Amid sniffs scattered throughout the room, Madison wiped away her own tears and smiled. “But enough of the sadness. Tonight is about new traditions, new happiness, and new friends. Not, of course, that we’re doing away with the old. I couldn’t have survived this past year without my best and dearest friend Genny. She’s been my rock.”
When Madison lifted her glass to Genny and everyone cheered, Cutter slipped his arm around his fiancé’s shoulders and beamed, “She is amazing, isn’t she?”
“Granny, you’ve been my foundation, ever since I was a little girl. Thank you for giving that same firm and loving foundation to my children. Mom, Dad, thank you for having the wisdom to allow me to spend my teenage years here with Granny Bert.” She lifted her glass to each of them in turn.
Her attention settled upon Brash, and emotion overcame her again. “And this man right here… What can I say? There are no words. But in case you missed the gorgeous ring on my finger or this big, crazy smile on my face, I am beyond thrilled to say that Blake, Bethani, and I are marrying Brash and his beautiful daughter Megan.”
Brash stood and slipped his arm around her waist, sweeping her into a quick, hard kiss. He stayed beside her as the applause died and she concluded her speech.
“I can honestly say that I have never been happier in my entire life, and I owe it all to the people in this room. Thank you, dear friends and family, for all that you have given to us.” She hugged Brash’s side and swept her gaze around the room, lingering on the faces of her precious children.
“I can hardly wait to see what the coming year has in store for us! Merry Christmas, dear friends, and the happiest of New Year’s!”
