"Shauna, I'm on niece duty Saturday morning," Pepper said into the phone. "Care to help out?"
"Niece duty?"
"Yeah, Marina and Matt are going to pick up a Maine Coon kitten they're getting from a breeder somewhere near Guelph. It's going to be a surprise for April so they don't want her to see the kitten until they get it home. My mom and dad are taking Grandma Dot to visit a friend of hers in Woodstock, and since I'm off duty Saturday, I ended up drawing the short straw."
"It can't be that bad. April's a sweetheart."
"Yeah, I know. It should be fun actually. Care to have a little more fun in your life?"
"Sure, I'd love it. So what time Saturday?"
"They said they'd be dropping her around nine, and that they'd probably be back to pick her up around one or two."
"Great. Do you want me to bring anything?"
"Well, anything that you think might help to entertain a three-year old."
"Okay, I'll have to think about that. I'll see you Saturday morning."
"See you then."
