“That’s a damn good question,” Bishop mused.
“I know how,” Sterling said, speaking up for the first time since they’d all come to the same conclusion. Something about the way he was looking at Ella made her doubt this one would come as any more of a relief. “There’s only one explanation. She’s a feral.”
“A feral?” Ella asked hoarsely, looking between them. Bishop seemed newly troubled by the news, but the look on Axel’s face made it clear he didn’t have any more of a clue what Sterling was talking about than Ella did.
“What does that mean?” Axel snapped.
Sterling’s gaze lingered on Ella, unbroken and filled with concern that was far more worrying than his anger would have been. “It means we need to get her back to the Academy. Now.”
