Skeeter smiled. “Really? Is that right?” He brought his gun up and pointed it at her head.
They were at a Mexican standoff.
“The real question is are you faster or am I?”
The silence between them was shattered by the sound of a weapon being thrown. It happened so quickly—neither of them saw it coming. Not until the knife embedded itself in Karen’s throat. It had been thrown so hard it went all the way in—up to the handle.
Karen’s eyes widened as she dropped the gun next to Calista as her hand reached up to her throat. She crumbled first to her knees as her eyes caught Skeeter’s. She wheezed as she tried to draw a breath but couldn’t. Her eyes closed slowly as she finally crumbled to the floor.
Skeeter snapped his head around and stared at the door where Mercy stood.
Mercy’s eyes were cold and she stood stiffly. Slowly, she walked toward where Karen was lying on the floor. She knelt down and pulled the knife from her throat then wiped the blade clean on the other woman’s shirt. “That was for my mama, you puta,” she said softly then she spat in Karen’s face. “I hope you burn in the fires of hell.” She got to her feet and went over to Skeeter.
The lights came on and men poured into the room.
Mercy stopped and handed over the knife to him, handle first.
He took the blade from her but hadn’t said a word yet.
Mercy looked at him with tears in her eyes. “I couldn’t let that bruja hurt anyone else. My neighbors told me as a child about an American woman seen in the village with the same man who came back later. She was pointing out our home to him. Then she took a good sum of money from him and walked away. He came back later and he murdered my mama. I knew it was this witch as soon as I saw her.”
“How did you know it was her?” Skeeter asked.
Mercy turned around and went back to where Karen was laying. She picked up her wrist and took off the bracelet Karen had always worn. She removed it and brought it over to Skeeter. “This bracelet was one my papa gave my mama before he was killed. She used to let me play with it when I was little. When I saw it on her wrist, I knew the truth. She had it taken from my mama when she was murdered.” She turned back to the bed. “Besides, I couldn’t let her kill Zoey’s mama. Zoey didn’t deserve that and neither did her mama.” She turned back to Skeeter. “I saw the look in her eyes. She would have pulled the trigger.” She paused then asked, “What is going to happen to me now?”
Skeeter put his gun back in his holster and wrapped her in his arms. “Not a damn thing, sweet girl. Although I should be very angry with you as I told you to stay in my room.”
Mercy planted her face in Skeeter’s chest and wrapped her arms around his waist. “I couldn’t stay there. I had to try and stop her. For my mama and my papa. She killed them both you know.”
Gunner stepped up and shook his head. “We still don’t know who killed your father.”
“Yes, we do.” Mercy told them both. “My mama told me she was there that night. She wanted to watch my papa cross the border. She wanted one last look at him as he left. She was in the shadows and she saw who shot him. She could see what happened even if she couldn’t stop it. Ms. Karen stepped out of the shadows when my papa fell to the ground. He knew it was her too. She told him that night that she always swore he would regret turning his back on her. She put four more bullets into him and waited until he bled to death before she left. She wanted to see him die that bad.”
“Why didn’t you tell us this before?” Skeeter asked.
Mercy shook her head. “I couldn’t ever tell anyone until she was dead. My madre feared for my life. That was one promise my mama made me swear to. I kept my word to her.”
Just then, Janice and Zoey rushed into the room.
Janice gasped at the site of Karen’s body still lying on the floor.
Zoey rushed over to the bed and grasped her mother’s hand. Looking her over carefully, she lifted a trembling hand to check her pulse. She closed her eyes and sagged when she felt it still beating under her fingertips. She slid down into a chair and leaned over to give her mom a peck on the cheek.
Her mother opened her eyes and stared at Zoey for a moment then whispered, “Trace.”
Zoey’s eyes spilled tears down her cheek. “Yes mama, I’m Trace’s daughter,” she whispered.
Calista frowned in confusion then whispered her name, “Zoey.”
Zoey smiled as fresh tears ran down her face. “Yes, mama my name is Zoey.”
Calista smiled and closed her eyes again. “I found you.”
Zoey leaned forward and placed her forehead against her mom’s, “And I found you finally. I’ve been looking for you my whole life.”
Gunner motioned for a couple of the brothers to haul Karen’s body out of there.
While they were doing that, Janice came over to Skeeter and Mercy. “Are you guys all right?” she asked. “Mercy waited for a few minutes then slipped out of the room. I couldn’t stop her quick enough.”
Skeeter grabbed her and pulled her into his arms. “We’re all safe. This nightmare is finally over.”
Janice laid her head on his chest and wrapped her arms around his waist. “Oh, thank god.”
Mercy walked over to Zoey and placed her hand on the other girl’s shoulder.
Zoey turned her head and grabbed Mercy’s hands. “She’s alive and she’s going to come back to me!”
“I am so happy for you,” Mercy told her with tears in her own eyes.
“Today is a very good day.” Zoey smiled. “I have a sister and I have my mother back. And Karen is finally out of our lives, forever. Thank you for that.”
Mercy shook her head. “Do not thank me for such a thing. What I did was a sin. Now I will go to jail for it.”
“You’ll do no such thing!” Janice exclaimed harshly.
Mercy lifted her head and looked at her. “But Ms. Karen is dead by my hand.”
“No,” Skeeter and Gunner proclaimed.
Skeeter then said, “You stopped her from killing four other people tonight. It was self-defense on your part.”
Janice went over to her and brushed a strand of hair out of her face. “Even if this does go to court, I’ll stand beside you and explain what happened. You won’t go to jail or even back to Mexico. You’re staying right here with us.”
“You’re my sister, blood relation, remember?” Zoey reminded her. “You re my family and you aren’t going anywhere.”
Skeeter smiled at them, they would all be family. He could see this already. “Come on girls, it’s all over now,” he urged. “We all need to get some sleep. Tomorrow is another day.”
Zoey balked at moving.
Janice told her, “Come on Zoey bear, you need to rest. Let your mom sleep. She woke up tonight, so maybe tomorrow, you can talk to her again.”
The four of them left the room together.
When everything was settled down, another shadow slipped into the room and made its way over to the chair beside the bed then sat down.
He stared at the woman on the bed and slowly reached out and took her hand. Raising her fingers to his mouth, he kissed them lightly. “I’ve been looking for you for a long time and now I finally found you. You don’t know me yet but before long, you certainly will.”
When Skeeter and Janice settled the girls in their room, he ushered her back to his room and closed the door behind them. The very second, they were alone, he pushed her against the door, and crushed her lips under his.
The same spark they felt before lit up between them again and he groaned as he opened his mouth over hers.
Janice gasped as he pushed his tongue in her mouth and deepened the kiss.
She whimpered as the fire inside her grew and threatened to consume her. Skeeter reached under her to lift her up and she wrapped her legs around his waist. When she did, she felt his hard cock near her core and she moaned as the kiss went on and on.
Skeeter finally broke the kiss to whisper in her ear, “I
want you.”
“I want you too,” she replied breathlessly. “I thought you’d never realized that fact.”
Skeeter chuckled. “Oh, I realized it. I’ve had a hard on for days. And I don’t know what that scent you wear is, but it haunts my dreams.” He looked down into her eyes. “The timing was off but I knew I wanted you.”
Janice smiled and whispered, “So what are you going to do about it, big guy?”
Skeeter raised a brow at her challenge and carried her over to the bed. Throwing her onto the mattress, he followed her down. Laying on top of her he whispered, “I’m going to get you naked then get me naked and have my wicked way with you and you’re going to let me do it.”
Wrapping her arms around his neck, she grinned at him, “Oh, yeah? What makes you think so?”
Skeeter smiled as he rubbed her core with his pelvis. “Because I can feel your heat from here. Even through my clothes and yours, I can feel you. And I want me some of that.”
Janice arched her back as much as she could and she moaned, “And I want some of this too.” She whispered as her mound met with his hard package.
Skeeter cupped her face with his huge hands and looked her in the eyes, “You belong to me, and I think I knew that the very first time I saw you. After this, you will be mine, you know that right?”
Janice looked at him. “If I belong to you, then you belong to me and only me...agreed?”
Skeeter groaned. “Oh, hell yeah.”
“Then show me what you got, big guy. I have wanted this for days...” She sighed into his kiss.
A few minutes later before either of them knew it, they were laying skin to skin.
He lowered his mouth and took in a nipple sucking on it while he played with the other. This went on for several minutes. Then he lowered his fingers and played with her wet clit.
Janice was panting and gasping. “Damn, you are some kind of man,” then she whispered, “Take me, I’m yours.”
Skeeter kissed her deeply as pushed his cock deep into her core and they both lost themselves to a dance older than time itself. He went in and out and they both groaned at the feeling.
“Oh, my god!” she gasped. “I have never felt this good before. Oh...deeper...”
Skeeter did as she asked as he pulled back and went deep, as it pushed her body up along the bed.
Breathing heavily, her eyes rolled up in her sockets as she arched up into him and came.
Pleasure blinded them both and the heat of the moment carried them away up the long hill to the top of the abyss where they balanced precariously until a slight puff on nonresistant wind carried them over the edge.
Skeeter roared her name, and she answered his call as she felt him explode deep within her.
For a moment, neither of them could move and when their hearts slowed down, Skeeter moved to her side.
The night air cooled the sweat from their bodies and all Janice could do was sigh. She’d never felt so complete before. Turning her head toward him, she whispered, “You better have meant what you said because I’m keeping you.”
“I ain’t going anywhere without you,” Skeeter swore. “You got me for life.”
“Good.” She snuggled into him. “You got a life sentence, buddy.”
Skeeter chuckled. “Yes, Ma’am Counselor. I will do the time and love every God dammed second of it.”
Janice giggled like a girl. “God, this just couldn’t have turned out better. But I have some bad news for you.”
He turned his head and looked at her.
“I won’t be able to be your attorney anymore.”
He then laughed. “Well, a lawyer I can find, but there is only one woman like you. Good night sweetheart,” he whispered in her ear as he closed his eyes.
“Good night, love of my life,” she whispered back.
Soon, they were both lost to sleep.
It was late the next morning before anyone woke up.
When Gunner and Dee Dee came out for coffee, Gunner found Beau and his boys sitting at one of the large round tables. They seemed to be waiting for him.
So while DeeDee went to the kitchen, Gunner made his way over to the table where they sat.
When he joined them, Beau stared at him with a look in his eyes that Gunner recognized. He waited for whatever they had to say.
Then Beau asked him the burning question, “So what’s this I hear about a boys club?”

Author of the bestselling, award winning Bratva Brothers and Satan Spawns/Sin’s Bastards MC Series...
I live in a small town (population495) in Wisconsin. From my deck, I can see the Mississippi River on one side and the bluffs, where eagles live and nest on the other side. I live with my husband Dave and dog Buddy. My two children are grown and I have two grandchildren. I love to watch people and that has helped me with my writing. I often use people I watch as characters in my books and I always try to give my characters some of my own values and habits.
I love to create characters and put them in a troubling situation then sit back and let them do all the work. My characters surprise even me at times. At some point in the book, they take on a life of their own and the twists and turns they create becomes the story. Of all the stories I could write, I found I like suspense/thrillers the best. I like to keep my readers guessing until the very end of the book.
