The men and women who have entered my life whether it were through Hunter or not, they have all shown me when it comes to family it’s not about who you share blood with but rather those you’ll give your life for as well as stand up to protect.
This is what I dreamt about for years.
“Mommy, look Daddy,” Huntson squeals, pointing at his daddy as Chaz starts playing the song I requested him to play with Bethany singing the lyrics.
After everything that happened, Bethany, Alexis, Mackenzie, and I grew extremely close. You don’t go through tragedy without it affecting you in some way and when I’d asked Bethany if she’d sing ‘I’ll Be’ I thought she would say no. She doesn’t like to sing in public but I’d heard her sing with her husband on several occasions in the studio. So when she’d agreed, I nearly pounced on her hugging her as I thanked her repeatedly.
As the first words of the song, begin, I glance down at Huntson. “Alright, baby, time to walk to Daddy,” I murmur and take the first step.
We’d practiced this for weeks but I knew my son, he was a daddy’s boy. Releasing his hand, I allowed him to dart down the path to his dad as everyone laughed.
“Daddy,” Huntson yelled, crashing into his dad, who kneeled down to his level to hug him as he got there. Hunter’s eyes never leaving me as he does this.
“Hey, little man, you gonna stand with me and wait for Momma?” Hunter asks.
“Yep, Momma is pretty,” Huntson announces.
“That she is Hunt,” Hunter says as I get closer.
Once I reach him completely, Hunter reaches for my hand and pulls me closer. “You look beautiful, baby,” he whispers.
“You’re not half bad yourself, mister,” I giggle.
Hunter had offered to wear a suit today, but that’s not the man I was marrying. No instead he was in a pair of black pressed jeans, a white button down dress shirt open at the collar, and the cut, he now wore as a member of the Devil’s Riot MC, the same as each of his brothers.
Twister had told them when Mackenzie was taken, they were a part of the club, it became official when Hunter, literally went on the hunt to find me when I’d been taken.
My father and Terry Nelson had kidnapped me and nearly drowned me, if not for Hunter, his brothers, Dragon, and several other members of the Devil’s Riot MC I’d have died that day.
Hunter ended up breathing life into my body saving me. Unfortunately, I’d lost a baby due to all the trauma. It hurt, losing someone I’d only just found out about. I didn’t know if it was a boy or girl but regardless, it broke my heart.
Hunter and his brothers all of them, held a memorial for our lost baby which helped ease the pain some.
Now as I vow myself to Hunter in front of all of our friends and family, I feel the wholeness within.
Plus, I have a wonderful wedding present to share with Hunter later tonight. After two years, I was finally carrying our second child and couldn’t wait for him to sing ‘Dark Lullabies’ to our son or daughter the way he still does with Huntson. Or better yet, the song he wrote for me.
A song filled with pain yet shows all of the emotion within the soul.
A demon’s song meant to reveal the truth of it all.
In and out.
Only the one who holds the heart can defeat the darkness not just keep it at bay.
I do this for Hunter as he does the same for me.
Love of a demon through and through, no matter the fight it will be worth it in the end.
Author’s Note
Dear Readers,
I hope you have enjoyed the Dark Lullabies series. For me Hunter and Annslee’s story was one of the hardest to write as I wrote for those who know what it’s like to have someone battling the inner demons such as Hunter’s. We all have things in our lives, but I wanted to make sure everyone who read this could feel his pain. What he is going through. Same as with Annslee, life is never easy and these two deserved to find happiness with each other. They are the anchor to one another.
As it concludes it doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing these men as they have become members of the Devil’s Riot MC.
If you want to see more of Finley, check her out in Vex’s Temptation releasing in December. I’ve never been more excited to write something than to work on hers.
Sincerely,
E.C.
If you’re just starting with A Demon’s Song, be sure to check out the entire series from the beginning, A Demon’s Sorrow to get the full story.
Prologue
Chaz
16 years old
“Dude, take a look at the new chick walking into class,” Tanner mumbles under his breath from behind me. Glancing up from the song I’d been working on I tilt my head toward the door. At first glance my heart stopped. Standing in the doorway is the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen.
“Everyone, I’d like you to meet Jamie,” Miss Lawrence announces.
“I wouldn’t mind being the one to give her a tour around the school, maybe show her the locker room,” Hunter chuckles.
“Shut up, asshole,” I grumble and go back to what I’m doing. That is until a shadow moves over me.
“Hi, umm, do you mind if I sit next to you?” the sweetest voice I’d ever heard asks.
“Sure,” I answer her without looking.
“Thanks,” she says and damnit the sound of her voice does something to me. Something I’m not sure how to explain. Well I guess the best way to describe it would be musical. Which brings me to wonder if she sings.
You see Tanner, Hunter, Lex, and I formed a band called Demons Among Us back in middle school. Yeah, might sound somewhat stupid but the name stuck. The name has meaning behind it. The four of us don’t have your usual life. Each of us have demons hovering over us.
Shaking my head to clear it, I don’t need to go there right now. I’ve escaped that part of my life and I won’t go back.
“So, are you always this broody?” Jamie asks, her voice the sound of music to my ears.
Lifting my head, I glance in her direction. “Don’t know what you’re talking about,” I mutter before going back to try to finish what I was doing. This song isn’t gonna write itself. Normally we all work on the songs together. But I’d woken up this morning and couldn’t get the lyrics out of my head.
“See broody,” giggling she opens up her notebook and begins to listen to Miss Lawrence’s lesson of the day. I’m sure I should be doing the same but it’s whatever. It’s not like when it comes down to the test I won’t pass it. I’m just smart like that I guess you can say.
Soon as class is over, I close my notebook and stand, ready to get to the next class.
“So, Mr. Broody, can you show me to my next class?” Whipping my head around to Jamie as she asks her question.
Tanner and Hunter burst into a fit of laughter at her calling me Mr. Broody. Fuck I’m not gonna live that down.
Glaring at her I take in just how small she is compared to me. At sixteen I’m not some lanky teen and this beautiful girl standing in front of me is the size of a pixie. At her smile I sigh.
Finally, I ask “What class do you have?”
“Umm I’m not sure,” she says, pulling out a piece of paper from her notebook. “Here this is my schedule.”
Taking the paper she’s holding out, my fingers graze hers and holy shit it felt like an electric shock running through me.
Who the hell is this little pixie?
Glancing down at the paper I see that her and I have all the same classes. Well fuck. Guess we better get going.
“Come on Pixie, seems we have the same classes,” I grumble.
“Oh, that’s so cool maybe I can sit by you in all of them. Wouldn’t that be great?” Rolling my eyes at her I don’t respond. I have a feeling this little pixie of a girl will become my undoing. The one who will see through the exterior and bring me harmony.

Darkness is where I live even in the
light of day. I don’t care about anyone except those affiliated with my club. My heart was hardened a long time ago, making me good at what I do for my brothers and nothing will ever change that.
There are reasons why I’m so good at what I do, but I refuse to talk about it. Not even when my brothers question me. No one can fix what is broken. She left and isn’t coming back.
That is until fate intervenes, bringing her straight to my doorstep.
The woman who changed me for the worst. She’s the one responsible for gutting me the first time. How the fuck am I supposed to move past this? I have a hard time letting anyone who fucks me over back in, but does she really expect me to let her in passed the threshold?
Can I accept her apology and reasons for her actions, or do I cast her out to the wolves nipping at her heels?
Either way she still has the one thing of mine that will always be hers—my soul.
Tiny’s Hope
Tiny
Life was perfect. I was finally living thanks to Chains. He became my everything as I learned I didn’t have to look over my shoulder constantly. We even started a family with a boy and girl. To me everything was as it should be.
At least that’s what I thought until the past comes to the present.
Can Chains and I overcome these obstacles in front of us?
One that leads us to danger or will he decide I’m not worth it. Only the hope I carry within my soul keeps me from drowning in the heartache that’s in front of me.
Ranger’s Fury
Ranger
Nothing about my life has ever been easy, so it makes total sense the moment I found her would be no different. As soon as I laid my eyes on her, I knew how I’d have the biggest fight on my hands.
Little did I know there’s more to her then I first realized.
People say she’s emotionless, a void, a shell of the person she used to be. However, I don’t agree. I see the raging fire inside of her, desperate to break free.
I wonder what my little fury would do if it all came blazing out, but before we realize it, the past comes to present. It threatens those around us in ways we’ve never dealt with before.
Can I protect her when everything comes crashing down, or will she become the harpy she is?
I suppose it doesn’t matter. Regardless, she’s mine—whether she wants to be or not.
Neo’s Strength
Neo
The day I found her crumpled and shut down from the world, I knew it was going to take a miracle to bring her back to me. It would take all my strength to pull her out of the dark abyss.
But no war is won without fighting and winning the battles before.
Little did I know it would take much more than only my strength to guide her through the dark. But rather my heart as well.
As terror surrounds us, her demons refuse to leave her alone, leaving me crippled with one arm tied behind my back.
Will I be able to save her in time before the demons snatch her from my grasp?
Carrying Blaze’s Mark
Blaze
Never before did I think I would have this again. A family. Now I stand with my little bird and a child we’re raising as our own. Doesn’t matter how he came to us. He’s ours.
Life is better than it has been in a long time.
Or it was until the past comes knocking on the door leaving my woman haunted as she came face to face with demons who shouldn’t be around.
Will Raven be able to handle the weight this will put on her and grasp hold of me as her anchor? Or will the fires of Tartarus reap upon us burning us all alive?
Whichever it is I’ll make sure my bird and son are safe regardless of those who we face.
