“Hey, whoa, whoa, calm down.”
She recognized Jayce’s voice and instantly the tears that she thought were all cried out of her body appeared again. Running down her cheeks.
“Jayce?”
He crossed the room and had barely sat down at the edge of the bed before she was on top of him. Grabbing at everything she could, landing kisses to his face and lips. She was trying to get her body as close to him as humanly possible. His chest rumbled with laughter.
“I’m here, babe. I’m not going anywhere.”
She sat up, straddling his hips. “You’re here?” she asked in a small voice.
He nodded with a big smile across his face.
“What about everything? How…”
He landed a kiss to her lips. When he pulled back he had a serious look on his face. “I got ‘promoted’ of sorts.”
She nodded, waiting for him to continue.
“I understand that this life is not for you. I never want you to be involved in something that you don’t want to be involved in.”
She opened her mouth to speak, but he shook his head.
“Just let me explain. This life is dangerous and it always will be dangerous. There is no day that will go by where you will be completely safe. I will protect you and fight for you until the day I die. But, if you want me to leave, I will. We can run, find somewhere to go after high school but you need to tell me now.”
His eyes locked on hers. She could see how sincere he was. He was willing to leave everything behind for her despite the potential risk, but she knew she couldn’t let him do that. As crazy as it was, this was what he wanted to do.
“I don’t want to run. If this is what you want to do then we’ll do it together. You found a path for your life. I don’t know what I want to do with my life yet but when I decide I want you to be beside me.”
“Go to New York with me.”
She raised an eyebrow. “Huh?”
“After we graduate, go to New York with me. Let’s start building our life.”
It was a crazy idea to leave everything behind and go to New York with her mafia boyfriend but she found herself nodding her head.
