Nelson Branco's Soap Opera Uncensored: Issue 42 Page 5

by Nelson Branco

for the first time since knowing Rowell, I fully understood the cray-cray everyone warned me about. Sad, because I defended Rowell to the cast and crew of Y&R whenever I could. And I really loved her.

But, as I soon learned, Rowell’s career trumps longtime friendships so it was no surprise that she threw me under the bus (though she never mentioned my name on Twitter).

Why do I bring this up? Well, it’s no secret that Rowell is intent on returning to Y&R now that Bell is no longer the show’s chief.

Let me make something clear: Bell always wanted Rowell back on the canvas. It’s Sony that’s the problem! Heck, even The Genoa City Mafia is powerless to veto her comeback. And even if they did, it’s a waste of time because, given the state of daytime these days, no one’s job is safe. Hello: It’s not 1989 anymore, kids. Sony’s in charge, kids.

Having said that, I snooped around to test the temperature at Sony and CBS regarding Rowell and Dru’s possible rise from the dead. Yep, nothing’s changed.

“Maria wanted Dru back because Bill [Bell] loved Dru. Steve [Kent] hates Victoria as much as the cast of Y&R—if not more,” says a high-placed insider. “Hell will more than likely freeze over before she’s playing that part again. She has slandered CBS, Sony, the cast and Y&R’s legacy and dragged it through the mud the past couple of years with charges of racism. She fancied herself a writer and demanded she join the Y&R writing team. Who the hell does that? We have enough problems with Eric Braeden. Y&R doesn’t need that kind of bad energy on set. She’s unpredictable, a loose cannon, and a selfish, anti-team player. She’s a child who needs 24-hour supervision and we don’t have time for that.”

  Well, I can’t say I disagree.

However, perhaps Josh Griffith will be able to convince Sony and CBS that if it wants to save Y&R, it will indeed have to bring back Drucilla, who will surely spike the ratings.

But, as I’ve been saying forever, recast the vital role with Vivica A. Fox, who is a team player and would bring the show lots of mainstream publicity.

I asked Fox if she would tackle the role to which the movie star said, “Hell yeah!”

  Shhh!
