After they had eaten, Kadek Lenny took them along the beach to a small pile of rocks carefully balanced on top of each other near the cliff face. Around it lay fresh frangipani petals. Kadek Lenny knelt before it and lowered his head. He brushed away some of the sand from the rocks. “Wayan,” he said.
“I think this must be for his brother.” Olivia nodded at the boy to show she understood.
“Perhaps this is where they found his brother’s body.” Nolan put his arm around Olivia’s shoulder and together the three of them wandered back to the hotel.
Olivia felt sad saying goodbye to Kadek Lenny, but having met him brought her comfort. Before Nolan climbed into the taxi with her, he put his hand in his pocket and pulled out five one hundred thousand Indonesian Rupiah notes. He pushed the money into Kadek Lenny’s hand. The child shook his head and tried to give it back but Nolan refused it, folding the young boy’s fingers around the cash.
As the taxi pulled away they both waved to the boy who seemed to be dazed by the amount of money in his hands.
“How much did you give him?” Olivia grinned at Nolan, meeting Kadek Lenny had raised her spirits.
“About thirty bucks. I’d have given him more but I didn’t want him to get robbed.”
Olivia put her hand to Nolan’s cheek. “I’m so glad we came here today.”
Nolan put his hand over hers, cradling it against his face. “Me too.”
He brought her hand into his lap and held it there. Olivia’s chest grew tight. She missed the intimacy they had. It seemed a lifetime ago that they’d slept together and she wondered if they could ever go back to the way they were. Was this over? Did she want it to be? As she studied his profile while he looked out of the window at the luscious green paddy fields, she hoped they weren’t.
Nolan must have sensed her gaze because he looked back at her. “Livi…” His blue eyes lowered for a moment as if he was unsure about something.
Olivia leaned toward him. “Kiss me,” she whispered.
He looked up and a huge grin appeared on his face. Pulling her closer, he wrapped his arms around her, squeezing her tightly as their lips smashed together.
Maybe it was just the emotional turmoil she’d gone through this last week, but Olivia found she desperately wanted Nolan; even when her conscious tried to butt in and derail her, her body still yearned for him.
They necked like teenagers in the back of the taxi all the way to the hotel and, when Nolan leaned forward to pay the fare, the cab driver gave him a toothless wide smile. “Honeymoon? Yes. Very pretty, lucky man. Very, very pretty, yes?”
Nolan didn’t correct the man and neither did Olivia. She just wanted to have him all to herself, to see if they could find what they’d had before. The ride up in the elevator was torture. They stopped on every floor and people packed in next to them so the only thing they could do was face forward, their fingertips touching as they threw sideways glances at each other.
As soon as they entered the room, Nolan yanked his tee over his head and grabbed her around the waist. His hands went under her sundress and a second later, her panties hit the floor. Nolan grappled with his belt as he kissed her, then hopped on one leg trying to shake his jeans free. He stumbled and hit the bed. “Fuck”
Olivia giggled at his haste but when he was naked, she no longer laughed. Jesus, this guy was straight out the pages of a magazine! His torso was silky smooth, with abs that were practically carved in place. Her eyes swept across his broad muscular shoulders and she admired the huge biceps that could lift her off her feet as if she weighed nothing.
Olivia’s gaze drifted down his body, resting on that delicious part between his legs. She licked her lips and he grinned at her. “You see something you like, Livi?”
She crooked her finger at him, beckoning him to her. Nolan stepped into her and rested his finger under her chin, tilting her face to him. He lowered his voice and it came out as a growl. “You sure about this, baby?”
Olivia rolled her eyes. “Perhaps you should have asked me that before you got naked.” Her hand drifted to his erection and she wrapped her fingers around him. “Does that answer your question?”
A hiss escaped his throat and he picked her up, throwing her onto the bed. The next moment, Nolan was on top of her, pushing her dress around her waist and guiding himself between her thighs.
“God, Livi, I missed this.”
She mewled as he entered her and gripped his shoulders tightly, her fingernails marking his skin. As Nolan began to move inside her, she gazed into his eyes and finally she knew. “I love you, Nol.”
He paused, his face lighting up with a warm smile. “I fucking love you, too, Livi.”
Chapter 17
Nolan
Nolan straightened his tie in the mirror and adjusted his cufflinks. He shrugged the jacket around, trying to get comfortable. Jesus, he needed to get a custom-fitted suit, this one restricted his arms and the shoulders were too tight. Off the rack never fit his body right—his biceps were thicker than most guy’s legs. He went back to the bow tie and fiddled with it again. He felt like an idiot in this monkey suit, but he wanted to do this right.
Nolan and Olivia were attending a big fancy-schmancy New Year’s Eve gala dinner. The tickets had cost him a small fortune, but he managed to sweet talk the organizer into running a fundraising event for him so he didn’t regret the splurge as it would launch their new charity, The Lenny Project.
Olivia and Nolan were still hashing things out, to be honest, but they had come up with the idea on the flight home. For almost thirty hours, they’d sat and sketched out the details. They’d both been keen to do something to remember Lenny’s life and it seemed a no-brainer that they should set up a charity to aid street kids, like Kadek Lenny, in Bali. In fact, that kid would be the first of the children they hoped to support. With the funds they raised tonight, Kadek Lenny would be going to school and he’d have a safe place to sleep in a special children’s shelter. After Kadek Lenny mastered basic reading and writing, the aim was to teach the boy a trade so he would prosper in his adult life.
Nolan had been in touch with the American Consulate and Robert Morrison, eager to make up for the mistake. The hospital had put out feelers within the local and expat communities. Within a day, he’d found an existing small charity already running a similar organization in Bali and passed the details on to Nolan. It was created by a local Balinese woman who was married to an American and Nolan had been in constant communication with her all week.
“Wow, I hardly recognize you.”
He turned to face Olivia and his heart leaped into his mouth. She was wearing a shimmering red gown that swept to the floor, hugging her curves all the way down. “Fuck!”
She looked down at herself and pulled at the fabric. “What? Is it too tight?”
Nolan adjusted his trousers. The damn dress had given him an instant hard on. “How am I supposed to behave myself when you look like that?”
They still hadn’t told everyone about their relationship and he’d agreed to keep it secret for a few more weeks while things settled down. Mama Tessa and Shona were a little fragile at the moment. Bringing Lenny’s ashes home had devastated them all over again.
Olivia grinned back at him and her fingers went to Lenny’s wedding band on the chain around her neck. She did that often. Sometimes when she was quiet and thinking, sometimes when she was nervous or feeling a little sad, her fingers would run the ring back and forth along the chain. But Nolan didn’t care. He knew Lenny was here to stay in their lives and he didn’t want it any other way. Lenny was a guy he’d admired, his best friend, and her most amazing husband. There was always room for Lenny in their relationship.
“Mmm, well maybe it will make sure you don’t forget me when you are dancing with the auction winner.” She giggled.
Nolan sighed. “About that. Do I really need to do this?” It had been Olivia’s idea for the fundraiser. She had sweet-talked him and a dozen of the guys from his gym to be
auctioned off at the gala. The highest bidders won an hour of dancing with one of them. “Surely, Raul is the star prize, and thirteen is an odd number.”
She brushed lint from his jacket. “You are the biggest catch up there, believe me. I might even bid on you myself.” She reached up and kissed him on the lips. “Just to help raise the price.”
“If I slip you a couple of twenties, promise you’ll win me? I don’t want to dance with anyone else.”
“It’s only an hour. We’ll still have time to dance.”
He groaned and squeezed her ass. “Okay, as long as you promise me something.”
“Well, that depends.”
He whispered in her ear, “Promise me you’ll let me fuck you in this dress.”
She gasped and a blush ran up her neck and across her cheeks.
“Mmm, and that just makes me even hornier.” He stepped back and took her hand. “But, sadly I will have to wait because our car is here.”
At five minutes to midnight Nolan battled his way back to find Olivia. He spotted her on the patio, her hair shining in the moonlight as she looked out over the ocean. “Hey, did you miss me?” he grabbed her from behind and she turned to face him.
“Every second. How was Melanie Jackson?”
“A little handsy.”
She laughed. “She was probably getting her money’s worth. I can’t believe she paid five grand to dance with you for an hour!”
“Neither can I, and her feet are probably regretting it. I kept stepping on her toes.”
The auction had proved to be a great success with all of Nolan’s buddies from the gym raking in thousands between them. Nolan didn’t even feel sore that Raul made five hundred more than him.
Olivia reached for two glasses of champagne from the table beside her and handed him one. Inside, the music had stopped and people were gathering around for the countdown.
He took the drink from her and looked back at the crowded room. “You want to go inside for the ball drop?”
She shook her head. “I’d prefer to celebrate out here, if that’s okay with you?”
“Mmm, since when have I ever passed up an opportunity to be alone with you?” He gave her a quick kiss and took the glass of champagne from her.
The rhythmic chanting of the countdown began and he wrapped his free arm around her shoulder and together they looked out over the water. As whoops and hollers echoed around them they clinked their glasses together and sipped their champagne.
After he emptied his glass, Nolan placed his champagne flute on the balustrade and turned to Olivia. Taking her hand, he grew serious. “I want to make a new resolution.”
“Seriously? You didn’t even do the last one.”
“I did. I deleted Tinder.”
“But you didn’t give up sex.”
“I gave up meaningless sex.” He cupped her head in his hands and his lips hovered above hers. “You’re the only one I need.”
She blushed. “So, what’s the new resolution?”
“That before the year is out, I’m going to marry you.”
“What?” She stepped back, her eyes wide with surprise but Nolan caught hold of her wrist and reeled her back in.
“I know you’re not ready yet, but I want this to be forever, Livi. So, when you are, I’m gonna make you my wife.” He grinned down at her. “Just don’t make me wait too long, huh. You don’t want to make me break another resolution.”
“Ah, so you finally admit it! You did fail the last one”
“Maybe, but if I did it was only on a technicality.”
Olivia shook her head and stepped out of his arms. She hesitated and chewed on her lip, but then her fingers went to the ring on her necklace. Bringing it to her lips, she kissed it and then dropped it back in place. Slowly, her fingers went to the clasp and she removed the chain, her eyes never leaving his.
“Livi, you don’t have to.”
She pressed her finger against his lips, silencing him. “I want to make a new resolution, too. But I believe it is only fair that I also make good on the last one.”
He winked at her. “You already did… you slept with me.”
She rolled her eyes, then slipped the ring from the chain. “So now I am fulfilling the second part of the resolution.” She turned serious. “It feels like the right time, Nol. Lenny is always going to have a very special place in my heart, I don’t need my wedding band to remind me of him.”
Olivia held out her hand and Nolan took the ring from her, placing it in his jacket pocket. “I’ll carry it with me, and if you ever need it…”
“You’re very sweet.”
“Hmm, is that all I am?”
“Well, you are other things, too.”
A mischievous twinkle appeared in his eye. “Like what?”
“Well, you’re devastatingly handsome, charming…” Her cheeks flushed a little as she paused.
“Go on, I’m enjoying this.”
She put her hands on his chest and shook her head. “You’re quite full of yourself, aren’t you?”
Nolan pressed himself against her. This playful intimacy was making him hard again. “I’d rather you be full of me.”
Olivia’s hand flew to her mouth and she stifled a giggle. “Oh my God. You did not just turn that around!”
His hands slid from her waist, to her ass and he pulled her closer, deliberately rubbing his hard length against her stomach. “Are you telling me you don’t want me inside you?”
“Nolan Carmichael, you are…”
He interrupted her. “A horny, sexy stud who wants to fuck your brains out?”
“Okay, I think we should go home, right now.” Olivia grabbed his hand and pulled him through the crowded room.
Nolan followed her, trying not to bump into anyone as she led him through the crowds of people singing Auld Lang Syne. When they reached the foyer of the hotel, he swung her round to face him. “Hey, what’s the rush, baby? The party isn’t over.”
“I know.” Olivia placed her hand on his cheek, her thumb tracing along the edge of his short beard. “But I just remembered something else about you.”
“You did?” He dipped his head to kiss her neck and she shivered in his arms.
“Hmm, I remembered you are a spectacular guy with a huge cock and now all I can think about is feeling it inside me.”
Nolan groaned. “Shit, Livi, you can’t say stuff like that to me.” He looked over her shoulder and spied the women’s bathroom. Grabbing her hand, he pulled her across the hallway and inside. Leaning against the door his hands reached for her long skirt and he tugged it up to her waist. There was no way he could wait until they got home and the moan that slipped from her lips as he wrestled with her clothing told him she couldn’t either.
“Wh-what if someone comes in?”
He grabbed a small chair from beside the door and jammed it under the handle. “Let’s make this quick, baby, because I can’t stop now.” He pushed her panties down her thighs and bent her over the sink. “Lift your chin up,” he whispered into her ear as he released himself from his trousers. “I want you to watch us baby.”
As Olivia looked at him through the mirror, her eyes were as full of lust as his own and when he entered her, the expression on her face said she needed him as much as he needed her.
It wasn’t the longest fuck of his life but, like every other time he made love to Olivia, it was gloriously satisfying. When she came undone, the expression on her face made him lose control. God, he’d never tire of this woman.
After helping her straighten out her dress, he smoothed her hair back behind her ears. Nolan took her hand and kissed it. “What do you say we go home and do this all over again?”
