“Nobody knows you’re here except you and me.” His voice lowered to a deep, seductive murmur.

His gaze dropped to her lips. Her breath came quick as she struggled to find reason.

“We shouldn’t be doing this,” she said.

But when he bent his head toward hers, her wanton lips parted, longing to meet his.

His breath fanned her lips. “I know.” His lips brushed against hers. “Then why does this feel so right?”

She had no reply. What he said was true.

He pulled back as if waiting for her to answer. The intensity in his stare all but branded her as his with unmasked admiration and pure hunger. That look was stronger than any imaginable aphrodisiac.

“Do you want me to stop, Aurora?”

Her body revolted at the idea. “No!”

Did she have to cry out with such a frantic demand? “Don’t stop, Grayson.” She then leaned on her tiptoes to ensure that he didn’t pull away and kissed him.

Grayson didn’t respond at first, as if surprised by her action, but then he cradled the back of her neck and deepened the kiss. His other hand glided over her arm, traveling down her side, and then under the bottom of her shirt. As he seared her with his touch, she had the sense that he was claiming her, something she’d be more than willing to agree to in this moment. Even if this was wrong, even if this was a bad idea that would complicate their lives, she couldn’t help but feel. Desire had never burned through her like this.

Grayson cupped her breasts over her satin bra, thumbing each nipple until they turned into tight, sensitive buds. Goddess, she craved more. She heaved a deep exhale and leaned into his touch, eager to feel a skin-on-skin connection. She pulled her shirt up, and he helped pull it over her head.

When he gazed at her, raking down her body and then back into her eyes, his irises burned with a brighter, golden glow. The feral glint in them sent a hot wave of arousal pulsing between her legs.

  “You’re beautiful.”

The dark baritone of his voice echoed in her head. Even her veins seemed to sing with awareness. A tingling traveled all the way to her toes.

“I want to see you, Grayson. Touch you.”

Pulling his shirt off, she slid her hands beneath it and touched the hard planes of his chest. Her fingers trembled slightly as they coasted over his carved muscles. Every inch of his torso was hard, even the enticing crevices in his tight abs.

She explored his body, astonished that this hulk of a man who was also so gentle and considerate, wanted her. And he was a wolf shifter, no less! All her perceptions about his kind had been shattered since she met him. He was nothing like the other shifters she’d met, nothing like anyone she’d ever known. Fascinating.

As she continued down into the dips of his vee, her mouth turned dry. She swallowed and hesitated at the top of his pants, licking her parched lips as she pictured freeing his erection. The outline of which strained beneath the zipper. She ran her fingers over the promising bulge, and he moaned.

She took a deep breath and unfastened his pants, yearning to feel the hard length of him inside her. Grayson reached around her back. He unfastened her bra with effortless finesse, as smooth as all his movements. When he removed it and tossed it to the end of the bed, his gaze raked over her once more, his eyes gleaming with even more intensity.

Aurora should stop this before they went any further. This was wrong.

He exhaled with parted lips. “So beautiful.” His speech was little more than a whisper.

But damn, it felt so good. So right.

Grayson kissed her as he led her into his bedroom and onto his bed. He covered her body with his massive one. As he kissed along her collarbone, he cupped and caressed each breast. As his mouth traveled down, he left her skin tingling with awareness. When he dipped his head lower and circled her nipple with his warm tongue, she released a heavy sigh.

As he continued to taste and touch each breast, her anticipation flared. A sensual craving grew between her legs, where she urgently needed him.

He placed his hand over her stomach, the warmth of his fingers on her skin giving her another sense that she was being claimed—something she’d never deemed possible before now. He slid his hand down over to the top of her pants and unbuttoned them.

“Let me help.” She arched her hips and helped slide them off her legs.

Grayson’s gaze skimmed over her on his bed as she was only left wearing a tiny pair of black panties.

He skimmed his fingers over the edge of them. “How did you know I’d like these?”

She didn’t, but if she was truthful to herself, maybe a part of her knew something might happen with her coming here tonight. After all, she could have just put on her usual choice of cotton ones.

Before she could summon words for an answer, he kissed the skin on her lower belly. Heat curled inside and she squirmed, aching for more.

With each touch of his kiss, her body trembled with need. As if mirroring her desperation, he slid the tiny fabric off her body. The cooler air of the room caressed her bare flesh, drawing her awareness to her nudity.

His hungry gaze descended and his nostrils flared. A primal-sounding growl vibrated from somewhere deep within his chest, rumbling through her with a dangerous, thrilling reminder of his wolfish nature. “I can’t wait to touch all of you. And taste you.”

Neither could she. Just picturing him taking her that way was enough to send a new surge of yearning deep within her core.

He slipped his hand in between her legs and then stroked her flesh. “You’re so wet.” A rumbling groan followed. “I want you so bad, Aurora.”

“Yes, I need you, too.” Her plea ended with a gasp.

“I’ll give you everything you need,” he promised.

She’d never heard his voice like that before, so rough and feral. What a turn on.

He lowered his head and kissed her inner thighs.

She trembled and sucked in a shaky breath. His warm breath tickled her bare skin, tormenting her. She panted, waiting, waiting…

Only when he speared her with a long swipe of his tongue did she exhale. Then Grayson commanded complete control over her body and mind. Her thoughts were muddied, drowned out by pure sensation. He took his sweet, deliberate, tortuous time as he explored her, and the effect on her was dizzying.

He added his hands and played her like she was an instrument he’d practiced on a thousand times. How was he so intuitive to her needs? No one had ever touched her this way, ramping up her desire until she was a hot, frantic mess.

With his skillful ministrations, she was convinced he was staking a claim on her, as strange as that seemed. Yet, she wanted it. Wanted him like she’d never yearned for anyone before.

And she needed more of him, now.

  Grayson

Grayson had fantasized countless times about what it would be like to be with his mate, who in his mind had been a murky mystery until Aurora had first stepped into his office. Since he’d met her, his fantasies had grown far more illicit as he pictured having her in his bed and claiming her as his.

Yet, nothing compared with the all-consuming desire that raged through him now as he tasted her. Her unique essence had to be designed just for him because after having this forbidden taste, he’d never be satiated. He had to have more.

Grayson knew this was wrong, knew too much was at stake, but he needed her like he’d never needed anything before.

Her soft, creamy thighs cradled his head. Her breathing turned more rapid. Her body rose and fell with his rhythmic assault on her senses.

All he wanted to do was satisfy her needs, make her cry out in pleasure with his name on her lips.

Grayson continued to lick her and touch her, responding to her reactions. What made her moan with pleasure or sigh with need was imprinted to his memory. He altered his actions, noting what made her squirm and grasp the sheets, playing with her until she hovered on the precipice before exploding.

  “Please,”
she begged. “Need you…”

He needed her, too, in his life as well as in his bed. And he had to bury himself inside her before he went mad. His cock ached, straining the fabric of his unzipped pants. He visualized the sweet ecstasy of burying himself inside her body, filling her with his seed, marking her with his bite.

This time when she climbed, one hand clutching the sheets and the other in his hair, he didn’t relent. He intensified the pressure on her sensitive bud, sending her soaring. Her entire lower body tensed and rose off the bed.

“Oh, oh Grayson.” She gasped his name before shattering, an explosion of decadent honey on his tongue, and a tightness around his fingers that he ached to have around his cock.

He slid his fingers out. As she rode the quakes, he moved his body over hers. Her expression appeared so soft and relaxed, eyes closed and cheeks flushed.

“Wow,” she whispered and then shuddered beneath him again as an aftershock rippled through her.

“Beautiful,” he murmured. “That was so fuckin’ hot.”

“Wow,” she repeated, blinking her eyes open. “That was amazing.”

After he slid on a condom, he lowered his head to kiss her while he slowly buried his aching shaft in between her legs. Her scent wrapped around him, leaving him throbbing with the need to mark her, to claim her as his.

Do it, his wolf urged. She’s ours.

Grayson’s fangs descended with the overwhelming urge to bite her.

Before he could hide them, Aurora’s eyes widened. She didn’t stop him, though. Instead, she guided him into her wet folds and then clutched at him, as if his fangs had excited her.

Just the tip of him in her wet pussy sent a shudder of sensation rippling through him. If just this tease affected him so, what would it feel like to be fully encased in her body?

Fuck, he wouldn’t wait any longer to find out. He slid another inch inside her, her tight walls slowly yielding. “Are you okay?” he asked.

She released a low exhale with a sigh. “Oh, yesss.” She wrapped her legs around his waist, not letting him pull away.

Never. He pushed in slowly, holding onto her round hips as he buried himself deeper. When he was finally fully inside, he paused, dazed by so much sensation. She didn’t move either. Only the sounds of their heavy breathing filled the air.

Then he drew back an inch, unwilling to pull too far away from her and end this. He pushed back. Slowly, he pushed in and out, his body overcome by the dizzying and blissful desire. The need to pierce the sensitive flesh near her shoulder grew, hammering through him like a compulsion to claim her—a primal mark that would warn all shifters that she was his mate.

But she didn’t even know that.

He could have mentioned it earlier, yet something held him back. She wasn’t a shifter. She could reject him. She could leave.

He had to find a way to make her stay.

Now wasn’t the time to think of it, not when he was sliding in and out of her sweet body. He lifted her hips and hammered into her from this angle until she cried out.

“Let me on top.” She crawled over him after they switched positions.

When she slid her sweet, tight pussy down his shaft, all thoughts melted. She moved up and down with slow movements at first and then ground down harder and faster, captivating him. All his awareness was on this beauty, his mate, and bringing her pleasure. He arched his hips from below, increasing the friction between them.

Her moans grew louder, her grinding more urgent. He gripped her hips. It felt good. Too good. He wouldn’t be able to hold on much longer.

“Come for me, Aurora,” he urged her and thrust harder.

“Yes,” she cried. “Yes.” Her body turned rigid, and she dropped her head back. Her expression turned rapturous, and her skin glistened. She fell forward onto him, crying out his name, and pressing her body against his.

As she climaxed, she squeezed around him with pulses that shot him over the edge. He exploded into the void with her, coming harder than he ever had before. A century must have passed before the final jet of energy blasted out of him.

He wrapped his arms around her body and held his mate in this one perfect moment, never wanting to let her go.

After their raging heartbeats and ragged breaths slowed, they adjusted their position, facing each other on their sides. Grayson ran his fingers along the curves on the side of her body, not wanting to stop touching her yet.

“Your fangs surprised me,” Aurora noted. “Do they always come out when you have sex?”

  “No. Did they scare you?”

She shook her head. “No, they excited me.” Her eyes brightened. “I wonder why it happened this time.” She flashed a sassy grin. “Did I bring out the animal side in you or something?”

How close she was to the truth. Should he admit the reason why?

He rubbed her shoulder in a circular motion. “There’s something I need to tell you.”

Turning to her side, she propped her elbow onto the bed and leaned her head onto her hand. “What is it?”

  “Don’t be frightened,” he said.

Her brows tightened. “Is something wrong?”

“Nothing’s wrong. In fact, it’s right. More incredible than I ever imagined.”

  “I don’t understand,” she said.

He took a deep breath, exhaled, and admitted, “My fangs came out because I felt the need to mark you.”

Her mouth curled into an O. “Mark me?”

His pulse quickened again, and his skin turned hard. “Yes, I think you’re my mate.” No, that was a cop out. He squared his jaw and tried again. “No, I know you’re my mate, Aurora.”

Aurora’s eyes widened, and she stared at him. “Are you sure?”

  “Yes.”

  “How do you know?”

Grayson ran his hand through his hair. “I knew it from the moment I met you. Your scent, the way my wolf reacted to you. Every part of me just knows. And when a wolf knows, he wants to claim his mate with a mark. The mating bite binds them together as one.”

Her lips parted. Several seconds passed before she spoke. “I don’t know how to respond to that, Grayson. I shouldn’t even be here with you, further complicating our situation.”

“You don’t have to say anything. I just wanted you to know.”

When she rolled to the other side, he sensed her unease. He didn’t blame her—what he sprang on her was immense. Still, when he spooned her, she didn’t pull away. That was a good sign. At least, he hadn’t completely freaked her out.

No more contemplating. If they only had one night together, he wasn’t going to ruin it by worrying. The hurdles would still be there tomorrow and the day after that.

For one blissful night, he’d bask in the contentment of finally having his mate in his arms.

  Chapter 9

  Grayson

The next morning, Grayson caressed her shoulder and then kissed it. “Good morning, beautiful.”

Aurora rolled onto her side to face him. “Good morning, Grayson.” She smiled. “Well, we really screwed things up last night, didn’t we?”

He nodded. “We sure did.” As he stroked down her arm, he said, “And I don’t regret a moment of it.” The need to touch and kiss and taste his mate rose like wildfire within, especially since he didn’t know if he’d have the chance to be with her again. He rolled her onto her back and then kissed her neck. “In fact, I’d do it all over again.”

As he kissed down her torso, she laughed. “Grayson, we shouldn’t.” She didn’t make a move to stop him, though.

He moved. “What difference does an orgasm or two matter?”

As he kissed her breasts, she sighed and ran her fingers through his hair.

  “True, but…”

“But what?” He kissed down her belly.

She arched her body and moaned with pleasure. “Never mind.”

Three orgasms later—two for her and one for him—they finally left his bed and ate breakfast beside a p
icture window. He’d brewed coffee and cooked some eggs and bacon. She looked so sexy with her hair mussed up and wearing one of his shirts, which fit like a tent on her.

“Are you heading into the office today?” she asked him.

“I can go in later this morning and spend time with you, if that’s something you’d like.”

Aurora tilted her head. “Did you mean what you said last night? About me being your mate?”

He leaned back in the hardwood chair. “I did.”

She exhaled with a low whoosh. “That adds more fuel to this already fiery pile of complications. We can’t let anyone know I was here.”

Grayson agreed. “Don’t worry. No one will. We drove here in my car. No one is keeping tabs on you. We’ll be safe.”

But would she? If the Sacco pack found out about Aurora sleeping with him...

Well, he just wouldn’t let them know. After all, how much longer would these negotiations take? When she went back to them tomorrow, if they accepted, it would just be a matter of drawing up the paperwork.

  If they accepted.

  They’d be foolish not to.

Aurora watched him. “You look tense, Grayson. What are you thinking about?”

His shoulders sagged. “Just worried about things.”

  “Like what?”

Everything. “I’m hoping that we can settle this soon.” He swallowed. “And then maybe we can talk about us.”

Her eyes widened, and she gazed at him with a wondrous expression. “Oh.” She cracked her knuckles. “That’s another complicated situation.”

  “Why?”

“Because I’m not sure where I’m heading with my life, let alone contemplate a relationship with someone I just met.”

Grayson’s muscles tightened. If she rejected him—the agony would be too much to bear.

“What are you thinking?” he asked.

She sighed. “First of all, when I go back to Salem, I need to tell my aunt that this is my last assignment as a mediator. I already explained why.”

Leaving him. Grayson’s chest tightened. He couldn’t let her go, yet he couldn’t force her to stay. She was a grown woman who could make her own decisions, which was what she was doing now. But still, he had to take a chance.
