The Way of Two Paths: M/M Wolf Shifter Paranormal Romance (The Moonstone Legacy Book 2) Page 9

by Apollo Surge

Tyler thought of his parents, and all the wolves who had gone before him. He was from a proud bloodline, a strong bloodline, and he was their legacy. The necklace still hung around his neck, and he knew that he wasn't just fighting for himself or Johnny, but for his entire bloodline. He wasn't a lone wolf, the spirits of his parents and all his ancestors were with him.

He shook off the pain. This time, instead of growling he howled. He tensed every sinew in his body and as he glared at Todd he felt something strange stir within him. Energy and strength pulsated in every part of his body. He felt stronger than he had ever been, and he was ready to unleash it all upon the wolf before him.

But as he looked at Todd's eyes he saw alarm and fear. Tyler strode toward him and lashed out at Todd. To his surprise, his blow landed and Todd went flying, spinning through the air, his limbs splaying out all around him as he crashed to the ground. He scrambled back to his feet and bowed his head, his eyes gleaming with fear and anger. He backed away slowly as Tyler continued to move forward, driving Todd back, until the other wolf sprinted away. Tyler's first reaction was to give chase, before he remembered Johnny.

Shifting back into a human, Tyler went back to Johnny and helped him on the ground.

  “What was that?” Johnny asked.

“I don't know. I didn't think he would attack me like that, and I didn't know I'd be able to scare him off. I don't know what happened there.”

“It probably had something to do with the glowing necklace,” Johnny said. Tyler looked down at his necklace in shock, but it looked the same as it always did. “It shone while you were fighting.”

“Just like the prophecy,” Tyler whispered.

“There's more going on here than we know, isn't there?” Johnny asked.

Tyler nodded. “I think I know how he's influencing Mel. When he had his hand on your head I could see his ring glowing.”

“It felt as though I was being compelled to follow what he wanted, like he was becoming the most important thing to me. For a moment there I would have done anything he asked.”

“That's what he tried with me yesterday. It's what he's done with Mel.”

“We have to stop him,” Johnny said.

“We will,” Tyler replied. When Johnny's anger faded he looked at Tyler and his shoulders slumped.

“I know that what I accused you of is wrong now. It was all Todd, and you did well to fight him off. What I did was without influence. I was selfish, and I shouldn't have kept it from you. If you want to break up-”

“No, I don't want that,” Tyler said grabbing Johnny's hand. “What's important is that you came to me eventually. I get that you wanted to protect me, and that's really sweet. I think I'll need a lot of protection. From what this letter said, and what Todd told me last night, there are going to be wolves that are looking for me, and not all of them are friendly.”

“Do you think you can really trust Todd?”

“I don't know. He's my only link, but I can't look past the way he's acted, and I can't help but think he has his own agenda. He did tell me that my parents were killed, and that corroborates what father wrote in the letter. Whoever killed my parents is still out there, and I intend to find them.”

“But how are you going to do that if Todd is you only link to the wolves?”

“He told me of another way to communicate. I've been struggling recently Johnny with feeling like I belong. I straddle two worlds, and I'm not sure how to reconcile them both. But I think I'm beginning to work out how. I understand myself more. The snippets that Todd told me were useful, and I think I can learn to understand this side of myself. But I'm going to need your help to do it. I want you by my side, because you're just as much a part of me as any of this is. The truth is, I'm not sure if I was stronger because of the necklace or because of my love for you, but I do know that was what was going through my head at the time. Let's just put this behind us and carry on from where we were before.”

Well, the place we left off was somewhere very hot indeed,” Johnny said, moving closer to Tyler, wrapping his arms around Tyler's hips. Tyler smiled as he tilted his neck and opened his mouth, welcoming Johnny's kiss.

The two of them embraced each other tightly as they sealed their forgiveness with love. The rush of emotion that passed between them was sweet and enticed them to explore it further. Johnny took Tyler by the hand and went to lead him back into the house, but as they were about to step inside Tyler shook his head.

“It's a warm night and the stars are beautiful, how about we enjoy what nature has to offer us?”

Tyler's suggestion was met with a broad smile. The two of them skipped away hand in hand to the cover of trees. They were completely alone, and were loud enough that any small animals were avoiding their presence.

They found a mossy area to rest and easily sank into each other’s arms, kissing sweetly and deeply. Tyler felt the love rise within his heart and as he eagerly stripped Johnny of his clothes nervous laughter rippled between them.

“Are you sure we're allowed to do this?” Johnny asked.

“Probably not, but I don't think anyone is going to be able to stop us,” Tyler replied. “I turn into a wolf, I'm pretty sure we're alone.”

This was enough to ease Johnny's mind and the two of them descended into the embrace of love. Heat scorched their minds as they allowed themselves to be swept away by the fierce passion. Their lips crashed against each other firmly, their hands groped and roamed over every inch of their bodies. Although it was night, they were on fire, and such was the intensity of the feeling within Tyler's heart he was sure that they would set the whole forest ablaze with the fury of their passion.

The two of them were rolling around the floor, having spread out their clothes as a makeshift blanket. The moonlight poured over their bodies, casting them in a silver glow. Johnny had never looked more beautiful, and Tyler wanted to fall into his eyes and never stop falling. His tongue danced. Every time he tasted Johnny his heart beat that little more quickly, and then his hand moved down to grip Johnny's erection. Johnny was so hard and strong that feeling him brought Tyler no end of delight.

Tyler was lying behind Johnny, cradling Johnny's body. One hand was pleasuring Johnny while the other was stroking his chest and head. Johnny's eyes were closed and he was moaning incoherently as Tyler brought forth the pleasure that was rising through his body. Tyler smiled as he felt every flicker of tension in Johnny's body. He teased him by going slowly, then speeding up, then letting go completely.

“Oh my God you're driving me crazy,” Johnny gasped. Unable to control himself, he grabbed Tyler's hand and thrust it back down to where Tyler curled his hand around Johnny's heat. He kept hold of it tightly, knowing that Johnny was at the point of arousal where anything else would only frustrate him rather than pleasure him, and he kept up his steady tempo, loving the feeling of giving Johnny pleasure.

“You make me feel so good,” Johnny whispered.

“I love making you feel good,” Tyler replied. He could feel every inch of Johnny tensing, his cock was huge and just about ready to explode. Johnny's eyes clamped shut and his body began to jerk. He gasped and moaned.

  “Cum for me,” Tyler whispered.

“Oh my God yes,” Johnny yelped, and Tyler held him tightly as Johnny's body convulsed completely and he released all the warmth that had been building up inside him. Tyler's hand was warm and sticky. Johnny gasped for breath, and sighed with contentment. “You're the best at that.”

Tyler smiled and nuzzled into the nape of Johnny's neck, kissing it softly. He taste the drops of sweat and breathed in the smell of masculine sex that hung around Johnny in a sweet miasma. Tyler growled a little as he nibbled on Johnny's skin and earlobe.

“Take me my wolf,” he said, shifting his body a little, inviting Tyler in. Tyler ran his hand all over Johnny's body before raising his fingers to Johnny's mouth. Warm saliva was soon coating Tyler's fingers, and then he delved into the depths of Johnny's body.

Before he'd met Johnny, Tyler had experimented with his own body, but nothing had compared to the reality of being with a live partner. It was stunning how everything came to him so naturally, and he was sure that it wouldn't be this way with anyone else. Johnny had been there when Tyler needed him most, and in moments like these he felt more connected to Johnny than he ever had with anyone, even his father.

Tyler closed his eyes and lost himself in Johnny's scent and taste. He let himself slip into Johnny's body slowly. By now it was a natural reaction, and whenever he was inside Johnny's body he felt like he was home. The tightness engulfed him, the heat welcomed him, and the motion of their two bodies together excited him.

Tyler groaned softly, directly into Johnny's ear as he thrust, making love to Johnny under the moonlight. He held Johnny tightly to him, pressing Johnny firmly against his own body. The sweat on their skin mingled and their breathing soon took on the same rhythm. Tyler grabbed Johnny's hair and buried his face in Johnny's neck. He wanted to be enveloped by the entire essence of Johnny, and wouldn't be content until it happened. Tyler was as deep inside Johnny as he was ever going to get and it was the most wonderful feeling. A strong surge of pleasure spiked in his mind, and his body bristled with tension. He wanted to hold the feeling for as long as possible, but eventually it reached a point where he was unable to control himself any longer.

His face tensed and dug his fingers into Johnny's skin.

“I love you. I love you,” Tyler repeated as his thrusts grew more intense, reaching to the deepest part of Johnny, until the flood overwhelmed Tyler and he exploded with violent convulsions. The intensity made him shudder. He felt drained, and collapsed to his back, arms reaching over his head. Instinctively, he howled. To his delight and surprise, Johnny howled as well. The two of them howled until their throats were raw, then held each other, providing each other with warmth and comfort on the cool, quiet night.

The echoes of their howls faded into the distance and soon enough everything was silent around them.

“You never cease to amaze me,” Johnny said.

“What do you mean?” Tyler asked.

“Every time we have sex I don't think it can get any better, but somehow you always make it more intense, more intimate.”

“I don't think it's just me,” Tyler replied with a grin. Johnny rested his head on Tyler's chest and cuddled into him. Tyler's arms fell down around Johnny, holding him tightly, and together they basked in the bliss they were feeling.

“Have you thought any more about the future?” Johnny asked.

“I have, but it's only when Todd came to me that I knew what I had to do.”

  “What's that?”

“He didn't tell me much, although it was more than I have ever known about the link with my people. But I've been having dreams for as long as I could remember. I always suspected there was something more to them, and it turns out that I can actually talk with wolves who are nearby. I can commune with them in the dreamworld, except I haven't been able to yet because I haven't known how.”

  “And Todd showed you this?”

“Not exactly. He said that I needed to embrace the wolf part of me. It sounded vague, but when I look back on the dreams I've always felt like an outsider, like something has been holding me back. When I've looked at the wolves I haven't seen them as equals, I've seen them as strangers, as products of my own subconscious. But now that I know they're not, now that I know they're waiting for me to communicate with them I think I'll be able to do it.”

“Do you think you'll be safe?” Johnny asked.

“I think so. My parents went to great lengths to keep me safe and I'm not going to jeopardize that, but I need to find out more about where I came from. I can't rest until I do so,” Tyler said with determination. “But whatever happens, I feel better about myself now. Especially knowing from this letter that it wasn't just chance my parents left me here. They chose to leave me with your uncle, and he helped carry out the wishes of my parents. I feel like I know them a little better, and as a result I feel like I know myself better too.”

“That's good for the both of us. I guess we still have a lot to learn about each other, ourselves, and what it means to be a couple,” Johnny admitted.

“Hey, we're both new at this, and we have a lot to learn, but we'll be all right. One thing I have learned is to stop worrying too much about the future. Anything could happen, and we really have no control over it, so it's best not to worry. It's more important to enjoy what we can when we can, and I want to enjoy you,” Tyler said, pressing his forehead against Johnny's.

“Oh you will,” Johnny said, kissing him. Tyler smiled and then pulled Johnny on top of him, and the night was filled with the sounds of their delight and laughter.

  Epilogue

After Johnny and Tyler had made love they remained outside. Johnny had fallen fast asleep, but Tyler was awake. He felt the cool breeze wash over his sweat-soaked body, and listened to the rustling of the leaves. It was quite a contented feeling, and he was overwhelmed with the desire to become a wolf, but thought it unfair to leave Johnny alone. Part of Tyler was worried that Todd was somewhere out there, waiting for him to leave so that he could have a free run at Johnny, and Tyler wasn't going to let that happen.

But Tyler knew there was a way he could be a wolf again. He felt tiredness pull his eyes down, and he was eager to see the wolves in his dream again. However, his eagerness was mixed with trepidation, for he could not be sure which wolves he could trust.

Even so, he knew that he could not turn away from this opportunity. He slowed his breathing and soon enough he had slipped into the dream world of the wolves.

This world was familiar to Tyler. Usually he entered it with fear in his heart, but this time there was no trace. He stepped forward into the field as usual, ready to meet the ring of wolves that surrounded him. Before, he had always been threatened by them. Perhaps that was still the appropriate response, but he was sure that this time they would not ignore him.

One by one they fell into line and looked at him. They howled, their howls creating a cacophony that filled Tyler's mind. This dream world was a part of him, but also extended far beyond him. All these wolves had their own lives, and were inhabiting the same world as he was. They were out there somewhere, and he wanted to find them.

Tyler looked at them all closely, trying to see if Todd was there, but he did not seem to be. Tyler was glad of this. He still wasn't sure if he could trust Todd or not. The howls pierced the air, and Tyler knew it was going to be time for him to join in. He stepped forward and lifted his head up, taking a few moments before he howled, afraid that his voice would not be heard. He could feel his heart beating rapidly. He had to do this, not just for himself, but for his parents.

From his lungs there came a loud howl, joining the chorus. Tyler howled for as long as he was able, until his breath was drained and he had to gasp. Only then did he notice that all the other wolves were silent, and they were looking directly at him. This was the point in the dream where they would usually turn their backs on him and walk away, but this time they did not. This time they came toward him. They could see him. For the first time in his life Tyler was not ignored by his own people.

The feeling of acceptance he felt was overwhelming, so much so that he almost didn't go with them. The wolves began to walk away, but they looked over their shoulder to see if Tyler was following.

  He did.

Each step he took was one closer to his destiny. He was a wolf, there was no denying it now, and with every moment that passed he started to gain a better understanding of what it really meant. These weren't just dream fragments he was walking beside, they were real wolves, who had welcomed him into their pack.

A sense of closeness filled him up, and he thought of Johnny. There were still two paths for Tyler to walk, but he felt more confident of his ability to straddle them. Now, they did not seem like two opposing paths, rather they were paths that intertwined, and Johnny cou
ld walk beside him. This night, Tyler did not wake up in a cold sweat panicking, he slept soundly, both parts of his heart and soul at peace with another for the first time in his entire life. It was a wonderful feeling, and he couldn't wait to share it with Johnny when he awoke.

The moon shone down on the wolves, as it did Tyler in real life. He walked all night with them, and although they did not exchange any words, he felt as though he was home.
