A twinge of worry kicked among her happy thoughts like a cloud of dust on the horizon. Marianne had written to her only once since Roxi had left Boston. Her sister had reported that her scheme hadn’t gone exactly according to plan.
Mari’s letter hadn’t included many details and that worried her. It wasn’t what her sister was saying, it was what she wasn’t saying that was worrisome. Roxi wondered what exactly it was that hadn’t gone according to plan.
“What are you thinking about this morning, my beautiful wife?” Roxanne’s skin heated with desire at the sound of her husband’s sleepy voice.
“Just thinking about my sister. She said her plan hadn’t gone exactly as planned and I worry—“
Alex’s soft chuckle hit her low and hard. “I was wondering how she was going to pull that off. I mean, I know you two are supposed to be identical twins, but I could tell the difference in the two of you the moment I laid eyes on your sister.”
Roxi shot a surprised look to her husband. “You could? How? Not many people can tell us apart when we try to fool them. Even our own mother has a hard time telling us apart when we put our minds to fooling her.”
Alex turned in the bed and faced her. His fingers reached over their sleeping daughter to tuck pieces of Roxi’s hair that had slipped from her braid behind her ear. His touch created a slow burn and had her trying to figure out how to get Grace out of their bed without waking her. She turned toward Alex, her eyes caressing his handsome face.
“You keep looking at me like that and I’m gonna have to figure out how to move this little girl up to her own room.” He leaned over Grace’s sleeping form and gave Roxi a soft kiss on her lips. “But to answer your question, you and your sister have a different way about you.”
Roxi couldn’t fathom what Alex could mean. “A different way?”
“Yes, your mannerisms… and the way you speak. Soft. Sweet. Sensuous. Makes a man want things.”
She smiled at her sexy husband. “You are just partial to this twin,” she teased.
“No, there’s a difference between you and your sister. She’s more…direct. Bolder. Even bossy I would say.”
Roxi giggled. “You do know my sister, don’t you?”
“Like I said, I can tell the difference.”
She offered him a cheeky grin. “Now, let’s get back to our previous conversation. You were going to figure out a way to get this little girl out of our bed and into hers without waking her.”
Alex reached out and traced her lips with his finger. She opened her mouth and touched his finger with her tongue. The heat he caused in her body was reflected in his eyes.
“Get going, cowboy. And hurry. I’ll be waiting right here for you when you get back.”

About the Author
ABOUT THIS AUTHOR
Peggy McKenzie was born and raised in Oklahoma. She has been in love with books since as far back as she can remember when her earliest memories are of her summers spent roaming the Ada Public Library. Cool marble floors and polished oak tables transformed the quiet halls into the perfect place to fuel a young girl's imagination.
Fast forward to a few decades later when a move to the romantic southwest of Colorado lit the fire to write once more. Now, she is living her dream in the beautiful mountains surrounded by Ponderosa pines in her home she shares with her husband, Jim, and their three fur babies, Augustus McCray (Gus), Miki (Mickie) and Maddie.
Please follow Peggy on her journey of writing happy endings and second chances one story at a time. She is always excited to hear from her readers. Email her at [email protected]. Visit her website for updated news and releases.
