She ruthlessly ignored the clenching of her heart as his soft plea echoed in her ears. She climbed into the car and slammed the door shut, then gripped the steering wheel tightly as she watched his shoulders slump in defeat. He turned and began to walk away.
Her heart thumped painfully as she squeezed her eyes shut.
‘Don’t do it Scarlett…’ she muttered, ‘don’t do it…’ she shook her head, ‘don’t do it…’
She opened her eyes and they locked on Sam as he walked slowly away.
‘You’re so stupid Scarlett,’ she whispered to herself angrily.
Her fingers tapped agitatedly against the wheel as she watched his forlorn figure walking slowly down the filthy alley, so alone.
She swore for several long seconds before leaning out of the broken window.
‘SAM!’ she yelled as he turned to look at her, ‘GET IN THE DAMN CAR!’
