Dungeon Master Page 15

by Andrew Bardsley

Symania and Rhef has been working on the construction of the dungeon's different levels together, generally splitting up the work into the major layout, which Rhef was doing, and the fine detailed work that Symania was enjoying directing, as she called on her art knowledge, and produced works with a twist from the normal that she had seen. The gremlins and kobold had been the most helpful in the detailed work of sculpting into stone what she had expressed in drawings.

From behind her, she heard running and looked to see who was coming. She saw Ceras, Grikius and his dog Apollo in plan clothes that had just put on after been resurrected. Opening her arms and kneeling down, she allowed Apollo to run into her embrace and gave him a big hug as he licked her face enthusiastically.

"Who's a brave dog for defending us," she soothed the dog in her gentle tones, "let's hope that you won't have to go through that again so soon."

Passing a slice of meat treat to them from a bag at her side that she always carried he gobbled it down as it seemed not even to be chewed, and ran back to his master or as Symania thought more friend Grikius, as they seemed to be inseparable.

"That wasn't a pleasant experience," said the weary voice of Ceras as he stood beside her, "I really hope that we don't have to repeat it again."

"So, what happened on the surface?" Symania asked of Ceras.

"It all happened so quickly," said Ceras as he looked into the distance as he was trying to remember, "the massive dragon landed and changed into this elegant woman. She started to walk toward the gates of the castle and then one of the archers fired at her. The arrow just disappeared into thin air, seeing this all of the archers opened up. None of the arrows reached her, and all disappeared like the first seeming to vaporize. She then pointed at use with her hand and a large fire jetted across the distance engulfing us all. The next thing I remember was waking up after I had been resurrected."

"So, the dragon didn't attack you first?" said Symania in question voice with her eyebrows raised as she looked intently at the large Ceras who replied "No”.

Humm thought Symania it’s interesting that a dragon could just have burnt them all from the air but she only attacked after she had been shot at. From the stories that I’ve heard dragons normally attack first with no time for you to think about getting of the first shot. Maybe she actually wanted to talk.

"She is just about to enter the reception hall for this level," shouted the very worried voices of the dungeon.

"Remember your roles, everybody," shouted Rinaldo talking to his army of many types of monsters.

Symania had been amazed that the normally irresponsible boy was taking his role of general of the army, of dungeon created monsters so seriously. She knew that he had been working on tactics for a while, creating specified units for different roles.

Looking at the ranks of creatures that make up the army, she was amazed that they were no longer just a mob the just tried to swarm the enemy. Rinaldo had arranged, what he called his heavy infantry units of fifty, with rock trolls as the main component and orcs for fast moving support filling up the gap when needed. He always had developed skirmishing units on the wings of the main forces that would try and attack the enemy on the side with a creature like a saber tiger that had high agility.

She saw the unit response to his warning by readying large crossbow and hold their spear in a position they could throw it quickly, all now quite awaiting the arrival of the lady dragon.

The quite of the cavern was now only disturbed by the slight shuffling of the creature moving on their feet changing to get a better stance as the flag Rinaldo was using for signal the firing of the ranged weapon, were raised in readiness to release the projects when the flag dropped sharply on his command.

From the large entrance, a doorway appeared an elegant woman with long dark hair and a smile on her face that had sharp features. The gown that she was wearing flowed around her as if blown by the wind, which was usual as there was no wind in the cavern. As the dragon in the form of women walked slowly forward, Symania noticed a certain way she walked as if she was carrying something very heavy in front of her that makes her wonder about something.

"Wait for everybody before attacking," shouted Symania, using a magical spell to enhances her voices and add a note of command, "Rinaldo signal everybody to stand down as I'd go forward to talk."

Rinaldo and the other looked shocked and surprised that Symania had issued such an order in a direct manner as she was normal so quiet.

"Do it now," shouted Symania to the open-mouthed barbarian.

  "OK?"

Shutting his mouth, he started giving the order for the army to stand at ease and lower their weapons as Symania started to stroll forward, from the ranks toward the smiling lady dragon. The sound behind her of the army lowering her weapon made her slightly nervous as she was taking such a risk on a guess of what might be occurring here. So, as she walked the distance to the dragon, her heart felt like it was beating as if she were a drum in her chest trying to beat its way out.

Approaching the lady, she saw an arm behind her back with her stomach sticking out as if she was uncomfortable.

"My lady," said the gentle voice of Symania in her white healer gown with a look of concern across her face, "may I get a comfortable chair for you to sit down and put up your legs for a while. It must be so uncomfortable for you to have to walk all this way in your condition."

The sharp features of the dragon sighed with relief as she said, "That would be wonderful dear, it been such a long walk."

"Hidden-Caverns," said Symania in a commanding tone of voice but not too loud as to disturb the dragon, "a very comfortable chair and I think a cushioned leg rest, would be an excellent idea to have here immediately for our lovely guest."

"What?" said the confused dungeon in a bewildered tone of voice that indicated that he was shocked to the core.

"You heard the instruction, do it now," said Symania in a steely voice that left no room for argument.

Suddenly from the cavern floor, a white glow was emitted as the dungeon used some of its energy to directly create the chair and the footstool that Symania had requested, for the dragon. When the glow disappeared a large chair, filled with soft cushions was standing beside a cushioned footstool. Symania indicated for the lady dressed in a dark red flowing dress to take a seat. Moving forward helping the dragon to move around in the chair as she tried to get comfy with Symania lifted up the dragon's legs as the dragon sight with satisfaction as if this was the best thing to happen."

Leaning back, the dragon lady relaxed into the seat and closed her eyes, smiling as tiredness seemed to overcome her.

"My lady," said Symania in a quiet solicitudes voice, "I can help your discomfort with some healing and massage if you so desire."

The dragon replied with her eyes still closed, "That would be lovely, my dear."

Symania knelt at the dragon's feet and unlaced the dragon's shoes, placed them to the side of the footrest and started to massage the lady's feet slowly. As Symania moved around her hand in a circular motion, she channels healing energy into the flesh of the feet trying to take away any pains and leave them in a relaxed start. This process of healing and massage carried on for about half an hour as the lady in the chair seemed to relax fully with a satisfied smile on her face.

"My dear, you are very talented at relaxing me," said the satisfied dragon with her eyes closed and her body relaxed as if she was about to fall asleep.

"Thank you, my lady, as I learn it from my mother and aunts who were in the same conditions as you are. They found it most relaxing to and so were keen to have me learn how massage and heal," said Symania in a relaxed voice.

"Talking about talented," purred the dragon, "I was wondering if you knew who was responsible for all of the wonderful carving on the wall and ceiling of this dungeon? They have just the most wonderful style that seems to bring them to life."

"That would be me, my lady," said Symania with a slight smile that somebody was c
omplimenting her artwork, "but I did have help from the dungeon creatures in carving the stone. The design was my own through."

The dragon slightly opened her eyes and looked at Symania with a surprised look, that was followed by a smile of pleasure as the massage continued on for a few minutes. The army behind the two women was starting to relax more and more as most of the units were sitting down as it had been so long. The rest of the adventure we're looking at what Symania was doing in bewilderment, but we're just glad they were not battling the dragon.

"My lady," said Symania in her most calm voice, "are you following the nature of your kind to find a place underground to give birth to the child you are carrying."

"How perceptive of you, my dear," said the dragon now leaning back and closing her eyes, "I'm looking for a nice quiet place underground for that exact thing. I felt the pull of the dungeon from far away and decided to investigate as I've never heard of one here."

"How wonderful," said Symania, "it so special to bring a new life into this world, we, of course, can accommodate you. We have plenty level of the dungeon that is empty if you would like to inhabit one of them and I can ensure that you will not be disturbed by others in the dungeon."

A smile appeared on the dragon's face as if it was such a relief to finally be able to rest for a while as she gave birth. Quietness surrounded to two as the young women released the stress of the pregnant dragon.

"Shall, I go and inhabit my nest them," said the relaxing dragon, "as it is far easier to be in my true form at this time.

"Of course, my lady," said Symania as she offered her arm for the dragon to take.

The elegant lady stood up from the chair and took the offered arm of Symania as she was led to the entrance by the young lady into the portal that glowed in the reception area.

  --

Ceras was watching in wonder as the normally quiet young woman was escorting the dragon lady out of the level and down to the lowest level of the dungeon.

"What just happen there," he said in a voice filled with wonder as he talked to the dungeon.

"A bloody miracle is what just happen," said a dungeon with an incredulous tone of voice that filled the air, "it's amazing. There was no way we could have stopped her at our present level of development as this army was an act of desperation and would have been wiped out. The wonderful Symania somehow worked a miracle on so many levels. Not only have we not been killed by a dragon, that is one of the most powerful creatures in this world, but we now have it guarding our dungeon for a time."

"How is see guarding the dungeon?" said Ceras.

"Well, she not going to allow anybody into her nest, that she doesn't want to and for anybody to defeat the dungeon they have the defeat all the levels. So, we now should have to time to build up the level and your strength hopefully while the dragon is defending a level." said the now ecstatic dungeon.

As the army broke up to go back to their other duties, Ceras saw Rinaldo looking slightly disappointed not to have tested his army even through Hidden-Caverns said he would have lost.

A man is transported to a new world, given magical power, and left to survive. He has a bit of help, from a mysterious system with a none helpful personality. This book contains LitRPG based element as part of the magical system in the world.

Following is an extract from the Book:

They were both standing on the platform by the palisade, looking across the plains. As the light began to fade both of them could see a group of creatures walking up the hill in a disorganized crowd. It was the goblins. There seemed to be no organization and even some fighting. When the crowd was about fifty meters from the palisade, one larger goblin started to shouting and hitting others, forming them up into rough ranks. Ahava felt a cold sweat on his brow, but Olga was giving off an air of excitement.

The large goblin signaled to some goblins with drums. The drums started the beat. “Boom, Boom, Boom...”

The sound of the drums continued. The goblins were dressed in fur rags, each with a spear with a stone head or clubs. Some of the goblins had blood smeared across their faces in horizontal patterns. The drum sound continued to intensify. At a signal from the leader, the goblins roared and charged forward.

The battle had begun. The goblins ran, some using their hands like four legs. Soon they were at the ditch with the wooden spikes. Some of them tried to leap across the ditch but fell short and were impaled on the wooden stakes. Ahava could hear the cries of the wounded. Others slowly crawled down into the ditch, avoiding the stakes. Ahava and Olga had a supply of large stones, which they started to throw onto the goblins in the ditch. A lot of the rocks hit the goblins, crushing their heads and bodies. A number of goblins reached the palisade and started to climb up. Some of them were knocked off by the stones. Ahava and Olga ran out of stones to throw.

Ahava used his spear to stab the goblins while they were climbing up the wooden wall. Olga was moving around in a type of dance, chopping with her ax at any goblins that came over the wall. The speed of the ax was a blur of movement. Ahava saw severed heads flying in all directions from the axes Olga was wielding. There were bits of goblin all around the platform. One goblin managed to bite Ahava on the arm. Ahava pulled out his knife and stabbed the goblin in the eye. It screamed and fell back into the ditch.

The sheer numbers of the goblins were starting to overwhelm the two on the platform. At a prearranged signal from Olga, both of them withdrew. Navigating the route between small pit traps and through a hole in the thorn wall, they retreated toward the cliffs. Ahava blocked off the hole with thorns.

Their backs were against a large bonfire. The goblins started to run across the area with the pit traps. Many of the first ones fell into the traps and were skewered on the wooden spikes. The followers managed to avoid the pits. The goblins were now pressing against the barrier of thorns. Ahava and Olga started to throw burning wood at the goblins. This set some of the dry material that had been placed before the thorns alight. Some of the goblins burned from the fire. To Ahava’s amazement, the goblins started to climb over the thorn bushes. They seemed to be in such a rage to get at Ahava and Olga that it did not matter the pain they were in.

Olga had ordered Ahava to not get in her way if the goblins got to the open area past the thorns. He was told to only kill any that were on the edges. As some of the goblins finished climbing over the thorn bushes, Olga attacked with her ax. To watch this was like seeing a beautiful dance, full of grace and power. Heads and pieces of the goblin's bodies went flying everywhere. Ahava used his spear to stab any goblins that tried to make a getaway from Olga’s dance of death. Soon there were no goblins left except the large one, who was the leader. He had been pushing his goblins forward with kicks and punches.

Second Book in the 'The History System Chronicles'

This book contains LitRPG based element as part of the magical system in the world.

Following is an extract from the Book:

Namzu spoke urgently to the now awoken group of adventurers putting on their armor, “We’ll have to defend the cave from mountain trolls and cyclops, Istar and Etel-Pisha, go now and harass the oncoming enemy while we prepare for the attack. Hurry, you need to buy us enough time to clear the ground for our stand.”

Istar indicated to Etel-Pisha to follow her to attack the column of monsters, before they reached the cave. They both ran for about ten minutes in the bright moon light, until they could hear the movement of the trolls and cyclops, moving along the path towards the cave. The two took up sheltered positions amongst different outcrops of rock, as soon as the first troll appeared Istar started to shoot her arrows. The first arrow flashed across t
he intervening distance like a bolt of light, shrieking and then thudding with the impact into the troll's chest, and out the other side. For a few seconds the large troll kept moving, as if nothing had happened, then it fell face first into the road. The troll behind it roared in anger, as moved it forward with no thought for protection. Now Etel-Pisha shot out fireballs, lighting up the area and revealing his position. The fireballs and arrows were hitting the trolls, causing damage as the trolls found themselves alight or with bloody gaping holes from where the arrow had hit. The onslaught of trolls caused the two adventures to retreat, as they could not kill enough to hold their position. Istar and Etel-Pisha ran until they could find another position to attack the oncoming column from. The process of attacking from positions along the trail continued until the two found themselves back the caves entrance. The trolls kept using the same tactic of charging at every attack, ignoring the casualties this caused in their rage. Istar had commented to Etel-Pisha that they were determined but not very bright. The slower cyclops were always behind at the back of the column, and so were not attacked by the arrows and fireball.

The harrying had brought the required time and as they reached the cave mouth, the rest of the adventurers had formed a shield wall with a killing ground in front of it. Each of the shield men had a bundle of spears taken from the dragon's horde. As the trolls started to charge into the killing ground Namzu ordered the three shield men and one shield minotaur, to throw all at once.

Co-ordinated, as if through years of long practice, each of them released the spears as one. The four-spears flew across the distance hitting the first four mountain trolls. Each spear impaled a troll and then rammed into the ground behind them keeping the troll bodies standing like grotesque marionettes. The process was repeated again and again as the remaining trolls charged forward. Soon the adventures could see the cyclops at the back moving towards the front. All of them stood taller than Asterion by several feet. On the side of the shield wall, Istar shot off arrows at the cyclops heads to take out their single eyes. Several cyclops were hit in the face, and the arrow ends protruded out of their cheeks, as the tough bone had prevented them entering the skull. Soon the cyclops were in range of the spear throwers, and as the spears hit their bodies, they pierced but did not stop them coming. The first slow-moving cyclops eventually reached the shield wall, spears sticking out of its body with arrows peppering its face. Using its massive club that looked to be a whole tree, the cyclops swept and crashed against Nasha’s shield. If the shield had not been strengthened and Nasha was not stronger, then he would have been thrown backwards from the strike into the cave wall. Gritting his teeth and strengthening his grip, he was able to hold his position, moving back less than a foot in total.
