Wilson and Johansson were in court all day, but the rest of the team kept at it, the list of possible vehicles gradually getting smaller. Around noon, Caruso gathered the team together near the murder board. He turned and nodded to Harris.

"I've just finished speaking with the son of the woman who owned that house that burned down. He's a single investment banker living in Boston. I've been trying to track him down since yesterday. He's in Shanghai and he's been working there for the last six weeks. He said he's been so busy since his mother died that he just hasn't gotten around to selling the abandoned house."

"Does he have any connection to Drummond?" Caruso asked.

Harris shook his head as he looked down at his notes. "No. My research into the guy and the company he works for shows no connection to Drummond in any way. After questioning him for a while, I eventually brought up Drummond's name, but he had no idea who I was talking about. If he's a liar, he's a good one."

In the late afternoon, Pepper and Wallace went back to Cheapside Street. They knocked on the neighbouring houses where people hadn't been home the day before. They found some who had just returned from work, but no one had seen anything Saturday evening. They stopped briefly to see if Mrs. Hooper had remembered anything more, but she basically told them the same story she'd given them the day before. They returned to the police station, finally knocking off for the night around six-thirty.

Pepper drove home, knowing they were getting close.
