Second Chances Page 23

by Kitty Berry

Raina and I struggle over where to live. We know wherever we go, we’ll go together. The only way it’ll be home is for us to be together. Deciding on the East or West Coast wasn’t easy. Raina’s career opportunities are greater on the West Coast, but my job and our friends are on the East. We’re torn until Nix steps in and makes the decision for us, his dream of coming to the States to direct and produce a movie coming to fruition. He hires Raina to be the lead. With the casting and filming occurring in New York, Raina agrees to move in with me.

Nix will arrive soon to find a place of his own, meet with the team for his movie, and start casting the remaining characters. Raina and I are looking forward to having him close by, but I’m apprehensive. That night in the London club was fun, but I have no plans on sharing Raina with him ever again. I know he usually likes to sleep with his leading ladies, but this time, he’s going to have to find someone else to share his bed. Raina is all mine!

Thomas Wolfe might have been right when he famously wrote, “You can’t go…back home to the father you have lost and have been looking for…” I still miss my father each day; wish I could see him one last time. But Thomas Wolfe was wrong when he said, “You can’t go back home to your family, back home to your childhood, back home to romantic love, back home to a young man's dreams of glory and of fame…back home to someone who can help you, save you, ease the burden for you…”

I know he was wrong because I just did that very thing.
