lips into the most exquisite warmth I had ever imagined, already had me balancing on the edge. He moaned with pleasure as he sucked and pulled back to my tip. I was completely enraptured, and the noises he was making sounded like he was enjoying this almost as much as I was. Though he took me deeper each time, I struggled not to push up into his mouth, to not grab his hair. My breathing picked up with his pace, and I knew I was too close.

“Stop, wait, stop,” I panted. He let go immediately, a look of concern on his face. “Too close, too fucking close. I don’t want to finish without you. Come up here.”

He climbed back up my chest, kissing and nipping as he went. “You weren’t going to finish without me. I was just as close as you were.”

I kissed him once on the lips and asked breathlessly, “You can come from giving a blowjob? You weren’t even touching yourself.”

He moaned and moved his lips to that magic spot just below my ear. “No, but I was getting really fucking close. Besides it’s never been like this before. It’s never been with you before.”

Sucking on my neck, he lined our cocks up and started rocking, not enough for us to get off but enough to keep me close to the edge.

  “Lube,” I muttered. “Need lube.”

Nick leaned across, opening the top drawer of the bedside table, and came back with the lube bottle. Pouring a small amount onto his hand and too impatient to even warm it first, he reached for his own cock. He hissed, “Cold, fuck.” Then his fingers closed around the base of my cock, making me jump. His hand ran slowly up and down a couple of times before grabbing both our cocks and holy cow! The pressure of his hand, the heat of his cock.

I reached my hand between us and closed it around his. He was stroking us slowly at first, but it became too much. Obviously, he needed more as much as I did: his strokes quickening, his grasp almost on the edge of pain.

“I’m not going to last,” I murmured, our breathing increasing as our hands moved faster.

His breath hitched, and his whole body tensed. Then the warmth of his release struck me, just before my own orgasm hit me like a train. Squeezing my eyes shut, I continued to pump our cocks though our orgasms until I had absolutely nothing left and we both relaxed into a puddle of jelly.

Nick sagged against me, trying to hold some of his weight on his elbow, until I pulled him against me and held him as tightly as I dared with my free arm. It was minutes before our breathing was back close to normal enough for my brain to function, and I kissed him lazily and slowly across his cheek and temple. Nick shifted to move to the side, and we both chuckled.

“You’re a mess,” Nick told me.

I smiled. “I’m fine with this sort of mess.”

Nick drew patterns on my chest, avoiding our combined cum on my stomach. “Why did you shave?” I paused, and Nick jumped in to reassure me. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to say it was a bad thing. You had hair when we… ahh, the first time we slept together. And you’re not like a bear or anything, so I was curious.”

“Honestly, I usually shave if I’m going out to hook up or if I’m not going to have my shirt on. I don’t know why, just started doing it when I was younger. And that first time wasn’t exactly planned. I had gone to drinks with Ant—I was absolutely not planning on sex.”

His fingers paused for a second before continuing. “I like the hair. Don’t think that means I have any problem with shaved, because believe me, I really don’t. But I like the hair.”

I shifted to look at him, cringing at the feeling of cum drying on my stomach.

“I don’t think a cloth is going to do it. We need to shower,” Nick said through a drowsy smile. The smile was adorable and sweet. Different from his normal smile for other people, different to his beautiful smile that was only for me. This smile was sweet and… weightless. I couldn’t think of any other way to describe it. Weightless.

I didn’t disagree, but I was too damn comfortable to move. And to be honest, I didn’t want this moment to end. He looked warmly down at me. “Come on. You are a mess, and the quicker we get in the shower the quicker, we can get back into bed, enjoy round two, and then go to sleep.”

Go to sleep? I wasn’t leaving?

He must have picked up on my thoughts. “Is that okay? If you want to head home, I can call a car. It’s no big deal.”

  “No, no. I’ll stay. Please.”

Smiling, he dragged me towards the bathroom.

I woke to my alarm in the morning, but it somehow turned off by itself before I had a chance to reach for it. I drifted back to sleep, then woke again when I felt movement. Stretching, I tried to remember what day it was, and as I rolled to look out the window, I froze.

The sight in front of me jump-started my brain quicker than a barrel of coffee. Nick was naked, facing out the window so the light framed what could only be described as sweet, honey-coloured perfection. The early morning sun bounced off his messy blonde hair, and a light glow reflected around his silhouette. Last night came back to me in a rush, right as he glanced back at me over his shoulder. When he saw I was awake, he smiled lazily and leaned over to kiss my forehead.

I tilted my face up in a silent request for more, but he only gave me one more quick peck and stood back up. “I’m so sorry my phone woke you up. I have to get to work. I have some things I need to get done this morning.”

I rolled away from the window so he couldn’t see any disappointment as I stood to gather my clothes. I was hoping for a lazy morning in bed. But given last night was even more than I had hoped for, I couldn’t complain too much. “No worries. I had a great time last night. Did you want me to make you a coffee to take with you? I’ve only got to grab my shoes, and I’m right to go.”

Nick walked around the edge of the bed and reached out slowly, as if he expected me to pull away, and gently ran his hand along my cheek. “No, I want you to listen to
me, rather than assuming I’m kicking you out.”

My eyes darted down to the bed. “Sorry, I just...” I mumbled, trailing off.

He reached up on his toes to kiss me on the forehead and whispered, “Now, you are going to go back to sleep because you have not been sleeping anywhere near enough. You are going to dream about me and what you want to do together later today when I finish work. Then you are going to spend the morning, eating, resting, and eventually, when you are properly awake later, you are going to call me so that I can listen to your voice whilst I try to explain the concept of futureproofing his company to a seventy-year-old Irishman.”

Without any conscious thought, my body responded automatically to the order coming in his sweet melting voice, and I was nodding and slipping my jeans back off. I was asleep before he closed the front door.

Hours later, when I woke again, I laid there replaying the previous night in my head and enjoying the warmth of his bed. I rolled away from the closed window blinds, and after a quick trip to the bathroom, I found my jeans and shirt neatly folded on a chair in Nick's room. I pulled the jeans on and wandered down the hall in search of tea. All of the tea. When I got to the end of the hall and walked into the living area, I stopped.

  Holy. Fucking. Balls.

The whole opposite wall was glass. And beyond the large balcony was the most stunning vista I had ever seen: a completely uninterrupted view across Sydney Harbour. It almost looked fake. So much so I had to open the doors and head outside onto the balcony to check. The cold morning air hit my chest, and I shivered, but I couldn’t be bothered going back to get my shirt. I pulled my phone out and took a photo and sent it to Tim with the text, I think I’m in heaven. Then I called Nick. He picked up, sounding flustered. “Ky, Is everything okay?”

Then I realized he was probably busy at work. “Ahh, sorry, everything is fine. You’re probably busy. I didn’t think.”

That seemed to calm him. “No, no, it's okay. I’m working, but I can talk too. I just didn’t expect to hear from you until later.”

“Umm, I’m standing on your balcony. Jesus Herbert fucking Christ, have you seen this view? Duh! Of course you’ve seen this view—you live here. Why is this the first time I’ve seen this view, is the question. This is mind-blowing.”

  He didn’t answer.

  “Nick?”

“Sorry, just picturing you on my balcony. I like the idea of you in my space. I’m glad you’re enjoying the view. There should be fruit in the fridge for breakfast, but probably not much else. I should have thought of that. I’ll get something delivered—what do you feel like?”

I laughed. “No, no. I’m more than capable of getting myself some food. I really didn’t mean to interrupt. I was so amazed I wanted to share it with you.”

“Thank you. You are incredibly sweet, you know?” He sounded like he was smiling.

“Don’t think too highly of me. Sharing it with you was actually my second thought. I texted Tim first to gloat.”

  Thankfully, that made him laugh.

  Chapter Eleven

When I walked into BrewHaHa on Thursday, I scanned the tables. Tim was flicking through his phone. He glanced up and smiled in greeting, and I signalled to the counter to let him know I was going to order for us. Once we were sitting and sipping our drinks, Tim started rattling off all his ideas for where to take Mum for her birthday and what we could do as a family. We had been going back and forth on this for so long, it was ridiculous. I thought we had settled on a quiet dinner at the Italian place up the road from them, but now Tim was second-guessing—or more like fifth-guessing at this point—if that was fancy enough.

“She deserves to be spoiled. I don’t want it to be a nothing night. She deserves… well, everything. I want to take her away for a few days too. What do you think?. I left a message with her boss about getting the week off, so we’ll see how that goes.”

And that right there is why I loved Tim. He was an amazing stepdad and a great guy, but the way he loved Mum meant everything to me. We agreed to brainstorm something fancier for dinner. We chatted about themes and gifts but still couldn’t decide.

Then the conversation moved to me. He asked me about work, which was fine. He asked about some of my friends, who were fine. He asked about Alex, who was fine. He asked about Nick, who was…

  Tim chuckled. “Well, that’s something.”

  “Huh?”

  “You like him.”

“Yeah,” I grumbled into my hot chocolate, embarrassed, “maybe.”

Tim answering smile was sincere. “I’m glad. You look happy when you talk about him—well, when you stare at your drink smiling like a loon.”

“He…” I shook my head, not sure how to start.

  “He what?” Tim prompted gently.

“You know that feeling when you are tired and sore, and you don’t even realise how much until you sit in a spa, and it is warm and relaxing and so fucking comfortable that you realise you hadn’t even known how tired you were before you experienced how good it could feel?”

  Tim looked surprised.

“Sorry, I’m not great with explaining things like this.”

Tim sipped his coffee. “No. I totally got it. I’m just surprised. I knew you liked him, and I’m really, really glad you are doing something fun outside of work. But that sounded like… more. Is it serious?”

I thought about it before answering. “I’m not sure. I guess it is for me. But I don’t know. We’re exclusive, which is a huge step for him. I don’t think he’s ever even considered an exclusive relationship before, but he says all the right things, and I honestly think he means it, but…”

I let the conversation drift off. Tim, however, should have been a therapist or a police officer because the silence he left in conversations always made you talk. “But I guess a small part of me is terrified I’m a lobster.”

  Now he looked really confused.

“What if I think it is a spa, but it turns out to be a pot of boiling water, and it ends up way too hot before I know it? I know it’s always a risk, but God, I really don't want this to end up hurting.”

The next night, it was a short walk from Nick’s place through the Rocks area to Eric’s place at Dawes Point. We were waiting to cross the road when Nick reached out to hold my hand. He raised my hand to his mouth and kissed it.

“What was that for?” I asked with a smile.

“Because you make me happy. I didn’t know I wasn’t before, but now I am. That simple.”

“Nick.” I just stood staring at him.

When there was a small break in traffic, he pulled me by the hand, and we ran across, dodging a taxi and a bike courier.

I shook my head a little as we walked through to Eric’s townhouse. It was just as fancy as Nick’s, which wasn’t a surprise, but was over the water with its own boat jetty. I had never known anyone who actually lived like this. Although I had been friends with Eric’s brother Eddison, I had never been to his house.

As Nick and Eric said their hellos, I glanced around, marvelling at how beautiful the place was. It was elegant and clearly obscenely expensive but had a more casual feel than Nick’s place. Eric hugged me to say hi and then led me into the kitchen, where I pulled out the two bottles of wine from the cooler I was carrying.

“Beer first or wine?” Eric asked. I was happy to go with whatever they were having, so Eric put the wine in the fridge for dinner and grabbed a few beers. I remembered Eric being an entertaining kid, but really my only interaction with him that week in Noosa had been me trying to annoy him and the occasional story from Eddie, so we didn’t know each other well.

The three of us chatted about everything from the weather to movies to embarrassing moments. Nick and Eric were doubled over with laughter while I explained a job several years ago. I was talking to a woman who had been in a car accident, and she asked me to grab her handbag out of the back of her car before the paramedics took her to hospital. I fumbled around in the car in the dar
k, thinking the car engine was still making a funny noise or something, and then I located the source of the noise and held it up, just as the Fire and Rescue guys turned on the spotlight. So there I stood holding a vibrator with the spotlight on me and an audience of twenty other emergency workers.

I’d dropped it, yelling, “What the fuck is that?”

A middle-aged paramedic said, “Oh honey. That’s called a magic wand. Perhaps you should refer to it as a GPS because, unlike you boys, it actually knows how to find a clitoris. I didn’t know you could get a car charger, though. That is either genius or just plain dangerous. Maybe a little of both.”

I’d stomped away and ordered a freshly arrived probationary constable to go look in the car and find her bag.

By the end of the story, Eric and Nick were practically choking on their beer, and we all wiped away tears of laughter. We grabbed the dinner warming in the oven and opened the wine as I asked about work. Eric and Nick got excited talking about some of their staff and one of the ladies in housekeeping who had her baby last week. Seeing them together was sweet. Nick wasn’t usually overly demonstrative with his excitement, and seeing them bounce off each other, even in his understated way, was nice. This time, I didn’t even feel any jealousy, only gratitude Nick had someone like that in his life.

I started to pay more attention when Nick got a devious look on his face. “Of course, housekeeping is nowhere near as interesting as our bar staff, isn’t that right, Eric?”

Eric flushed a deep red and got up quickly, claiming he needed another wine though his was only half empty. Eric glared at Nick when he returned, but there really wasn’t much intimidating about him, so it had zero effect.

I enjoyed watching the youngest James sibling squirm, so I joined in, leaning my elbow on the table, propping my chin on my hand, and fluttering my eyelashes at him. “Oh, Eric, do tell us about the bartender?”
